His videos really started going down the toilet once he made them longer than 10 minutes imo, so no argument there.

I still think Vogt-Roberts taking the time to do a point by point rebuttal to something as largely irrelevant as CinemaSins makes him look like a thin skinned killjoy who can't take criticism. Rightly or wrongly, it's the perception it gives off. Better to just not respond.

Agreed. Cinemasins shouldn't be worth the time to respond to.

I'm fine with Vogt-Roberts challenging CinmaSins, because I always feel that channel is problematic to moviegoers. It just gives people ammo to become more cynical and more obnoxious when discussing movies.

Say what you want about HISHE, but they know how to do it right and make it entertaining.

I haven't seen the video but I don't think director should complain about critisisms like this. Also the movie wasn't very good. I'm a huge King Kong fan but I didn't like the movie at all. I have no desire to watch it again anytime soon.

Yeah you aren't going to see Christopher Nolan posting on Twitter about a CinemaSins for Interstellar or what have you.

I agree with the director. A lot of the "criticisms" are objectively genuinely nonsensical. Some purposely nonsensical for humor, and Cinemasins videos have become absurdly long. They want to claim their videos are intended to be humorous, but some of the criticisms are sincere while others are just poor attempts at humor and at 20+ minutes the videos aren't jokes or humorous. They come across like a failed comedian trying to beat a dead horse with another dead horse. Their videos could be worthwhile if they would cut them to around 5 minutes, cut out 90% of the BS criticisms and weak humor, and work on being funnier and more intelligent.

But the director should have just ignored them.

Agreed. Between this and his ridiculous Wonder Woman tweet I'm thinking he is not the sharpest tool in the shed.

Does he even know Twitter and CinemaSins exist? :woot:

No, Nolan doesn't register the trivial and superfluous things like Twitter or subtitles for Tom Hardy. Kinda like Dr. Manhattan. He is above that.

I think Vogt-Robert's best point was about how as a comedian/artist you have to kill your babies sometimes. Do the people behind CS really think every joke deserves to be there?

Watched it last night and enjoyed it well enough. I agree that the new creatures should have stayed on screen more, esp the water buffalo. The plot is contrived af but I liked how they set up the earth being infested with giant monsters

Those videos have become so long and boring and irrelevant that the director going on a huge rant about it just makes him look whiny. Like he even posted screenshots from their Looper video critiquing it point by point . Like, really bruh?

I would have never heard of those if it wasnt for his outburst. People should just ignore those as well as those youtube critics. Just because any idiot can record videos and 'critique' movies doesnt mean they should

Didn't he also go on a tirade about Trump a few months back? He seems like a guy who gets peeved off easily.

I wouldn't say that. Just seems like he gets pissed off a little easily at times.

Besides the point by point, he very rightly broke down how and why their entire format it humorless and literally ignorant of film itself. It doesn't really work as humor or criticism and has only contributed some really stupid habits to the way geek culture approaches film.

Its a hugely popular youtube channel unfortunately.
