Leatherface (2016): A prequel to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Funnily enough the only TCM film I actually like is the 2003 remake. I think the original us vastly overrated and the series as a whole has a dreadful continuity. I didn't like the last prequel but at least the continuity was coherent.

I appreciate the original for what it is, but I agree. I hated the majority of the soon to be victims, especially the wheelchair guy. And it really drags on, and not even in terms of setting up anything.

Yeah, watched the 2003 movie last night. It's actually pretty solid.

I disagree. The original TCM is only 80 minutes long, it goes by fairly quick. To be honest, I enjoy all of the series save for part four considering Leatherface does nothing but scream throughout all of it. :o But even despite its obvious continuity issues, I find the rest of the series enjoyable. Especially two & its comedic approach to the family.

As for this upcoming prequel, the more & more I think about it the more I really hope that it's good & the total opposite of what TCM 3D was. Leatherface is a character that deserves better than what we've seen of his films thus far.

Ideally, though, I just wish Lionsgate would've started fresh like Platinum Dunes did instead of making a sequel & then prequel to the original. I love the original but it's time to move beyond it into new territory.

TCM 3D was sooooo bad. :csad:
You know it's bad when TCM The Next Generation is a better movie.

TCM 3D is bad, no doubt, but it's still better than The Next Generation, definitely. The latter had Leatherface screaming for the entirety of the film while doing nothing of relevance. At least Dan Yeager gave a good performance as Leatherface & stayed largely true to what he should be.

Both are bad but if I had to pick, I'd go with TCM 3D. It's the lesser of two evils.

Not at all. TCM 3D couldn't decide what time frame it wanted to be in. Then it had the whole sibling bond to save boring Daddario, and the whole movie itself was too clean and polished; nothing looked lived in or grungy, or horror-esque.

I liked the remake, I'll admit, but I didn't lie the prequel to the remake, nor Texas Chainsaw. They were bad. This'll probably be bad.

Oddly, I've not seen Leatherface - TCM3 or TCM4. Yet. Heh.

Wait... is this a prequel to the prequel? (The Beginning) They're doing another prequel?

It's baffling that they're doing a movie about young Leatherface. He's suppose to be this force of hick nature. No one cares about two hours of his upbringing.

The Next Generation had the problem of trying to be too "meta" in its approach, in addition to making the family basically be part of an evil cult. The filmmakers tried to take the original & put their own "twist" on it but failed more than miserably. The film is an incoherent mess that doesn't even know what it's trying to present to the audience.

I do agree with pretty much all of what you said about TCM 3D (except about Daddario, I like her) but TNG, on every level, is the worst of the two for me. It literally fails on every filmmaking aspect imaginable. TCM 3D was at least entertaining, even as nonsensical as the story was.

But, that's what happens when you let Adam Marcus write the script. You'd think they would've learned from letting him write and direct Jason Goes to Hell. :o

No. When Lionsgate acquired the rights & made Texas Chainsaw 3D, they explicitly made it a sequel to the original. So this prequel is a prequel to the original, not a prequel to the prequel that was made by Platinum Dunes.

So, as of now, we're back within the continuity of the original series. Instead of starting fresh, some idiot(s) decided trying to continue after the original was the best idea.

I'm reserving judgement till I see a trailer but 3D was just a disaster and **** McGee didn't help.

this is where you lost me..

in addition to Tobe Hooper’s original, three sequels, a remake, a prequel to the remake and a modern-day “direct sequel.”

Technically, TCM 2 is the only sequel that acts like one (largely because Hooper was behind it) but TCM 3 & 4, like TCM 3D, are meant to be "direct sequels" that ignore everything else.

TCM 3D didn't do anything new by ignoring everything & continuing after the original. Which makes you wonder just how much the Lionsgate execs are actually paying attention.

(spoiler) The answer is not very much.

How many prequels does Leatherface need

If they were smart he wouldn't have any.

The first one I kind of understand, though. They painted themselves into a corner...in the remake Leatherface got his arm hacked off. They desperately wanted to do a sequel but realized the only way to get around that fact would be doing a prequel.

This new one, though....just seems unnecessary in every sense of the word. Unless we get the finished product & it's something truly mind blowing, everyone else is going to feel exactly the same.

They should have given him a meat hook for an arm! Bwahaha...

Anyway, here's a new still from Leatherface. Still no release date or trailer yet.

Most of the TCM films have been garbage anyway. Continuity is all over the shop.

Another origin that is sounding lame

Hes a psycho cannibal , torture inducing , chainsaw wielding nut.
Do we always have to know what trauma made them turn lunatic?
