Action-Adventure Legendary/Capcom developing Street Fighter film

Only way Koji gets blamed for leading a bad movie is if he is also bad in it. Rami Malek won an Oscar for a terrible film.

If I'm Andrew Koji, I'd avoid a role like this after Snake-Eyes: GI Joe Origins. He risks being typecast. Plus, he already starred in Warrior. He should be looking for more roles like Bullet Train.

Just saying if the movie turns out bad, and he's the lead, it's going to be partially put on his shoulders.
Hopefully the film’s decent. The signs are good that these filmmakers are very passionate about the source material and doing way more research than anyone could have asked unlike most who have been in charge of things like this. Also their parody execution without a proper budget was already very entertaining so hopefully they can bring that energy to a full scale production.

Speaking of SF...the naming of some characters is a little bit chaos between here in Japan and in US.
So I am not sure which Vega are you referring to here.lol

For example...
Vega (the final boss) in Japan is M.Bison in US.
M.Bison (the boxer) in Japan is Balrog in US.
Balrog (the matador) in Japan is Vega in US.
Gouki in Japan is Akuma in US.

I'd like really want to know the history behind this name swapping. Hahaha.

My understanding is it went somewhat like this:

-M.Bison (the boxer) in Japan, was clearly a play on the real boxer Mike Tyson (M.Tyson), which if used in the US, could lead to rights infringement.
-At the same time, the name Vega in the West, was somewhat more associated with a Latin name, in particular the character Zorro, a Spanish, Masked, Bladed/Sword fighter, (eccentric alter ego) called de la Vega. So the name and theme fit the Spanish, Masked, Bladed, character better.
Freeing up the name Balrog (the Matador in Japan) now for the Boxer.
-And M.Bison (the Boxer's name in Japan) now freed up for the final Boss. The name Bison and look somewhat invoking a large, powerful, broad shouldered bovine.

Edit: apologies for the necro-thread, and anyone anticipating news, came up in a search and didn't check the date.
No idea what's up with the movie? :funny:
But they really need to stop trying to dilute (tone down) who and what they are, and embrace these characters with all their over-the-top eccentricities, looks and cliches.
And drop them into a story that can showcase them at their outrageous fighting best.

I did have a feeling this would happen due to Talk 2 Me and Bring Her Back.

I’ve said before that this is very unlikely to happen but I’d love to see Joey Ansah and Christian Howard to direct, loved SF: Assassins Fist, and was bummed they didn’t make their World Warrior series!

Christian and Mike were posting a lot about Assassin’s Fist recently. I thought for a second they were working on something new for it. I’d lose it if that team came back.

Oh, yeah! I forgot that that the 10 year anniversary for AF just happened a few weeks ago.

They just know how to nail the tone with action, drama, humour, and embracing everything from the games!

Would love Mike and Christian to return as Ryu and Ken, but they might be a bit old now.

Rereading the article, and it sounds like there were more than issues with scheduling, which sucks!
Scheduling is partly to blame, according to sources. Legendary and Capcom were hoping to begin sooner than later.

Obviously, there must have been creative differences as well over the direction of the film.

Doesn't surprise me with a property like this. It really is a miracle that Assassin's Fist exists at all.

I remember Joey and Christian faced similar problems when trying to get WW off the ground disagreeing with the studios, and trying to compromise with them.

Would they even want to do this is a good question, after being involved with WW for about 6 years before it shelved?

Oh boy. Next they’re gonna talk about the Street Fighter cinematic universe.

Hopefully they keep the budget quite tight. This doesn't need to cost $150 million or more. Give the movie a chance to make a profit.

I meeeeeeean, with the SF lore you got Final Fight, Rival Schools and maybe even Darkstalkers connected with it.

It could work.

Here’s a question: Which game should they adapt? I’d go with II or take inspiration from the Alpha series.

Oh it absolutely could. But announcing release dates with no director in place just feels like putting the cart before the horse. The cinematic universe talk typically follows.

And they don’t even have a writer either! Rackaracka posted a pic of their script on instagram, but they’re not directing anymore.

Gonna have to get moving on both fronts soon.
