Les Miserables: Even the thread will make you cry

hmm, I wonder who her "friends" are going to be that night.

Maybe cast members from Les Mis? But then why just bill it as an Anne Hathaway event since the likes of Hugh Jackman would bring great publicity. I'm guessing it can't be him, but could easily be some of the less well known stars of Les Mis.

Hugh is in Australia filming "The Wolverine". Russell is around, as he's filming "Noah" on Long Island. As a matter of fact, he's doing a show with his band at the Gramercy Theater on Oct. 13 and Samantha Barks is joining him. Aaron Tveit is a New Yorker so who knows!

There isn't a single song/movie musical in the world that simply uses raw untouched vocals and Les Miz was never going to be the first.

Wrong. "At long last love" did all the singing live, and as they didn't have such recording technology as we now have in Les Miserables, they couldn't auto-tune the singing. The movie sucked, because they didn't make anything else out of live singing than just bad vocals.

There are a million ways to tweak vocals besides auto tune.

And those means have pretty much always existed.

Nope, but I'm wondering if there's going to be one. Way back when Crowe was asked that question in a tweet, and he responded something like "I don't understand your question, the movie IS the soundtrack."

They'd be crazy not to release one. I always thought the fan was asking if there was going to be a soundtrack separate from the live singing being done in the movie.

The soundtrack will be released a week before the film. That's kind of the standard.

And since there are so many songs, it'll probably be like Rent and Dreamgirls. A single disc album with all the most popular songs, and then a 2 (or in this case, 3) disc album with the entire score.

Well the question I want to know is whether the soundtrack will be the live score lifted from the movie or whether the actors will go back into the studio to record one. For some musicals, you get the live performance, but also a studio album.

I wish I lived in New York. :(

I'm becoming increasingly comfortable going to musical performances on my own. I'm one botched suicide attempt away from becoming the old man from Drowsy Chaperone.

As far as I know they never went into a studio. Filming ending in June and Hugh at least went right to a vacation and then down to Australia for Wolverine filming. Filming started in March - Hugh's Broadway show ended in December and Russell was filming something else right into February I think.

Just watched 25th anniversary's "Beggars at the feast". Jenny Galloway is superb... but I'm ridiculously excited about HBC's Madame Thenardier. It's a shame that we haven't seen a second of her. Now that we've seen at least something from almost every major song...

if not the new trailer itself, a Word of it shall be near now! Surely no more than two weeks, I think. But I'm worried we might again NOT see anything of HBC. It's hard to fit Thenardiers in the trailer, I'm afraid. Making a trailer of a fully sung-through musical is no easy task, music must be mixed ... and they haven't even recorded half of it (the real orchestra is completely missing). But I'm sure the trailer won't be just awesome but something really different and special (all that mysterious recording and directing back in august...) .

Don't be surprised if its

- Joseph Gordon levitt

- bale and jackman singing a duet

;)

I admit I teared up at Red & Black, one of my favorite songs. Sounds wonderful, imagine the whole thing with the orchestra!

Aaronjolras! :hrt:
Didn't he sound wonderful from that short snippet? Too bad we couldn't hear the end of Hugh's "Who Am I?"!

How will we make it through this movie? I just hope the expectations aren't too high...

"And so Javert.." changed to "And so Your Honor". :)

Yes, that was reported by some extras. Javert isn't in the courtroom. Apparently JVJ speaks to the judge after that and then leaves for the hospital (I think).

Kind of kills the rhythm, due to "Your Honor" having more syllables than "Javert", but it's an understandable change.

Yeah, I hope it doesn't bother me. :)

EDIT: Actually, watching it again, they seem to account for the rhythm by adding a break after You Honor. It works.
