Let's Make The Marijuana Thread Again!

Gotta have someone to put in jail when people can't be arrested for marijuana possession anymore, right Republicans?

Republican congressman threatens DC mayor with jail time over legalization, DC mayor refuses to back down:

It's truly comforting to know that upholding the will of the people is against the law and can earn you jail time. Thanks, Congressman Dickhole.

I said a few years ago that it would probably be another 30 years before marijuana is legalized at a federal level, but I'm starting to think it'll be coming a bit sooner than that.
Me being in Alabama means I'll probably wait longer than most people, but it's still cool seeing the country turning quicker than I expected.

Definitely. It's scheduling has been challenged recently, from Feb 12th:

"Yesterday in Sacramento a federal judge heard closing arguments in a motion challenging the constitutionality of cannabis’ Schedule I classification.

The Judge is anticipated to rule on defense’s motion within 30 days."

http://blog.norml.org/2015/02/12/fe...onal-challenge-to-cannabis-schedule-i-status/

The dominoes are falling, it'll only gather momentum. I think there's about 9 more US states putting forward bills between now through 2016. Jamaica just decriminalized it recreationally & legalized Medical. A Netherlands party are pushing for a full legal & regulated system.

Me being in Alabama means I'll probably wait longer than most people, but it's still cool seeing the country turning quicker than I expected.

Me being in Ireland means I'll probably be waiting even longer than you.:csad:

Why would Ireland take longer than Alabama?

Are the Irish mostly anti-cannabis?

I think there's talk that if and when California legalizes along with the few other states that are up in 2016 that the federal government may start looking into decriminalizing across the country. The minute it becomes legal here in California it becomes a trillion dollar industry and the federal government can't ignore that.

Here's my thing, what's the point of legalizing if jobs are still going to drug test? I'd love to have a smoke when off work, but if a random test comes along it won't matter for us people who get random testing. Just a stupid world we live in.

Yeah, Ireland's a very conservative country. I think a recent poll had it at about 30-35% of people in favour of legalisation (which increased from several years previous, so it's going in the right direction albeit slowly).

The main political parties have no intention what-so-ever of legalising. A little over a year ago an Independent politician (Luke "Ming" Flanagan) introduced a bill to legalise but it was voted down 111 to 8.

I think things will change a little quicker now though, more & more people from all demographics are standing up & questioning the Government and seeing through the political BS in general. Plus, like the article I posted above, the younger generations here are just more informed & open minded in general.

The point is justice, if I can be corny for a moment. It's the right thing to do. There's a whole lot more to this issue than just some people who want to get high without any hassle.

hey guys, so I know I shouldn't be talking too much about my personal life here, but I'm fairly comfortable with the place I've made for myself here on the SHH! community, and just wanna get some stuff off my chest.

so I'm still unemployed, and went over 2 weeks sober. today, the movie 'it's complicated' was on TV, and there were scenes where they were talking about and smoking pot, and my mom was watching it in such a hmph/scoffing way. and I was like 'ma! you still think marijuana is this this horrible terrible thing even after everything I explained to you!' and she goes '...yes.'

that just really pissed me off, and made me want to just break my 2 week+ streak, so today/tonight, I did. but now again I'm sitting here thinking, what did I do - there's so much more effort I should be putting forth with the time I have in this point of my life right now

coupled with a few more stupidass mistakes I made tonight, it's got me feeling really down. because i'll always have this guilt of knowing - that my parents knew I was on it, they don't know I still like it, and that my use of/addiction to it was a major factor in taking so long to graduate/bad grades. but that's also because I lost control and fed into my depression. I don't want to continue getting too personal because it's just not appropriate and also I'm not looking for sympathy. it's just... I get so frustrated with myself, and with life. and things happen. I just wish that in whatever the length of my lifespan will be that I can put some genuine happiness into it.

now on a slightly more interesting note, the other day the last time I smoked and then went to pray before tonight, I noticed on my jarnamaaz (prayer rug) that there were these embroideries that looked like pot leaves! they were even green!

So weird, Ireland with the green theme and lush landscape seems perfect for legal ganja.

Hawaii is another place and it could happen in under 5 years for reelz.

If We Want to Stop Weed-Related Murders, We Should Legalize Weed

zto3oa626aqncijbsyg6.jpg

Murders are up in New York. Why? According to NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton, it's because of drug dealers getting violent over "marijuana, a seemingly innocent drug that is being legalized around the country." That's all the more reason to legalize it here in New York, too.

Bratton's remarks—delivered at a news conference in response to a 2015 homicide rate that is 20% higher than that of the same period last year—are being widely reported as a refutation of the idea that that this "seemingly innocent" drug is as innocent as it seems. Sixty percent of this year's drug-related killings involved weed, according to the commissioner.

But let's look at what Bratton and other NYPD brass actually said.

"The seemingly innocent drug that's been legalized around the country," he said. "In this city, people are killing each other over marijuana more so than anything that we had to deal with an 80s and 90s with heroin and cocaine."

"It is ironic that in a city which is a transfer point for huge amounts of drugs . . . heroin, cocaine, hallucinogens, that one drug [that] is actually the causal factor in so much of our shootings and murder is marijuana," Bratton said. "We just see marijuana everywhere when we make these arrests, and get the guns off the street."

"These are all ripoffs," Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said. "These are not turf battles. These are ripoffs of marijuana dealers, robberies...We lost a police officer, detective Pete Figowski, a couple years ago. He was responding to a marijuana ripoff."

Unless you subscribe to the Reefer Madness-era idea that pot turns otherwise peaceful people into raging, violent animals, Bratton's and Boyce's remarks aren't indictments of weed itself; they're indictments of weed prohibition. These aren't stories of overdoses or men driven driven to madness by a bong rip; they're the direct consequences of a culture that sends people to jail for pot. Whether he meant to or not, the commissioner of the NYPD just made a pretty compelling case for ending prohibition.

If we want to end weed-related violence in New York, we have a really simple means of doing so: legalizing it. How many of the city's beer distributors have been murdered this year?

Just legalize it already, jeez

DEA warns of stoned rabbits if Utah passes medical marijuana

Utah is considering a bill that would allow patients with certain debilitating conditions to be treated with edible forms of marijuana. If the bill passes, the state's wildlife may "cultivate a taste" for the plant, lose their fear of humans, and basically be high all the time. That's according to testimony presented to a Utah Senate panel (time stamp 58:00) last week by an agent of the Drug Enforcement Administration.

"I deal in facts. I deal in science," said special agent Matt Fairbanks, who's been working in the state for a decade. He is member of the "marijuana eradication" team in Utah. Some of his colleagues in Georgia recently achieved notoriety by raiding a retiree's garden and seizing a number of okra plants.

Fairbanks spoke of his time eliminating back-country marijuana grows in the Utah mountains, specifically the environmental costs associated with large-scale weed cultivation on public land: "Personally, I have seen entire mountainsides subjected to pesticides, harmful chemicals, deforestation and erosion," he said. "The ramifications to the flora, the animal life, the contaminated water, are still unknown."

Fairbanks said that at some illegal marijuana grow sites he saw "rabbits that had cultivated a taste for the marijuana. ..." He continued: "One of them refused to leave us, and we took all the marijuana around him, but his natural instincts to run were somehow gone."

Does anyone have a problem with requesting a merger of this and the Legalization thread? Having two threads with the same articles crossposted seems redundant. Maybe change the title to 'The Cannabis Reform and Discussion thread'?

I suggest that last because some advocates feel the term marijuana has too many negative connotations and prefer the scientific term, although personally I don't mind either one. I believe it's been mentioned by a few other posters here as well.

ohhh man, HAHA

this isn't a joke article is it?

yeah, it's been brought up before but I've stated that the reason I named the title as such because I wanted it to coincide with the alcohol thread.

I didn't want this thread to be just for marijuana related news stuff, although that is of course one big factor, but I don't want the thread limited to that, and it hasn't been. It's also a place for us to just chill out, relax, talk about our seshes, and anything that's been going on. I've done that.

but the legalization thread is much more specific. that is the thread dedicated for the (mostly positive) political agenda of un-vilifying, un-demonizing of this drug.

Girl Scout Cookies, or California's Most Notorious Strain of Cannabis

php6ancsduy5s49kfxxn.jpg

I first heard of Girl Scout Cookies a few years ago, shortly after I got my prescription for cannabis in California. I went into my local dispensary and asked for whatever buds they had that smelled the nicest. "Have you tried Girl Scout Cookies?" the woman behind the counter asked. "It's famous."

I had not. So she took a bell-shaped jar from underneath the counter, full of plump buds covered in curly orange hairs. Then she lifted the suction lid. The scent that drifted out was delicious — flowery, piney, sweet. The strain is named Girl Scout Cookies partly because of its distinctive, pleasant aroma. Some say it smells like candy, but I think it's more like a mild sandalwood incense. The point is, it's a hybrid that smells delightful — unlike some strains that are unmistakably cheesy or skunky. And the flavor is good too, whether you vape or just roll it up as a joint.

The origins of Girl Scout Cookies are as hazy as you'll feel after just a few hits. Some say it's a cross between pure South African sativa Durban Poison and the west coast sativa-like hybrid OG Kush. Others say there's a bit of a Florida strain in there called F1. And still others say it has famous indica Granddaddy Purple in the mix. Whatever is in there with the Durban Poison and OG Kush, there's no doubt that Girl Scout Cookies deliver a bright, cerebral sativa high. It will definitely turn you into a giggle monster or philosopher, depending on your predilections, but it won't put you to sleep.

What everybody agrees on is its strength. It's got about 20% THC, and .5% CBD. That THC percentage is terrifically high for any marijuana strain, and is part of what has earned Girl Scout Cookies its slightly naughty reputation.

At one point, when I joined a new dispensary, I was told that the owners had decided to stop carrying Girl Scout Cookies for a while. They thought it was just too strong, and didn't have a clear therapeutic use. I got the feeling they thought it was the Everclear of pot. But it's so popular that they had to start selling it again. Also, I would like to point out that it is genuinely helpful for my RSIs. No, I'm not kidding — I actually do have a prescription for a reason.

Girl Scout Cookies is such a famous strain that it's spawned a lot of copycats. There are definitely fake GSC strains running around, as well as legit related phenotypes like Thin Mint and Platinum Cookies.

Though I would not recommend GSC for marijuana newbies, I think it's a great choice for a more seasoned afficionado. Obviously you'll want to take a little bit less than you are used to, unless you want to feel blotto and hyper at the same time (sometimes fun, especially if you are hiking on really safe, unchallenging trails or picnicking with friends). But I will always love GSC simply for that lovely scent and flavor. That's what matters most to me — the aesthetic experience of the flowery smoke wafting down my throat.

So if you want your marijuana to taste and smell as good as it feels, try Girl Scout Cookies. Just a hit or two at first, then wait for the effects. Go slowly. And have fun.

Has anyone had a chance to try this? It sounds delightful. Makes me wish I could still partake
