Let's Make The Marijuana Thread Again!

I stopped smoking almost a month ago now. The original intent was so I can pass a potential drug test (looking for a higher paying job) but after 3 days without it, I'm just going to stay off of it indefinitely. I don't miss it at all and I infact feel much better and more motivated. Pot doesn't do my ADD any favors and I've been depressed lately, and it's screamingly obvious now that using something that turns me into an attention span-less slug was only making me even more depressed. Later weed. I like actually having a clean house and an attention span that allows me to read a book more than I like being high.

For me cannabis isn't just about laying on the couch and watching cartoons.

For me, it improves sensation, creativity, appreciation, and introspection.

But if it turns someone into a brain dead zombie then I could understand them choosing another vice instead.

I find I clean better when I'm stoned. And I find it makes me want to do things like pick up my guitar, or discover music I've never heard before. I'm also more social when smoking than I am drinking. It just depends on the person I guess.

I did cut back quite a bit the last 2 weeks, saving up. I'm not going to indulge myself until I have achieved my next goal.

good for you, man. it takes a lot from someone to give up a substance and go on life without it.

For me personally I think one day I'll give up the thought of it completely. But now while I'm still relatively young, I want this to be a vice for me on my down time much in the same way alcohol is for the average man (I don't drink alcohol). It's just so annoying how the law is with marijuana.

It used to do those exact things for me too. Until it didn't anymore. Maybe it will again one day, but that day is far off in the future, and I don't think I'll ever go back to being a daily user again. My house is clean, I'm actively looking for new work now instead of procrastinating, I'm eating healthier, and I've lost weight.

If you smoke too much too often that's what tends to happen. For the most part you get lazy, you can get more anxious because it increases your heart rate, it messes with your memory and attention span, and it can lead you gaining weight. Moderation is key.

Too much of anything can be bad. That's why I don't get more than an 8th a month.

I was definitely smoking too much. I tried to go for moderation, but it wasn't happening. Depression doesn't lend itself well to moderation. It's gotta be zero for me.

Moderation doesn't matter when it comes to a drug test anyway.

Well if you can't handle your responsibilities because of cannabis, alcohol, or whatever then it's time to quit.

But people who can use cannabis, alcohol, etc responsibly should be allowed by the government to do so.

Boy ya'll are quick to being defensive. I'm not condemning weed. I'm condemning my own use of it because it doesn't work for me anymore and I wanted to share as much in the weed thread. I'm still a million percent in favor of legalization. Just want to clear that up right now.

Calm down. He didn't say anything like that. Smoking a lot of weed can lead to mental and psychological issues. None that are too serious or damaging, but they still need to be kept in check.

This thread certainly does get way too defensive when it comes to people pointing out the negative effects of cannabis. It's not a perfect. There are side effects to constant long term use. It may not be as damaging as alcohol or tobaco, but there are side effects. Just pointing out the side effects does not equal "I don't want this to be legalized".

Heh. I love that cannabis memes are being posted.

Here's something that's also relevant to the conversation.

Yeah, I can tell that the defense is quick in this thread, but I only go that route when people try to say that it's right for being illegal. Marijuana definitely is not benign, but alcohol is moreso. So anyone saying marihuana should stay illegal, by that logic, should also be saying alcohol should be illegalized.

Moviedoors, I see where you're coming from and I wish you te best. Me on the other hand, while I haven't been smoking like I used to, really want to. I want that vice, the ability to use this substance without having to worry about the law just like those who drink alcohol don't have to. And then one day I will give it up for good as well.

Not surprising when you have worthless ****posts by the likes of shadowboxer and celticwhatever all the time. Does the alcohol thread have self-righteous goobers coming in every day acting superior and pronouncing judgement on everyone?

How am I being defensive?

He said he was getting lazy and not getting things done because of weed.

Then I made a distinction between people who smoke who can take care of their responsibilities.

I've noticed a couple of SOB stories about cannabis lately and wanted to balance things out since there are plenty of people who would use those stories to become anti-legalization.

This is a pro-cannabis thread. Any anti-cannabis rhetoric will be countered with an opposing view.

Unless what I said was inaccurate there really shouldn't be a problem with saying "yeah weed is harmful in that way but helpful in this way".

I doubt it. Probably a bunch a people laughing and joking about how awesome booze is. Nobody complaining about abusive alcoholics or the 80,000 Americans who die from alcohol every year.

And unlike booze there's a real struggle for cannabis legalization.

Support for legalization has dropped from 55% to 51%.

So yeah, people who very much want legalization might not let every complaint about cannabis go unanswered on the only pro-cannabis thread on the hype.

I was simply sharing my personal experience and struggles, mentioned nothing about my stance on its legality, and you had to rush in and make sure everyone knows that alcohol is worse and prohibition is terrible and point out that it was all my fault (which I had already admitted).

And I didn't realize this was exclusively the "pro" marijuana thread. I'm sorry it threatens you so much that I (me, personally) no longer have a good experience with it, but I thought this would be a safe place to share such a story. Guess not.

I really think this escalated that quickly. It does not seem like Decoy was going after you at all. He was just making a general statement.

Thank you for this. I remember being in your shoes too. I would stop for work reasons and while my fiance' was pregnant, but I really wanted to go back. I couldn't force it. That's just gone now. It'll come when it comes, dude.

Yeah, but this thread can't go a page without everyone being reminded that alcohol is worse. The point has been made. We get it. It's becoming a cudgel at this point.

I support legalizing marijuana and people's right to smoke it, but as soon as someone's smoking impacts my life then I gotta speak up. I hate the smell of pot so ****ing much. It's my least favorite odor. My upstairs neighbors just moved in (it's two college dudes) and they smoke so much in their apartment that it comes through the vents and stinks up my whole place. Again, I'm totally for it's legalization, I just don't want to ever have to smell that hideous skunk fart of a smell.

Isn't that the case with every behavior ever?

Except for the ones vehemently sanctioned by society, then it's seen as deviant to have a bad word to say about it. Alcohol is sanctioned by society and weed is growing to the same levels of acceptability slowly, but talking about how it affects you will get you branded a buzzkill by enthusiastic alcohol users, and weed users like we've seen by some reactions in this thread.

If you talk about someone inhaling petrol fumes and running amok 9/10 people will agree it's wholly unacceptable. If you complain about somebody getting hammered or stoned out of their minds and inconveniencing you probably 3/10 people will sympathise.

In society these days liberty > consideration.
