I'm not against smoking weed, eating or any other kind of marijuana activities someone might want to do. I'm against my having to smell it. That's all. If somebody wants to smoke like a chimney I don't care. I only get annoyed when I can smell it in my own home.

Thank you for this. I remember being in your shoes too. I would stop for work reasons and while my fiance' was pregnant, but I really wanted to go back. I couldn't force it. That's just gone now. It'll come when it comes, dude.

with the tone of your post, I'm guessing perhaps you are a few years older than me as well, in a different stage of life. i don't what kind of a person i'll be by then, but hopeufully by then I'll be on an occasional stance with it. i definitely do want to give it up completely at some point.

Yeah, but this thread can't go a page without everyone being reminded that alcohol is worse. The point has been made. We get it. It's becoming a cudgel at this point.

to be fair, most recently this thread spiraled down a bad path when someone mentioned in a sarcastic way how everyone pro-bud touts it as harmless when someone was killed in a car crash because of it. the fact of the matter is, such horrific things occur literally all the time with alcohol - yet, it impairs you much worse behind the wheel AND it is legal. but no one is pushing for it to become illegal.

then after that I quoted a banned user trying to make another point which began another argument, and that was my fault. that was a question I wanted to ask that poster but he's gone.

I support legalizing marijuana and people's right to smoke it, but as soon as someone's smoking impacts my life then I gotta speak up. I hate the smell of pot so ****ing much. It's my least favorite odor. My upstairs neighbors just moved in (it's two college dudes) and they smoke so much in their apartment that it comes through the vents and stinks up my whole place. Again, I'm totally for it's legalization, I just don't want to ever have to smell that hideous skunk fart of a smell.

Except for the ones vehemently sanctioned by society, then it's seen as deviant to have a bad word to say about it. Alcohol is sanctioned by society and weed is growing to the same levels of acceptability slowly, but talking about how it affects you will get you branded a buzzkill by enthusiastic alcohol users, and weed users like we've seen by some reactions in this thread.

If you talk about someone inhaling petrol fumes and running amok 9/10 people will agree it's wholly unacceptable. If you complain about somebody getting hammered or stoned out of their minds and inconveniencing you probably 3/10 people will sympathise.
In society these days liberty > consideration.

Alcohol (and tobacco) vs cannabis is a massive double standard. That point should be mentioned frequently.

The pro-weed rhetoric is as tiresome. I also find it amusing that people get as vehement about a trivial pastime as they do about whether or not abortion or gay marriage are legal. You'd swear some people needed it to get by.

I don't condoning personally attacking others unless they've insulted the other personally, but I respect the vehemence MD123 is about its current (il)legal state.

In this thread it's going into overdrive though, and it's exaggerated. Marijuana is touted as a cure-all while alcohol kills everyone whose lips it touches.

as I've stated myself, marijuana definitely is not benign, but it is definitely not as dangerous as the way it is supposed to be perceived given its illegality. on that such spectrum, alcohol is more dangerous but it is legal. and every single moment that the double standard is a reality, it can be called out in my opinion. if you're tired of hearing it, that's how tired marijuana users are of having to be able to use their drug of choice in a forced-elusive manner because it is not permitted in society.

That Cannabis is safer than both alcohol and commercial tobacco products has become synonymous with "Marijuana is safe, period".

That doesn't even just go for Decoy. Some of you others disappoint me too. You guys constantly point out alcohol whenever someone points out something negative in this thread even though they didn't mention alchohol at all. For god's sake moviedoors was just talking about himself and not commenting on wanting to ban it. This thread gets way too defensive to the point that some of you guys come off like d**ks.

not saying i'm not guilty of this, but I try to make sure i'm not the one initiating the conflict. even if the opposer does not mention alcohol, the fact of the matter is it is legal and atrocities occur with it. if the opposer doesn't want marijuana legalized in fear of the atrocities it can due to society, then they should be just as active about making alcohol illegal, given that it is proven to be more harmful.

The alcohol argument holds no weight when no one is talking about alcohol or legalization at all. What you're doing freaking out whenever someone says anything remote bad about cannabis. That is the equivalent of getting defensive about liking superheroes when someone complains about the color of Batman's cape.
