Liam Neeson's Taken, The Real Punisher Movie We Should Have Got?

Taken is so much more exciting than Dark Knight. Best action film I've seen this year.

Hoping your right. I'm gonna see it today. Keep hearing it's got this awesome fight choreography, better than Bourne, even. I shall find out in a few hours.

so I was up late the other night and watched The Brave One. It's kinda like Female Punisher. I recommend it.

My oh my...Taken was incredible. Solid acting, great script, AMAZING choreography in the action scenes.

Forget Punisher, every action movie should be that intense and well-made. I still love War Zone, but I kinda see what some are saying regarding Taken. Assuming they mean the grounded fighting and gunplay and 'vibe' of the piece.

WZ was a hell of a lot of fun, but if I were to do a Punisher film I might make it a little more grounded like this, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with WZ. A Punisher that felt more like Taken would be great, but that ridiculously OTT style of WZ is just as good, and more faithful to the comics I've read, which I'll give are exclusively Garth Ennis, but seeing as he's been the primary scribe for like almost a decade you can't really fault me for not having read any other's work.

But anyway, it felt like those comics, so basically what I'm saying is that even though a Taken/Bourne/whatever kind of approach to Punisher would be interesting, I'm sticking with the way they went. It's just as entertaining and more faithful to the source.

I'll check out Taken when it comes out, but judging from all the accolades that it received, it won't have been a bad idea if P:WZ were more similar to Taken than just a "superhero" movie. Who knows, it might not have tanked like it did.

Anybody else agree that Liam Neeson in "Taken" is the Punisher movie we should have got instead of Warzone?

If you haven't seen it, I would advise you to watch it immediately.

Liam Neeson deliveres the most brutal and efficient killings you will ever see on screen.

I felt like I was watching a real Punisher movie, but with a different name only. Sure, Liam Neeson is going after the people who have kidnapped his daughter, and none of his family have died.
But the way he goes about business is simply the most bad ass you will see on screen.

This movie wipes the floor with Quantum of Solace or any Bourne Movie for that matter in terms of pure action and the fights are awesome.

Some of the kills and action and the seriousness of the movie, with no campy acting was a sight to behold.

It is astonishing that "Taken" is more like Punisher than Punisher Warzone or Punisher 04.

I'm talking purely of the brutal action and the way he punishes his victims!
Taken provides such a satisfying experience, with all the bad guys taken out and justice served.

Maybe Luc Besson needs to be hired for a Punisher Movie.

But yeah, it looks like we got 2 Punisher films this year if you look at it in this way!

PWZ - a movie which divided opinion and flopped completely

and

Taken - a box office smash "Punisher" style movie which has grossed 68 million from international markets alone, and it didn't even go theatrical in the USA.

It reminded me of that movie with Denzel a couple of years ago with the spawn of Satan, Dakota Fanning.

Man on Fire, Taken is basically PWZ's Man on Fire.

It's hard to imitate that tone when the Punisher isn't really close to the abducted victim. Taken and Man on Fire share strong paternal instincts. Punisher can't display that in every movie. His family is long dead.

Not really, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to have the characters grounded in reality and not hammy or over the top. The fact that he isn't close to the victims or even the fact that you don't get a feeling that Castle connects with the little girl lies in the script and direction, not tone.
