The Dark Knight Likes And Dislikes

In terms of darkness, it's on par (from the trailers) with BB. But the 'less serious tone', Conebone? I don't know where you're getting that from. This is far from light hearted.

Remember this: The Empire Strikes back is considered the darkest of the Star Wars trilogy and it probably has the funniest jokes. Just because it has jokes doesn't mean it's a comedy, Conebone. You need comedy (in any form) in any movie.

The cinematography i've seen so far
All i've seen of The Joker thus far
Eckhart as Dent
The Jokers henchman and their masks
The fact that Joker isn't perma-white
Most of the dialogue
The tone it seems to have from what i've seen i.e. trailers and prologue

Dislikes

That I still have to wait a month
Rachael Dawes

I don't see how some people are worried about this being lighter than BB.

You've raised an excellent point there, 'Tober: Humour can emphasise the darkness by giving it contrast. :hyper:

Huge Plot
at least 3 to 4 meetings between Bats and Joker

Dislikes
lack of comic mobsters
the rating should of been R

now towards people stating its less dark than BB
come on how can you say that when we already know plots of Joker killing over 100's of people how much darker do you get than a guy blowing up a hospital just to kill one person ._.
chances are he kills half of gotham by the end of the movie
the prologe its self had over 6 deaths just cause the movie isnt compleatly emo doesnt mean its not dark hell from bat's lines in the trailer you can tell that joker pushes him over the edge with lines like " Batman has no limits " and " Now i know what i must become to stop men like him " and hell if you saw the damn imax cut in the comcast site that scene after the hit me line looks like Batman is ready to F**king kill Joker

- As others have noted, this film has a very epic feel to it.

- Bale's Batman voice has been perfected, IMHO. He's attained more control over the delivery of his lines.

- This film will be much darker in tone than Batman Begins. I have no doubts on that score.

- Heath's Joker performance. 'nuff said.

- Minor improvements with the new batsuit

- Great anticipation of Eckart's performance as Dent and ultimately Two-Face. I love the fact that we will apparently get to see brief glimpses of what the man is destined to become, well before the accident takes place.

- Emphasis on Batman having no superhuman abilities, as is evident by the bruises and scars we see on his back in one particular scene. It shows a hero that is willing to take it to the next level. He's down there in the trenches, not living the spoiled rich man's life. Did someone say this film looks to be less serious than Begins? Umm... ok.

- Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes. To me, Gyllenhaal has more depth as an actress than her predecessor. She also makes for an attractive leading lady and I'm glad to have her on board.

- All of the scenes taken in Hong Kong.

- I much prefer the blue overtones associated with this film than rusty brown, which was used in Batman Begins.

- Bruce's lamborghini

- That the word/name batman isn't in the title for the very first time. DARK KNIGHT indeed.

- Jonah Nolan's involvement with the film. I loved what he did with Prestige and I can't wait to see how far his influence goes here.

Dislikes

- I'm pleased with some of the tweaks and improvements made on the suit, but some areas did not require any modification and should have been left alone. Hemming still doesn't get the fact that many of us simply don't want the bat threads to be too busy looking. Whatever though..

- In the comics, Batman spends much of his time helping out the little man. He patrols the streets (every night) looking to prevent burglaries, rapes, muggings and other criminal activities within his precious city. I wanted to see that here. Batman shouldn't only be taking on larger than life threats.

I think that's about it..

I dont think Ive seen anything I dont like. I think it has the perfect amount of seriousness.

LIKES:

  • The confrontations between Batman and Joker at the penthouse, on the street, and in the interrogation room look like they are gonna be good ones.
  • Joker's portrayal by Heath Ledger is looking freakin fantastic
  • The clip of Batman jumping off the top of a parkade on to a van is going to be sweet on the big screen.
  • The viral marketing has been so much fun
  • I'm thinking this movie will have a darker and more serious tone than begins, considering the joker goes on a murdering spree around gotham.
  • There looks like there will be more interaction between Batman and the Joker than there was in 89'.
  • The fact that a lot of the influence for this story is from the Long Halloween. Such as the meeting between Gordon, Dent, and Batman on the rooftop.
  • The fact that they have used Imax technology to film some of the major action sequences in this movie.

DISLIKES:

  • I'm worried that there might be too much going on in this movie. And that it might be to busy with all the major plots.
  • The only thing I don't like about the batsuit is the emblem is to blended in. I personally liked the emblem on the begins suit, and how prominent it was on the chest, and on this one it's barely visible.
  • 40 days to go till this movie is released

I forgot to mention that one! The scene with the burning money makes a mea pissa my pantsa!

Less serious tone

Dialouge (from what I've heard)

Not as dark as BB

No, honestly I dont care what anyone says. To me, from everything I've seen to clips, trailers or TV spots. It DOESNT look darker than BB or anymore serious. Let me explain why. First off one of the reasons why its not as serious is because of the dialouge. I know I havent seen the movie yet but from what I've seen it doesnt have deep serious dialouge like BB. Just the whole tone and visual isnt that serious or dark. It deffinetly isnt as dark as BB visually.

Can you please tell me how on earth you have come to those conclusions when we have only seen maybe 4-5 minutes of movie footage? (Excluding the prologue). If that?

Dislikes:

Tiny Lister. I don't have anything against the man...But he's so familiar (and in comedies and some bad films).

I'm afraid when I see his big frame and bulging eyes it'll take me completely out of the film. But hopefully I'm wrong.

So far, everything else.

Totally agree.

he used the qualifier 'from everything I've seen'....

- Heath Ledger, all I need to say really.
- Gary Oldman, greatest living English actor.
- The witty banter between Bruce and Fox/Alfred.
- The Joker's costume. Unlike many artists they have finally discovered that The Joker SHOULD NOT WEAR A STRING TIE. A normal tie. A normal tie. A normal tie. How many times before they get it. If they gave Nicholson a normal tie his costume would have been perfect. In fact, he did have a normal tie in some scenes and they should have stuck to it.
- The fact that The Joker has his own theme.
- The little trick with Two-Face. Shooting each scene in a different style right? Genius. Pure genius.
- The clown masks. I know it's trivial but I absolutely love them. Especially the stocking mask we saw in the featurette. Creepy as hell.
- The fact that Bale has the voice of Batman perfected. "You wanted me. Here I am". Again and again he shows why he is in this posistion. Christian Bale has very, very, very few equals in his craft.
- The Scarecrow. A great villain from Batman Begins. A great villain in the comics. And the perfect casting too. Thank God that Nolan is bringing him back. Even if it's just for a small scene.
- The fact that it's nearly here!

Dislikes:
- The ominous feeling that it could be a flop.
- Hong Kong.
- The Joker not being bleached.
- The Joker having long hair. Although I think this will change by the end of the film.
- Batman's new suit. At certain angles it looks plain silly.
- The fact that Heath Ledger won't be around to enjoy the praise he'll rightly recieve.

Zimmer has described it as more psychological than anyone is expecting and he's seen the movie obviously. Nolan has said his favorite aspect of it is the battle of the minds between Batman and the Joker. Nolan's not really an action filmmaker, although I'm sure there will be plenty of it and I'm looking forward to the spectacle of this movie. There's some iconic shots that we've already seen in the trailers and I am sure there's even more in the movie itself. But Nolan, at his core, is more about storytelling than eye candy. In particular, he has always focused on psychology, even with Batman Begins (a summer blockbuster).

I honestly believe the interagation room scene will be the best scene in the movie and that is more psychological than an actual fight. Although Bats will give Mister J a bit of a beating during it. :word:

I also need to see the movie first. But so far, I like it all.
Except for some of the batsuit pics/covers from magazines; it does look a lot darker in film though ;).

Which Mister J will enjoy throughly being a masochist btw :D.

Stupid fan boys who rip apart every tiny little thing just for the hell of complaining.

LIKES:

- The movie length: what is this movie's runtime now? like 170 minutes? woohoo! It's a frickin' Batman epic!
- All characterizations thus far of: The Joker, Batman, Harvey Dent, Alfred, Lucius, Gordon... it looks like everybody has a huge role, a beefed up part, a big contribution to play.
- I like the gangster element. I'm soooo happy Nolan is slowing showing how Gotham was ruled by mobsters and then taken over by freaks.
- Dark, violent, character-driven plot.

DISLIKES:

- Just for continuity sake, I really wish Katie Holmes was still playing Rachel Dawes. I have no problem with Maggie. I just HATE recasts.
- The Batpod. I think it looks goofy and I think it takes away from Nolan's "realistic" take on Batman.... how is Batman, really, going to accumulate all of these vehicles? and what's next? Batboat and Batplane?
- No batcave. Okay. So it makes sense. The mansion was destroyed in Batman Begins and The Dark Knight picks up right where BB left off. But still... No Batcave. That sucks. No Batcave in a Batman movie.... ugh.
