I just watched the SE dvd and was thinking of all the good things about it, so I thought we, as a board could make a list of good things about it, no bashing it for once, just the good things. I'll start;

-Val as Batman was great. IMO his best scenes are as Bruce when he is remembering his past, He was a good Batman too, cant really fault him there apart from the Smile scene, however that was forced upon him, and it shows.
He wasn't a bad Batman however he didn't really excel at it in any particular way as Keaton and Bale have in some area's.

-Kiss from a Rose and Hold me thrill me, kiss me, kill me, are great songs.

-The fight scenes are pretty badass in Forever, especially the first one when Batman pops out of the lift then kicks ass. However I don't know wtf that blue zapper thing was suppose to be, even as a child i didn't understand that.

If not for the nipples, the Batsuit actually looked decent on Kilmer. And the muted tones of the Robin suit looked great. Just those damn nipples.

Even though, now older, I appreciate the gothic edge of the Burton films, the art direction of Batman Forever was certainly interesting for it's time.

I loved the decision to have the Riddler be the main villain for this outing. Though I wish they had either just done Two-Face the way he needed to be or excluded him completely.

I love Nicole Kidman's sexual aggressiveness and as MacGregor Scott put, sexy sophistication.

Though I prefer Batman as a loner, the idea of finally bringing Robin into the mix was again cool for the time.

I love the one simple shot of the bat flying in slow motion into camera.
I love the shot of Batman free falling off of the Ritz Gotham.
I love the shots of Batman running forth from the fire and that absolutely pissed look on his face that SCREAMS Batman.

And as cheesy as it was, I absolutely LOVE the scene where Batman flies the Batwing through the Bat-Signal. I get chills when that happens and the Goldenthal theme kicks into overdrive!

And the soundtrack was decent.

another thread desperate to justify ones appreciation for Batman Forever.

It's a guilty pleasure but a lame Batman adaptation. Lets leave at that. :o

I really liked the score, the main march/theme was great imo. Also the slowed down version of it worked for certain scenes too.

I like the idea of the suit at the beginning of the film, and the shot of him running from the Bat-signal at the end is inspired. Both of these are almost Trademarks of the last franchise.

Or not. Why would i need to justify my appreciation? And its not a guilty pleasure, its just a good film that i enjoy watching. I fail to see how it is a just another "lame Batman adaptation". This is not a debate thread so don't troll.

Thanks for telling me what my opinion is, I was so confused my those pesky little thoughts and feelings inside my own head that I forgot that blind_fury is the ultimate authority on everyone's opinions.

Forever was obviously not a great film, but it had some good points...

-Bruce was actually smart
-Kilmer played a good brooding Bruce who seemed genuinely affected by his parent's death
-Aside from the nipples, the Robin costume was surprisingly good
-Kilmer was the most physically fit Batman up to that time
-Robin actually observed that "no killing" rule (although Batsy basically ended up killing Harvey anyway :oldrazz:)
-The Robin saving Bruce scene was pretty damn cool

They did vast improvements in the mobility of the latex batsuit.

I thought the Batwing was very badass, a big improvement over the 89 design. (this is me saying this)

Arkham was introduced

-Val, He was a great Bruce- smart and to the point. If there was a loss in Keaton's Bruce he was too much smart ass. Val's Bruce was all business.

-The Batwing, always

-Jim Carrey's Riddler was funny as hell, he's the reason I bought this one. He twirled the question mark staff like he'd been doing it for years, and although he was a little "...was that over top? I can never tell!" He was great. That lame ass brain steallin scheme was weak, but well...

-While the two were in the cave, Dick was like you can't stop me!!, Bruce is all, I can stop you!! and put an end to that conversation immegitly.:woot:

-The live action demise of the Flying Grayson's

and yes these were the sole good points.

Michael Gough- He was great in this movie and probably had the most material to work with. I love all his scenes in the movie, from him guiding Dick and Bruce, to his comical moments.

Kilmer's performance as Batman was good.

Carrey's performances as Riddler was entertaining.

Kidman did a good job as the love interest I felt at a time where she certainly wasnt a big of a hollywood name as she later became to be.

The score itself was different than Elfman's, but was good I felt. Certainly fit the movie's lighter tone.

The fact that the film is much more darker than that of B&R. Yes, the film was much lighter in tone. But compare it to B&R and it's easily obvious Schumacher kept a dark tone in the film. Just not to the extent of Burton.

The suits were pretty cool aside from the nipples.

And the U2/Seal songs were pretty awesome.

Another good point is this was a film for everyone. People on here seem to forget that Batman is just as much for Kids as it is for adults, while the first 2 films were great for us... for a kid they weren't lets say... ideal, this film was however tone wise.

-Val as Batman

-Carrey as Riddler

-Kidman looked hot (and a good performance from her as well)

-The Soundtrack

-Death of the Graysons Scene

-Giant Bat Scene

-SFX.

That's the Warner Bros. marketing department talking, and it's nonsense. Most of the people on these boards saw Batman as kids back in 1989 and loved it.

Oh im not saying they didn't or even that I didn't because i did. But im just saying that BF was more appropriate for kids and they were more likely to understand it. Lets be honest, kids are going to like anything thats Batman.

Yes, the U2 Song and Seal's song were great! HMTMKMKM Video is just awesome. I heard U2 wrote it with the dark, gothic Burton films in mind.

The first few moments of Tommy Lee as Two-Face, when he's monologuing.

I always liked his henchmen, too, for some reason.

And yeah, the fight scenes, death of the Graysons, Val, yada yada yada.

Please, be a bit more patronizing. :whatever:

As it maybe, it still doesn't change the fact that its true.

LOL, no it isn't. I saw Batman '89 when I was a kid, and I loved it and understood it (how can you not understand it? It's not exactly Donnie Darko). As did a lot of my friends. I hated Forever, which I also saw as a kid. I did not love anything Batman.

I thought Forever was your favorite film like? And I understood 89, im talking about like the sub-text and that.

Sorry this post isnt up to scratch ive been on the piss lol.

Where do I begin...this movie had so much cool stuff. From the opening scene with Two Face(how they unveiled his scarred side was cool) to a wildly entertaining performance from Jim Carrey. Kidman remains my favorite of the batman's love interests. Chris O'Donnell was even cool. The sub-plot of Bruce and the diary was really well done, too bad the other scenes were never inserted. And technically, almost did very well. The CG still looks good and I liked the set design.

I like this movie, although I could name just as many flaws if asked(the worst being Two Face of'course). That's why I won't give big points to the direction because I was really angry what Schumacher did with Two Face. Tommy Lee Jones is a good actor and could have done a great job yet Joel had him camp up the entire role.

One of my favorite scenes in the film is the Riddler's first meeting with Two-Face in his lair. The dialogue is great, and Carrey & Jones were obviously loving it themselves. I love several of Carrey's lines:

"But then if I talked, what would keep you from slaying me, oh segregated one? By the way...that's never gonna heal if you don't stop picking."
"That's just to easy for someone as powerful as you...and you."
"Is everybody paying attention?"
"Has anyone ever told you you have a SERIOUS IMPULSE CONTROL PROBLEM?!"

I'm a fan of it today, although I initially found it a huge letdown.

And I understood 89, im talking about like the sub-text and that.

What films do kids understand the subtext of? (Batman Forever? I doubt it) How many films do adults understand the subtext of? How many adults look for a subtext? And who needs to understand the subtext to 'get' a film?

Sorry this post isnt up to scratch ive been on the piss lol.

No problem, it's still better written than a lot of the 'whats yr favoureight supehero's movie?' posts. :D
