Musical Little Shop of Horrors (2nd Remake)

Scarlett is a good singer, not great, but good. She could never pull off this role on Broadway by a long shot, but with the help of multiple takes and coaching she can nail the hard parts of Suddenly Seymour.

Chris Evans for the Dentist is a fine choice; the role is meant for a musical theatre ham more than it is for a really good singer, and presumably Evans has done enough musical theatre before to do this part justice.

Girls, I am not saying she CANT sing. I’m saying she can’t sing AUDREY. Being able to carry a tune doesn’t mean you can sing anything and everything. Her voice is wrong, that’s all I’m saying.

This is my all time favorite score and I want to hear it done justice. I don’t want another Russel Crowe in Les Miz

Unpopular opinion, I think the amount of flack Russell Crowe got for Les Mis was out of proportion to how “bad” he actually was.

It’s because that role has been defined by incredible singers:

His overall performance was good.

Scarlett will get a similar reaction. Unless she’s been holding out, she simply doesn’t have the pipes.

Yea, I’ve seen Les Mis live in Playhouse Square in Cleveland. I understand that Crowe doesn’t have the booming voice of Quast or others, but Broadway and movies are different mediums.

Crowe has rough patches (including his very beginning), but overall I thought he did well, especially in “Stars”.

Of other people I know who’ve seen it, my roommate and my ex both thought Crowe was fine/good overall, while my ex’s husband can’t stand Crowe in the role and is more of a Broadway purist.

Pretty much that. A stage musical and screen musical are different creatures. Admittedly, Suddenly Seymour is a number that should be closer to the stage version (like I Tell You I'm Not Going from Dreamgirls) than Stars or most of the other songs from Les Miz, but still, it's not like whoever they were going to cast for this film was expected to shake the rafters with her belt.

I think someone who can shake the rafters is a fair expectation for that role, especially in the current era of empowerment. It isn't that Audrey can't work if played in a more subdued fashion, but Ellen Greene has defined that role. She played the role on Broadway, in the film, and is still brought back to play the role on Broadway and off Broadway, Ted Needly style. Scarlet might do a turn that is appreciated, but I struggle to see people embracing it unless she blows them away.

That scene/gag was written specifically for Bill Murray for the 1986 film. No reason why they would copy and paste the same thing for this film.

I’m familiar with the original film, lord have mercy. Still a completely different scene with Murray and it was done on the 86 film as an homage. I’m saying there’s no real reason to copy and paste it again when it doesn’t exist in the show that this new film is based on.

What’s the point of adapting the musical to film a second time if you’re just going to do all the additional things they did the first?

And why does it have to be the same as the current stage version? They can take the best of all versions, add new stuff, twist it around, etc.
