Universal Working on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" Remake

It's funny enough but it's obvious they padded the hell out of the original story.

Looks cute.

I think a teaser trailer is incoming.

Breathlessly waiting for the big-screen version of "Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose".

Each year at Christmas they disrupt his tranquil solitude with their increasingly bigger, brighter and louder celebrations. When the Whos declare they are going to make Christmas three times bigger this year, the Grinch realizes there is only one way for him to gain some peace and quiet: he must steal Christmas. To do so, he decides he will pose as Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, even going so far as to trap a lackadaisical misfit reindeer to pull his sleigh.

Meanwhile, down in Who-ville, Cindy-Lou Who—a young girl overflowing with holiday cheer—plots with her gang of friends to trap Santa Claus as he makes his Christmas Eve rounds so that she can thank him for help for her overworked single mother. As Christmas approaches, however, her good-natured scheme threatens to collide with the Grinch’s more nefarious one. Will Cindy-Lou achieve her goal of finally meeting Santa Claus? Will the Grinch succeed in silencing the Whos’ holiday cheer once and for all?

Single mom? Good Lord.

feels a bit like they took gru from the first despicable me and put a grinch aesthetic over it
i am surprised for the most part benedict is unrecognizable in the role

I was expecting him to sound more Cumberbatch-y, but I guess that's why he's an actor.

So the whos don't know who he is?

I was excited about this movie, but that trailer was awful.

Who would have thought that the movie that features The Grinch wearing lederhosen and bouncing face first into a woman's cleavage would be the more faithful adaptation of the story? :o

This looks exactly what i thought coming from Illumination, bland, unfunny, and nothing like the classic Seuss tale. Looks like we have another Lorax here folks.

People say that about pretty much every major Seuss adaptation.

Still waiting for the big-screen adaptation of Seuss' "Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose", the cautionary tale about a moose who allows a bunch of mooching forest creatures to live rent-free on his antlers. In the end all of the mooching creatures are slaughtered by hunters and their carcasses are stuffed and mounted. I'd like to see Illumination adapt THAT!

With good reason. None of them would I ever consider "good". Some are just more terrible than others.

Not surprising that this looks the way it does. It's Illumination. Their animated films are mostly shallow and bland looking.

I figured since they did Sing, they were going to at least attempt something decent and even highbrow next to their cash cow(s).

Hard to judge from just a trailer, but it already surprisingly seems to be very reminiscent of the Grinch movie from 2000 and a retread of the additional "padded" elements and character traits introduced in that film...except less funny or interesting without Jim Carrey bringing the character the life.

It'll be a hard pass for me, but I'm sure it'll be great for kids either way -- most of whom probably have never seen the 2000 film.

probably would've laughed at the radio joke if it was the who christmas carol instead of happy.....

gotta remind people they made despicable me/minions in every film i guess

While I can't stand Despicable Me/Minions, and thought this teaser was just a rehash of what those movies do, the animation is absolutely stunning.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I'd rather watch the 2000 Jim Carrey version again than whatever this is.
