Fantasy Live action Hercules in the works at Disney

Yeah, how the hell do you not know what it’s going to accomplish for them?

Not sure why anyone would want the exact same movie just in live action. It’s been shown so many times that live action just can not capture the same energy as an animated film. The Jungle Book and Cinderella remakes are great because they keep some things from the animated movies but then go off and do their own thing. Even the Aladdin remake is at its best when it is doing its own thing imo. This is how I prefer and always expected all the remakes to be.

This is like the one role in existence I'd actually argue Liam Hemsworth is better suited for than Chris. He's got that dull himbo quality in spades, lol.

he’s slightly out of the age range though isn’t he? Like they’ll be looking for someone Tom Holland aged so that can show a hero just starting out and/or potentially maximise franchise potential. I like the idea of himbo representation though

They could technically get an American with Greek heritage or something by that logic.

I grew up in the 90s so I have a soft spot for Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Thing about those movies is that while I love them, there's room for improvement. Hercules especially. The Russos have the full Greek catalogue at their disposal.

The original animated movie didn't even break $100 million. Was not one of Disney's bigger successes. Mulan and Lilo & Stitch both made more.
This is true. Hercules had some competition at the box office such as Men in Black and (yes) Batman and Robin which hurt its run. Excitement for Disney films was also cooling at the time after the mixed response to Pocahontas and Hunchback. But it still has its fans even if it wasn't as popular as the earlier Disney Renaissance films like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King. A live action remake will be a success thanks to '90s kids nostalgia.

Dumbo was not a success. The sequel to Alice in Wonderland also bombed.

I wonder if Disney will get a Greek actor for the role of Hercules?
this is a live action remake of the Disney version, I don't expect them to go for historical/methodologically accuracy, and more just as close to the cartoon look as possible (which he was most definitely not accurate lol)

if they go the younger actor route/and they play up more the comedy aspect of the character (then traditional action hero) you know who might be an interesting left field casting...

Nolan Gould {from Modern Family)
(he's only 21 so still has room to grow into the role)

and he's in surprisingly good shape these days

Dumbo wasn't based on a Disney Renaissance film and the Alice sequel never should have been made.

Those movies are also getting the live action remake treatment. Plus, more remakes = more money. You get the drift.

No offence but that is a terrible choice in my opinion.

HERCULES: The Russo Brothers Say The Live-Action Remake Won't Be A "Literal Translation"

Hmm, sounds like they’re adding their own spin to it. I hope they don’t straight guy it up, like Hoover up all the musical numbers and replace them with grimdark moodiness. Fingers crossed they keep the fun

The Muses have to be in it. That’s non-negotiable. Glad to see they said music will be a part of it.
Yeah, but "technically" the music is still a part of Mulan.

I'm really not a fan of those comments, for reasons previously mentioned, and I'm kind of concerned about this now. At least with Mulan, we've never gotten a serious version of the story. There's literally no reason to do Hercules if the songs and fun characterizations are gone.

That's not a good thing lol.

Herc brings the movie down.

We've already had umpteen versions of serious Hercules.
So do comedic Hercules that's....you know....not this. Although, they could do the same film with tweeks and actually make a good film this time. so it's not that bad an idea.

Yikes.

It’s funny, they always add a new subplot to the live action remakes like giving Jasmine more of a backstory or something in Aladdin. But I think all the characters are pretty much well rounded with Hercules? Maybe the mum and dad? The adopted ones I mean. They got written out pretty quick

Maybe at the end, Megara becomes the hero?

Just saying, 2020 and all that.
