Fantasy Live action Hercules in the works at Disney

This movie should be colorful and humorous, like the animated version.
Not another epic retelling of the myth like Mulan lolks to be.

I never saw this cartoon, but hopefully the movie plays up the fantastical elements and doesn’t try to be a “realistic take” on the character like that Dwayne Johnson/Brett Ratner mess. And hopefully it also fares better than that Kellen Lutz trash that came out around the same time and apparently torpedoed his career.

An entire cast hired with no director attached?

Okay.

Just looked on Twitter and apparently it has been dismissed as a fan cast - Rolling Stone must have egg on their face, running with it if it was indeed a fan cast.

It's Rolling Stone Italy. One of the foreign IGN websites claimed Ryan Reynolds and Michael Bay were doing a Thundercats movie, when it was actually 6 Underground.

Rumor: Micheal Bay and Ryan Reynolds’ New Netflix Movie is Actually a Thundercats

Aladdin didn't translate well into live-action, nor will Hercules.

I still don't get why they are even trying with Hercules. It was one of their least successful animated films of the 1990s.

It was only one of their least successful financially because its release was unfortunately sandwiched in between Batman and Robin and Men in Black. It got good reviews and still has that '90s kid nostalgia factor going for it. It's a much safer choice for them to remake in live action than Hunchback (which I believe they are doing) or Pocahontas (which they'd probably be better off never remaking).

Nostalgia factor only goes so far.

LOL, talk about bad reporting. How or why did they think 6 Underground was Thundercats?

The guy had a "rock solid source." Plus, Michael Bay worked on Transformers. Ryan Reynolds was Deadpool. It made sense!

Thundercats is definitely one property that I never want to see made into a movie but if it ever did happen, perhaps the only way to make it would be to lean into the ridiculousness and cast Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool as Lion-O and let Bay direct it, lol.

Ewww Thundercats Roar live action basically.

Noah at least meets the description of the name Hunk-ules

I'm surprised they're trying this considering a lot of the other versions of Hercules haven't been that popular and this wasn't a huge hit for Disney either. I love the Disney version, it's high on my list but I rarely find anyone else that enjoys it that much. The Muses get a ton of praise and that's it.

If they avoid making this too serious like Clash of the Titans or Dwayne Johnson's Hercules, we'll be fine. However, Disney's live adaptions have either been bland carbon copies or horrible reimaginings.

How do you cast The Rock as Hercules and not make a Scorpion King or Schwarzenegger Conan type film? That deconstruction piece is not welcomed at all coming from the Rush Hour guy and The Rock.

I reckon the nostalgia factor will really build it up though. Plus if they lean into the superhero craze people will eat it up

I enjoyed Hercules when it came out and it absolutely should keep that same colourful, fun disney style. It might be an obvious choice but I could see someone like Waititi or Lord/Miller helming it.

I'm not really sure who I'd put in the other roles but I would love to see either Bill Hader, Will Arnett or Jermaine Clement as Hades.

I actually think all those Hades choices are bad, which ends the non-stop great picks for Hades.

Sorry, Vapor.
