Fantasy Live action Hercules in the works at Disney

Literally every suggestion for Hades is an excellent pick if you're going for an updated take on Woods' version. Bravo. You'd think I'd love the animated film since it's Rocky and Superman smashed together with an excellent comedic villan and pretty decent love interest.

Herc himself just ruins the film though, and I don't really like Phil very much either to be honest. He's not even on Mushu's level, let alone Genie's.

Imagine if they give us the real myth and Hades becomes Hera.

But I don’t think a story about a husband cheating on his wife and having an outside kid, then wife spending her life trying to kill said kid would be a marketable Disney story.

Change the cheating aspect and you'd be okay.

Again, what is the point of doing these remakes if they aren't actually going to be remakes? Just like with Mulan, if I want a different version of the story, I'll look elsewhere. But if they're marketing "Disney's Hercules", it needs to be DISNEY'S Hercules. Literally 90% of the online conversations surrounding the announcement was about the Muses. If you cut the songs, there's no point. It'll just be another family-friendly Hercules movie.

Eh, there needs to be a balance. You don't just want it recreated ala Lion King either. I think Jungle Book was the most successful at that balance of honoring the original but throwing in new aspects from the book and better character development. Same should apply here.

Keep the iconic stuff from the animated film, but bring in some more Greek mythology and better character development.

That’s a thing that already exists. If you want it, go watch it. I’m not going to fault the Russos for not just copying and pasting.

Hopefully they can go with that PG-13 that Mulan got yet still keep the fun like Aladdin. A lot of **** that happens in that G rated Hercules would get a PG-13 minimum in live action.

They might be toning down the jokiness and self-parodying aspect of it. For example, I doubt their Hermes will look and sound like Paul Shaffer and wear sunglasses.

And I agree that that a straight retelling of the legend wouldn't be all that family friendly. Didn't Hercules go insane from time to time and end up killing his wife and kids?

As an aside, it always blew my mind that the same actress, Lucille La Verne, voiced the Queen *and* the Witch. She was also known for playing the Vengeance in David O. Selznick's movie version of "A Tale of Two Cities" (1935).

I'm glad it's not going to be a shot-for-shot remake. Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King bored me to absolute death.

Gotta keep Hades, though. I know he's not typically portrayed as an outright antagonist in classic Greek mythology, but I just really like the character.

I love Greek myths, and it's been a while since we had a good movie dealing with them. Fingers crossed the Russos can cook something up here.

Out of all the casting suggestions I’ve been reading online, Bob Odenkirk for Hades is my favourite!

Yes, but not in live action. That's a fundamentally different medium. Disney's Hercules is a known story with known characters. Be all means, write a more nuanced, complex script. But at the end of the day, I want to see a new version of Disney's Hercules. It's like the revival of a Broadway musical. Sure, it's been done before, but it's exciting to see what a new team does with it. BUT it's still the same show. I don't want some random, generic Hercules story that's just getting the Disney label slapped on it to put butts in seats.

Disney Hercules is just an animated version of Donner's Superman set in ancient Greece, so I can imagine that might have something to do with it.

Chris Hemsworth as Hercules
Anthony Hopkins as Zeus
RDJ as Hades
Zoe Saldana as Meg
Pratt and Holland as Pain and Panic

and then have this Hercules crossover to the MCU.

welcome to the DCIU, Disney Cinematic Inbreeding Universe

This is like the one role in existence I'd actually argue Liam Hemsworth is better suited for than Chris. He's got that dull himbo quality in spades, lol.

I don't get why Disney's Hercules needs a live-action remake and what it's going to accomplish.
