Mystery/Thriller LOST - But Not Forgotten...Except by the Emmys - Part 1

How can they relaunch Lost? I know I don't want them to mess with what has been done, but I would be interested in seeing what they can do with all the mythology.
Set in the future? In the past? An alternate reality where Oceanic 815 didn't crash?

I've little doubt it will get rebooted eventually.

There is also the possibility of showing another group that Jacob brought to the island or some other timeline.

My ideal return to the LOST story would be in the same vein as what Shyamalan did with Split. Don't advertise it as LOST: The Next Generation. Make it completely it's own thing until the fact that it isn't has snuck up on you and slapped you in the face.

It flies in the face of how branding-obsessed TV is right now, but I don't care.

Love the idea!
Would make for great WTF moments!

Was it? I thought there was an actual charge made... didn't know Monaghan had anything to do with it.

I only ever heard it as Dominic pissed. Kinda like the barrage of insults he had against Evangeline as her career went upward.

I don't think it was just Dominic, from memory a couple of other cast members corroborated it without getting too specific. Like general "that guy's bad news" stuff from a few others who witnessed things over the production years.

But yeah, think the actual charge against Fox was after Lost for something else. Definitely seems there's a pattern though.

Dominic Monaghan was on the podcast Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum this week. It was a great listen if you're a fan of his from Lord of the Rings or Lost.

New ABC President "Interested" in Lost Reboot

I'm one of the people who hates the end of Lost. I actually dislike the last two seasons. However, I would be very interested in a Lost reboot. As long as it's really good, and really character driven as the first few seasons, I'm in.

Also, Lost was made in a different time. It would be interesting to see a diverse cast for Lost for today's standards.

LOST was pretty diverse considering typical 2004 ensemble casts.

Barely even HBO had full 45-60 minute episodes where <80% of the dialogue was not English, let alone a top 3 broadcasting network.

Also... why reboot it. Try to create something better, ABC.

Lost is the greatest Abc show ever! no wonder why they want it back!

season 5 was awesome by the way!

If they bring it back, make it a limited series from the start. These kind of series always suffer when you have an ongoing approach without a clear end in sight.

The scope and the mythology is big enough for them to write different stories without rebooting what has already been told.

I don't think I would like a reboot with a "new" Jack, Kate, Lock, etc., but a continuation in some way would be pretty cool. You can still do a lot with the island, there's no need to reboot it, and it would be nice if some of the old cast showed up.

I know the later seasons aren't perfect, but this still is one of my favourite shows ever

I don't want a continuation.

What would be ideal to me is a reboot. With survivors of a plane crash forced to live together on an island. But with a complete different cast. So no "new Jack" or "new Kate". Original characters, bringing new philosophical debates as well, why not?

That last season of Lost was a good old fashioned con-job. A bunch of aimless wandering and "flash-sideways" invented to pay off characters without the effort of doing it in the story. I await the day when Lindelof admits that "island = purgatory" was the extent of their big plan and fans got there too quick.

That said, reboot away. I loved the mythology they built in the first season or so. No-one would fund it, but I'd love an open world game set on the island where you can explore the whole damn thing and dig up stories from its history.

I'd like a Lost show set on the island during a different time period. Maybe the 17th or 18th century.

If you paid attention to the last season youd know that the island was not purgatory. They were alive while on the island. Some of them died on the island. The rest died after they left the island at the end of the finale. They went to purgatory which was the Flash Sideways world. Always amazes me people struggle with that. The finale spelled it out in plain words. Dedicated a scene to telling the characters and the audience that the Island was real and what happened there really happened. And that the Flash Sideways was where they went after death before moving on to whatever was next.

You could do more stories set on the island after the show. Going back in time might be redundant unless they go way back. But I'm not sure if I need to see it. Without the characters it's kind of pointless.

They can do a continuation too. They have a few original characters on the island at the end. They can be like the Jacobs and the Richards of a new bunch of characters.

The idea of exploring that mythology doesn't excits me at all. I'd rather see them reinventing the mysteries, creating new ones.

From a personal perspective, Lost succeded in the character-driven aspect. That's where the heart was. The premises that excited me (and would excite me in a reboot) are:

-Strangers forcing to live with each other
-Surviving on an island (where weird things happen)
-The idea of "who you were" doesn't matter anymore

If they give me that in a reboot, I'm sold.

I want it to be set in the modern times but in a cold climate location or some abandoned city (though of course its not abandoned if its gonna be Lost).

I know "you didn't get it" is a knee-jerk reaction to a finale like this but please re-read my post. I'm not stupid. I know what happened in season 6. I said I bet purgatory was the plan but fans were too sharp and got there way too quick, hence the ridiculous flash-sideways gimmick in season 6. It reeks of a last minute alteration. The irony of being told I wasn't paying attention is not lost on me (nor was that pun).

Yeah it would be incredibly difficult to return to the existing continuity in a way that would satisfy. You'll have a section of fans who are massively skeptical of re-opening a story they felt was wrapped up nicely, and a section of fans who weren't happy, with a laundry list of things they want "fixed". The mystique of the island and its characters is largely spent, and maintaining continuity with the vast amount of stuff that already happened would be a mine-field.

A restart with a fresh cast, new location, new mysteries etc is probably the best way to go.

I hate the "you didn't get it" BS that the fans who enjoyed the ending throw at the fans who disliked it. People are entitled to like or dislike something. It doesn't mean they didn't get it.

Anyway... I agree with you 100%. I do remember back in season 1 and 2, the most popular theory was that the Island was the purgatory; but the creators quickly dubunked it. After watching the last season it was clear to me that their initial intention was indeed "the island is the purgatory" thing, but since the fans quickly got to that conclusion, they had to come up with an alternative.

But the idea is essencially the same.

I've seen plenty of dull folk on the internet who genuinely didn't get it to be fair. Youtube comments in particular are frequently dire haha.

The "flash sideways" were a cunning ruse, especially in the first episode where the writers deliberately mislead you with the shot of the sunken island. That makes no sense looking back, it was there purely to obscure a pretty straight-forward afterlife gimmick. By the time the finale came around, it felt like they were hoping enough teary reunions would make you forget that you just watched a season full of plate spinning and cameos.
