Mystery/Thriller LOST - But Not Forgotten...Except by the Emmys - Part 1

The Lost marathon is finished. Didn't change my thoughts on much. Still really like the first half. Still think it falls apart in the second. I thought it would be worth logging the mysteries and such with my first time viewer, which began as quite an enthusiastic game and fell by the wayside around season 4. They liked season 6 more than me though, so that was a plus.

A lot is made of Lost's lack of 'answers', and I think that is a little unfair. There are plenty of clues that you can piece together in most cases. That said, I also believe those who were disappointed were totally justified. I think the real complaint is that the show became so unwieldy and so stuffed with mysterious loose threads that it could never deliver satisfying answers, a resolution that brought everything together in a way that felt natural. It also started on the promise of reasonable answers, which was dropped by the end, where the explanation was normally "the island is magic".

Wanna get it, but oh God, we’re almost at the 20 year mark, I’m gonna be sick. :o

Not sure if real or April fools, but I love how much Locke looks like a Peanuts character here.

I mean, he basically was the Charlie Brown of the island.

Seems random as hell but I guess it's because of the show turning 20 this year. And was it really necessary to give Hurley a chocolate bar? :o

Oh please don’t give me a reason to watch a Hallmark movie. Because a LOST reunion (and especially this one) would do it…

I think this show was the first one that I anticipated watching weekly, and the breaks during the season killed me lol. Theorizing on everything with friends & family, there was one Lost fan website in particular some of use woud use, cannot of the life of me remember what it was called... but I still have very fond memories of "The Lost experience" haha.

Time really does go right out the window...

I clearly remember RENTING Lost on my local video store. The first season was there on DVD, I didn't pick any movie and I was like "What's this? looks interesting". So I rented the first disc.
As you might have guessed, I couldn't stop watching. Then I caught up with Season 3 that was airing at the time so seasons 3, 4, 5 and 6 I watched in real time. I saw the first two seasons non-stop for a couple of weeks.

I want to say my family borrowed Season 1 from my uncle and started watching it on TV by Season 2. Those first two seasons especially are easy to binge!

This was exactly what I did too. I rented the first two seasons on DVD and was hooked. Season 3 started up a little while afterwards and I watched it as it aired from then on.

Is anyone here watching From? Many Lost alumni behind the camera, and the vibes are certainly there.
A cross between Lost, The Walking Dead, Wayward Pines, Dark and so many others. But the characters, the acting and a great pacing makes this one of my favorite mystery series in a long time. Third season premieres next month.

Lost was the first tv series I "binged watch". I don't think binge watching was even a term at that point. At that time, I only knew about it when superherohype.com would post news about it, and yahoo was doing a poll about it against Survivor. During those times, when it comes to American scripted shows, I've only watched Heroes and Gossip Girl in a weekly basis. The rest were reality shows. And I had to open the cable tv just to watch shows, unlike now.

I've bought the DVDfor the first season for some reason. I don't know if it was the cover but I knew at that time, it was popular. I watched the first five episodes in the background and eventually before season 1 finale, I was hooked. So I binged watch season 1 to 4, since those were the only seasons that already aired. To this day, its one of the best scripted shows I've ever seen and not a lot of shows I've seen in the past ten years could top it, not even in the level of interest that I had with that show. It was that special. Its crazy how the first 3 seasons were super long, more than 20 episodes, and the shortest season was 14 episodes. And compare it to most serialized shows these days, some don't even release a new season after 12 months. Crazy. I miss Lost. The show was impeccable!

There's also a Lost documentary to release soon called "Getting Lost" it's going to have many of the actors/writers/producers involved with it I believe. Should be interesting!

I think the format they had was really good

-Ensemble cast, even though there's a clear lead (Jack), the show is still mostly about a group of people. So if you're not into Jack, you can root for other characters and those other characters get to shine through their centric episode.
-The flashbacks, characters having centric episodes. Once Upon a Time tried to copy this formula, but Lost was the one that did it so well. I just don't know what other show have this formula other than OUAT and its spin off. It even got wilder when they ventured into flash-forwards which is still unique to this dsy.
-The season premieres, winter finales and season finales felt like tv events. I don't watch a lot of scripted shows anymore so maybe I'm missing out on some great shows in the last five years. But post-Lost, there are only few shows from my experience that had must watch season premieres and finales, and they weren't as consistent as Lost.
-like K mentioned in my other post, the shortest season had 14 episodes and the first 3 seasons were really long. Even though there were some infamous episodes and filler episodes, as a whole the show didn't suffer from having 100+ episodes. Every season is a must watch. The last season had great episodes as well. The episode in which Sun/Jin drowned was just heart wrenching. Like I remember freaking out for most of the episode and then sobbing in the end. It was that good.

My only main criticism is the last three seasons, definitely needed more room to explore other things. Season 4 was two episodes short iirc because of the strikes and Juliet/Sawyer didn't have a centric episode. Charlotte and Ilana were killed before they lived up to their potential. I was really intrigued with Charlotte, she could have been an another great female character. I thought Ilana would have been special to join as a regular in the final season, yet she was killed in the first half. That flashback with MIB and Jacob was like some alternate reality story and it happened so late in the show. It felt like they were running out of time.

Realizing that we’re just weeks away from the 20th anniversary…

They launched an official Instagram account for Lost few months ago and posted about the 20th anniversary.

I have been watching From. Solid stuff. It does bring the Lost vibes, and is great to have a better role for Michael.

Didn’t know he was on that show (haven’t watched it yet), but congrats Richard!

Sometimes I feel like the best way to realize how old a show really is is to watch its promos. This feels like exhibit A.

Crazy as it is that the show is 20, it almost feels more unfathomable that the show has been over for nearly 15 years.

I still love the show.

I try to recapture the experience again and again by watching reaction channels on Youtube. One channel in particular, Reatores, rotates new people in every year.
