I remember when I first saw Man of Steel I said to myself how I wish it would become a huge cinematic universe and how we eventually get to this moment. Needless to say, I didn't expect it to happen that soon or with so much less superheroes present.

Even if they'd waited just till the end of JL1 for the death of Superman it could have worked and led strongly into JL2 with the league already formed with Superman in it. I would have preferred the end of JL2 though.

Literally using the death of Superman to change the public's opinion on superheroes and bring about the Justice League, was a great decision I think. Also use that as a means of Superman's rise in the third movie. It just ties in so neatly with everything thematically and plotwise.

There just too many tradeoffs, if you ask me, for doing the death arc this soon.

On one hand, like you said, his death at the end of BvS changed public opinion about him and most likely led to the public being more accepting of metahumans.

But on the other hand, now we will NEVER see the iconic shot/sequence of Superman's casket being accompanied by several DC heroes or do any of the "funeral for a friend" moments on the big screen.

And while you get to do the whole Joseph Campbell arc on screen within the spans of three movies, Snyder has sacrificed Superman's role in the Justice League as a result.

And at the end of the day, most people in real life never cared for Superman's death because they didn't care as much about Henry's Superman in BvS. It would have made more of a impact had Snyder waited to do this AFTER he had won over the critics and a majority of the fans with his superman.

Nah the only tradeoff is we didnt get that iconic shot, but Snyder shot the whole funeral thing in a very exquisite manner, I loved it. Loved the whole parallel funeral thing.

And as for the public, who knows man. All people have different tastes, and opinions. the whole ad populum thing never sat right with me either. I cared. i know a lot of people cared, I saw people in my theater crying. Sure doing the death later had its advantages, but since its not a normal death, where you actually die and the audience mourns, I liked how they respected the audience and didnt expect us to believe he would actually stay dead and mourn for him. Nah he's coming back so I dont get the do it later thing.

But its all opinions. Its art, there's jo right or wrong. You wont change my opinion, and I wont yours so...it is what it is

On paper the arc of Superman could have been really powerful if it was done by a competent director. Snyder is good at creating compelling imagery, but he just is not a good storyteller. MoS being so divisive started this all off on the wrong foot and not rectifying the mixed reception to Henry's Superman in BvS ruined the whole "death" arc. That moment should have brought the audience to tears and been a defining moment in pop culture for 2016... instead it was basically forgotten amid the controversy of how much of mess BvS TC was.

I'm rewatching GOTG 2 right now. Only saw it once in theaters and was super underwhelmed. Figured I'd rent and give it another try, but man, this movie is too much of a joke fest. I'm not saying I don't like comedy in movies, but nearly EVERY serious moment so far has been instantly undercut with a joke. It's almost like they're afraid to let the story get dramatic or have any weight to it.

You know, after having watched parts of Pacific Rim again recently, I keep asking myself on why Hollywood hasn't made any live action adaptations of Gundam Wing.

I mean out of ALL of the Japanese anime properties that they have tried to adapt (and fail miserably), I would think that something like Gundam Wing would probably be one of the more easiesr properties to adapt.

Ben would've made a good Batman in his prime circa 2009 (The Town is evidence of that). Before then, I don't know; his acting chops weren't quite there yet.

I'm going to disagree. I liked Superman's arc and I don't think the death was too soon. MOS was met with mixed reviews and Snyder made it part of BVS. The public having mixed emotions on the Superman. Superman's arc is also Snyder's no matter how much good you do someone will try to tear it down.
The public was mixed on Superman and had he survived BVS that wouldn't have changed. He saved the planet and all we heard about were the deaths. That wouldn't have changed if he beat Doomsday. His death made everyone realize the force for good he was. When he returns he'll be universally loved and respected.

Back to the Death Note thang.

Of all the anime, it felt like the easiest to adapt to film to me. And with Netflix binge watching like we all do, it felt odd to not make it over 2 hour film. The only bad casting was Light. The rest were ok, and could be good with better material. The director got caught up reinventing the material that he forgot the source material, which pretty much gave a proper line to follow. Such a disappointment. If I had to recast it with white folks again lol...I would go with the dude from Baby Driver as Light and Juno Temple as Misa.

The only goddamn way Floyd loses is if he becomes old and slow after his time off. That is it. Folks really underestimate how hard he hits too. Before he moved on to the Money Mayweather persona, he was pretty boy Floyd, and that Floyd could trade shots with anyone. The man knocked down Gatti and Corrales like nothing. Mcgregor reminds me of that Brit Hatton. He will get knocked the hell out just like him too, IF Floyd didnt lose a step to his game.

Gundam Wing was awesome. 5 young pilots would be appealing.


If most didn't care for Superman's death in BvS, that is a problem. We'll have to see how his return will be received come November.
