Seen the first one, Now i got to check out the second. Thanks for the reminder

I'd give it a light recommendation. Whereas WW was a homerun, this is a solid 2-base hitter. Not quite there, but it's on the right track.

None of the emotional or comedy bits really landed as much as I suspect they wanted, but that can be fixed in the future. Above anything else I want completely new screenwriter(s). There were more than a few moments the dialog got painfully bad, and I'm shocked Wan let that go through.

Seeing it again opening night with some friends, this time in IMAX. I'm looking forward to seeing the spectacle again. Wan definitely nailed that underwater look as far as it can be carried with today's tech, so that was appreciated.

You mean a double?
;)

Oh, most definitely for me. There were some lines straight out of a children's book which made me eyeroll a few times. It'll play great overseas, I've noticed the simple movies do incredibly well out there.
This sounds quite derogatory towards non North American audiences...when is a well know fact around the world that Americans are know for their exquisite taste... :o

Don't be rude, y'all.

It wasn't worded great, but it IS true that Hollywood blockbusters more focused on spectacle and with less complicated plots/dialogue tend to do better in countries where English isn't the first language, because the language barrier doesn't get in the way as much. There are always exceptions of course, but that's the way the trends go. We talked about that in a couple of my film classes, and John Fithian, the President of NATO (not that NATO, but the National Association of Theater Owners) talked about it at a seminar I was at too, and showed some stats. It's a real thing.

I'm watching Life on Netflix and you can actually see the will to live leave Jake Gylenhaal's eyes as the movie progresses

I forget if he's the sole survivor or if it was someone else. Still waiting for Sony to retcon this movie into the Venom-verse.

I cannot believe an Aquaman movie may end up being my favorite movie of the year. I'm just...I'm just shook. I can't wait to see how mass US audiences respond to this, I think they will respond very well, the movie is DC's most crowd-pleasing movie in a long time.

The Raid 2 is one of the greatest sequels in recent years. It was almost flawless from story down to action.
The story surprised me the most given how compact the first one was. The Night Comes For Us just explodes Raid 2's scope to a

Considering the heinous editing in Vice my only hopes to top my list so far - 2018 ranked - are Aquaman and The Favourite lol And knowing Yorgos something terrible happens to animals in his movie so.....

I know this, I was just purposely reacting to how poorly worded the statement was.

It is true that non-gringo (yeah, what?!) audiences are more open to "big dumb spectacle", but there are many social and cultural factors that play a part in it (like, with pretty much anything in life); for example, the intrinsic snobbism of the American blogging/online critic community; in many parts, many people, even if you have an issue with, think something's dumb, etc, with a movie, you take it as "psst, whatever" and take with you what you enjoy, without falling into the common practice of trashing something and "BEST/WORST EVAAHHH!!!". I think people very easily forget that this little sample pool is no representative of any general audience.

lol about to watch the episode, they gave him smaller glass this time and still this happened lol

Damn right @Chip Chipperson . This movie rocked. Wan didn't hold back and gave it all he had. I'm sorry, I think these critics have a serious stick up their you-know-whats for this one. How does one sit during this movie with arms folded? I don't get it, I just don't. I'll be curious to hear from Hypsters who weren't to keen on the movie to hear that perspective. But I do not see how you can't come out of this with a smile on your face?

Also...imo...this kicked Wonder Woman's ass. Come at me.

I've watched Aquaman twice now, for me it's the worst DCEU film.
Visually it is spectacular, the world it creates is beautiful, the effects are great and the action scenes were very well done.

But the dialogue was terrible, all the way through there was hideously exposition and painfully bad banter. The actors tried to elevate it (and I have no complaints about any of the actors) but the script was just too bad.The plot was pretty generic and very predictable and the soundtrack was poor, apart from the Roy Orbison bit.

I think I would enjoy Aquaman a lot more it it was on mute.
The best way I can describe it is like a comic with a terrible writer, but a brilliant artist.

Hm interesting. To me the dialogue was no more heavy handed than spmething you'd see in a LoTR movie or somethng. Definitely cheesy, corny lines here or there but I come the era of cheesy 80's action movies from Arnold and Stallone and Van Damme whom I all love, so I guess it just washes over me and doesnt bother me much and definitely notbruinous to the sheer fun and joy of the film.

To each their own I guess. I haven't watched LotR in years, maybe the dialogue in them is worse than I remember.
