It's a remake. Except for a different 5 minute opening set up, it is very close to the original (but with Ray Harryhausen stop motion dinosaurs).

I used to watch the cartoon following the Christina Ricci movie, nothing ruins Casper for me, not even that they made homage to Rebel Without a Cause, or that a ghost can belch and release stench from his mouth although he can't swallow, or that ghosts want to eat.

From what I have heard and seen this is not a new thing. She got into it several years ago. The story I read is suspect but it came down to supporting an alleged cocaine habit after her husband lost their money in the 2008 recession. I don't know how true that story is but she's been in it for at least two or three years.
