The Dark Knight LR: Has some news for us

Wall Street Journal:

A spokeswoman for Katie Holmes has given The Wall Street Journal a comment on why she won't be returning as Rachel Dawes in the Batman Begins sequel, The Dark Knight.

"We never got to the negotiating stage" for the film, said Julie Polkes, Holmes' representative. "Katie was offered ["Dark Knight"] but was unable to accept the role because of scheduling conflicts. She was in the process of negotiating for another project.

Instead, Holmes will star in "Mad Money" with Queen Latifah which starts shooting in a couple of months with a budget of only $12 million.
Great job, Katie. Great job.

I can only guess...[BLACKOUT]That Rachel is supposed to die and it's supposed to be a pivotal moment.[/BLACKOUT]

I would have liked for Katie Holmes to have returned for the sake of consistancy, by she was the weakest part of Batman Begins - actually the only weak part... now, I am excited that two face will be in the film, and I hope they go with Ed Norton...

That's probably the case, they could just kill her off screen though and if that is all they wanted Holmes back for i'm not surprised she took the lead in another picture

What that means is that Nolan pushed her out more than likely - "Never got to the negotiating stage?" Give me a break - she had an option with the first contract she signed.

I doubt it if all she is there for is to die and i doubt Nolan would actually want to recast,no director does

Better than dying after 10 minutes:csad:

If this is the case then I think it would be a waste to recast the character.....

Surely theres another way around it?...

Well it's not end of the world about Holmes return. All I want is a kick ass Batman movie.

Now that we could have a better actress in the role, I hope the character doesn't die now. With Holmes in there, I would have liked to seen her killed off by The Joker. Not anymore.

The script's pretty much in it's final stages now. So whatever Holmes was supposed to do...we're stuck with.

I STILL don't understand why Nolan thinks The Penguin is a difficult character. He could've been a workable character and if Nolan would've treated the character like he is in the comics instead of Burton's warped version who lives in a grimy, contaminated sewer, eats fish, hangs out with penguins, and likes to bite people's noses.

And why would Matt Damon pass on the chance of a lifetime to be in another franchise? Sure, he's got the Bourne movies but they're done after this third one, what does he got left? Oh right...the Star Trek prequel no one will see unless they're a 30 year-old Spock-earred trekkie still living in mom's basement.

It's cool though they contacted and met with Josh Lucas. He's the better man out of Edward Norton and Jamie Foxx IMO. While Edward Norton is the better actor than Josh, I haven't seen Norton be so intense since "American History X" and he just seems more like a Riddler candidate than Two-Face.

Lastly, why recast Dawes? Was her character really worth anything? Sure, she was a love interest for Bruce, but I think Bruce in the end knew he could've done better than Mrs. Cruise. I mean I rather see Selina Kyle/Catwoman or Vicki Vale or some other Batman dame than Dawes again.

And I hope the female Latina cop is = Renee Montoya.

Wow, that just reminded me. I was so worried about the recasting that I forgot: Rachel is back. Which means...there's a low chance of the more important love interests in Batman's life. Which means...Rachel is back.

They better not make her the MJ of this franchise.

That may be why they are recasting, they want a run through love interest:csad:

I'm hoping she'll end up being the love interest for Dent.

I'm puzzled how a well made, good looking guy who can act at the level of Bale is wrong for a character that is supposed to be in the Wayne mould:huh:

I don't mind the run-through love interst thing (as its different from the Burton/Schumacher films), I don't like the recasting idea.

LOL!!!.....what a mess... :o:woot:

Heh, I'm sure Matt Damon could get into other franchises if he wanted to.
