Binged and just finished the series. Really loved the story overall and underlying messages especially with their relevance to recent events in society. I did have one problem with the entire series though which really hurt it in my eyes.
The hand to hand combat felt sloppily filmed and pretty weak. Some of the choreography for those fights felt really weak. Not sure if it that was due to Luke having to fight normal people but it left a lot to be desired.
Gun fights and a lot of the other action is completely fine and the drama the series builds even one particular cringe worthy moment in the middle of the series which hit Jessica Jones / Daredevil Season 2 worthy cringe (in a good way) had me drawn in but then the hand to hand combat would happen and I would get pulled out of everything they built up.
The finale fight I felt was really disappointing especially after all the build up. This series could have been great but at the end thanks to the hand to hand fighting & the way it was handled I felt a little let down. Some people may not have the same issues I did with it and the hand to hand may be a minor problem for them overall in their experience.
At the end though for me at least I would rank the series so far:
Daredevil Season 2
Daredevil Season 1
Jessica Jones
Luke Cage
Luke Cage had the potential to be my favorite. Story was there, a lot of the actors were great, underlying message was there, action with the guns worked, but once it got to fisticuffs it was a huge let down from the angles they decided to use where at some points you could see Luke missing stunt extras, to the sloppy choreography. Thought they handled Luke's fighting better in Jessica Jones.
