Luke Cage Luke Cage General Discussion Thread - Part 1

It's about time Marvel added some more black women to MCU in major roles.

I'm on Episode 8 and really liking it so far. I think it's the worst of the MCU Netflix TV shows, but considering how phenominal the output has been on Netflix that still places it very highly on my awesome scale. I think what it's been lacking for me, so far, is a really amazing villain. Daredevil had Fisk. Jessica Jones had Killgrave. The villains in Luke Cage just can't hold a candle to those amazing villains and characters.

I'm only 3 episodes in, but man, I'm surprised I'm seeing so much love for this show. Most of the acting is hammy, the action is laughable, and it just feels so corny to me. I feel like I'm watching a daytime soap opera. This isn't close to the same quality as DD or JJ. I hope it gets better, cause I'm not feeling it. Way too forced, for me.

That's too bad. Im 4 episodes in and this show feels very harmonious. Purposefully giving nods to blaxploitation, and giving us a great villain and hero who's kick ass.

I feel the exact same way. I'm kind of in awe at how bad this is.

Oh the DC fans hate it.

Why the hell am I not surprised.

Umm... yeah, I've been a fan of everything Marvel has done with Netflix thus far except this. The producers probably shouldn't have compared this to The Wire.

I'm a DC fan and I like this show quite a bit. More than some of Marvel's movies...even in spite of its infuriating ending. It's not as good as Daredevil but it's a step ahead of Jessica Jones.

I would also rate this season above Jessica Jones. If for only that Luke Cage didn't have any characters as awful as some of the subplot characters in Jessica Jones.

I'm the opposite. JJ had my favorite 1st season of the 3. But Season 2 of DD was my favorite overall. This was pretty good, but tied with S1 of DD as my least favorite of the Marvel/Netflix offerings thus far. Which means I still loved it, lol.

Yeah I rate Jessica Jones on par with DD S1, or even maybe a bit higher since I feel like it tackles more mature themes/ideas and handles them well. If I had to go in order, it'd be:

1. DD S1/JJ S1 (I go back and forth on these two quite a lot).

2. Luke Cage S1.

3. DD S2 (it has a strong first half, and the Punisher stuff is great. But once it switches to Elektra/The Hand, it really loses steam imo).

1.Daredevil S2
2.Luke Cage S1
3.Jessica Jones S1
4.Daredevil S1
But overall I love them all.

DD Season 2
DD Season 1
Luke Cage Season 1
JJ Season 1

I'm only midway episode 9 but if I had to rank right now it'd look like that:
1. JJ
2. DD 1
3. DD 2 (part 1)
4. LC
5. DD 2 (part 2)

both Cottonmouth and Diamondback, so far, have been incredibly boring, Mariah is acted superbly (of course she is, it is Alfre Woodard we're talking about) but a little bit too passive. I hope she gets more active in the last couple of episodes

Why is it always a DC vs Marvel thing with you people. We like DC movies we're the bad guys. We praise Marvel shows...we're still the bad guys. Wtf?

I haven't started watching. Is Cottonmouth a good villain or is he the cliche alpha male with violent tendencies?

I'm a DC guy but Jesus this show is amazing. Marvel is killllllling it in every direction!

Of the three Netflix leads, I think Colter is the best cast and most likable. What a great pick.

So not good but not terrible?
if the series would exist in total vacuum, he might be pretty good, I guess. but being a follow up to DD and JJ, it is hard to not compare the villains in Luke Cage with Fisk or Kilgrave and Cottonmouth is not in the same league
