Mad Max: Fury Road - Part 3

Some films don't make a profit until after they come out on Blu-ray and dvd. So even if this film doesn't make a profit in theaters, it will eventually make back it's budget and then some. It might take a while, but it will.

And the studio had to know this was a possibility going in, and I'm sure they knew that PP2 might still the film's BO thunder. Stay positive, everyone. I don't think the studio will consider the Mad Max property DOA so quickly. As long as we stay vocal and supportive and go see it in theaters and buy it when it hits blu-ray and dvd, and encourage others to do the same, I think there is a chance for a sequel. It certainly won't be fast tracked, but I doubt this is the last we will see of Max on the big screen.

Even if the box office doesn't work out, I am hoping WB sees this as a bit of a prestige project after the general reaction and reception. Not everyday you get one of the best reviewed films, well ever.

I still don't know how Pacific Rim got a sequel green lit.

This was a FANTASTIC movie. I am really hoping it gets a sequel. But, I think this will go the way of Dredd. Won't make enough in BO, strong DVD sales will make it a possibility, but ultimately, won't happen :csad:

Hopefully I am wrong. This DESERVES a sequel.

I think word of mouth is gonna help. My theater wasn't too full but the audience seemed to really like the film. Two guys behind me were almost too obnoxious about their enjoyment of it.

The good critical and audience reaction means people might just spread the word about this film's quality.

Pacific Rim basically survives because Legendary Pictures need something, especially with their move away from WB.

Box office seems about as expected - disappointing considering how great the movie is, but it could be much worse.

That's a possibility. That tomato score is hard to ignore. They would probably want the sequel to have a smaller budget, but if they bring back Miller he can make that work if he has to, and Hardy doesn't strike me as a greedy actor so he might be ok with a salary cut.

That is exactly what I was thinking Marvolo. TDK, with less risk.

I was blown away. I'm speechless.

Hardy, Theron and Noult did an astounding job. Miller, you're a god amongst men.

I'm still processing it. This was an instant classic.

Two things we agree on!? :woot: :highfive:

Just got my ticket. Tuesday at 1:20pm. :woot: Sadly in 3D but...

As for the box numbers... :(

I'm kinda pissed at the turnout. The casual movie go-ers whine day and night about a lack of great Rated-R flicks from Hollywood nowadays. Yet, Fury Road comes out and the beggers are nowhere to be found.

Yep. Or at the very least more 2D screenings.
Living in a small town, surrounded by small towns, it makes watching a film in legit IMAX hard. With all the 3D IMAX releases, it is almost impossible. On the bright side, 2D showings are the ones that seem to linger these days. So if I miss a movie opening week, I am not forced to skip it because it is only in 3D.

Eh, still a bit early to be disappointed with the box office. It still has important markets to open at.

Yo, how could I forget to mention the soundtrack?! I loved virtually every track.

What did you think, Darth?
I love it, completely. An instant classic for me as well. The beautiful, weird love child of Raiders of the Lost Ark and T2.

This is sadly true. Which is why when people complain that the big studios aren't giving them what they want, it rings false. The box office says otherwise.

Gotta say Megan Gale was badass.

Shame we never got to see her as WW.

If anyone expected Fury Road to make more money than Pitch Perfect, then I almost feel sorry for them. Very unrealistic expectations.
Yep. Several of us have been saying for a while now that this movie wouldn't have that kind of mass appeal. Doesn't mean we're happy to be right, but it was obvious from the trailers that, even putting aside the R-rating, this is a big budget "niche" movie. Mad Max as a brand was never gonna do big blockbuster money, regardless of the $200m WB sunk into it. Frankly, I'm pleasantly surprised this opening weekend is as strong as it is, because I expected worse. And I loved every second of this movie, for the record.
