Agreed 100%. Also, Max is the reason they go back to the Citadel. He is the reason they survive and change their society.
Max is 1A & Furiousa is 1B.
Yeah, the only part of the first movie that is completely focused on Max is when he decides to kill everyone in Toecutter's gang, and at that part the only bit of dialogue that he had was when he gave a saw to Johnny boy and told him that he will be able to get away from the car before it explodes if he cuts off his foot instead of the chains.
Max contributed plenty. He probably gets them out of the canyon alive. Furiosa is a Crack shot, but she might not have even made it back into the rig alive without Max to drive, and she wouldn't have had him to drive while she was shooting, or to take down the lead biker while the girls were fumbling trying to reload the gun.
Max also helped get the rig unstuck, killed Bullet Farmer AND The People Eater, and came up with an actual effective plan instead of driving 160 days across salt fields in the unlikely hope of coming across a viable home.
Odd note about this scene:
Alan Moore's comic of Watchmen pretty much steals this entire scenario with Rorschach trapping a child murderer in a burning house and giving him a hacksaw and the same proposition.
Zach Snyder's film version decided to just have Rorschach split the man's head open with a meat cleaver. Later on in the film though, The Road Warrior can be seen playing on of Veidts TV screens in his Antarctic lair.
Its such a small detail but with that movie Snyder himself was caught up in small details. If he wanted a Mad Max reference in the film, why not keep the one that was already written in?
Definitely. My favorite part is after they escape the canyon and both of them take out the bikers as the music builds up. That's the first time you see them come together as a team and it's pretty bad ass.

That's my sequence right there! As good as the bamboo body snatcher sequence was at the end, this Stagecoach-esque sequence was my favourite.
My guess was that maybe that guy's sacrifice wasn't "glorious enough", but i'm not sure, considering what we saw with them, it does makes sence for mediocre to mean "glorious" to them.
No release in China? Lawd.
I thought there might be some symbolism in their shoulder pads. Max's outfit always had one on his right side, and Furiosa has one on her left. When they team up, they become simpatico almost instantly.
My husband's favorite line is when Joe says to Nux, "Do this, and I will carry you to the gates of Valhalla myself; shiny, and chrome!" and Nux just looks utterly euphoric as his mouth is sprayed. It's hilarious/ridiculous enough to WORK.When Joe says it later it's definitely funny because they build it up with the dialogue and music only to have him slip and fall. You think Nux is going to do something amazing and he completely goofs up.

I saw a review that described it as the movie's sex scene, but instead of having sex, they kill bad guys together.

Seriously, why?!
Did most everyone pick up on "Mediocre." I heard Immortan Joe saying it Nux when he slipped and I thought it was just a sarcastic thing to say, but on my second viewing I picked up on it when Morsov sacrificed himself and the other Warboys said it. I guess it means glorious or similar and Immortan Joe said it later sarcastically.
I find myself saying it all the time. It's funny when people don't really get it (excepts for the Mad Max fans). It's really a humorous thing to say.

So awesome when Furiosa takes out the flare and Max is shooting away.
All the sequences where amazing. It was almost impossible to keep topping them as the movie went along.
This is one of those movies that gets better and better with each viewing (I have seen it 4 times) because it's so fast paced that you notice something new each time.
I think the pacing and the variety of the action kept things feeling fresh all the way through, where a lot of actions films can't sustain the quality of the action or simply become a bit repetitive.
I'm looking forward to seeing it again on Blu, hopefully they have a special edition steelbook with a collectible.![]()
