So I went back and watched Mad Max and Road Warrior. I've seen them all but barely remember them as I was a kid when they came out. Some scenes brought back memories, like when Goose was burned in his car. Mad Max was very average (probably good for its time), Road Warrior a much better movie by today's standards.

One thing I have to ask, is George Miller gay? Lots of men running around in heavy makeup, blouses, leather, belts/straps, bare chests, etc. or is this just George Miller's way of saying anything goes in a lawless society?

Miller is married to a woman. In fact, his wife edited Fury Road.

anything goes in lawless society when you make a movie in australia. if it was hollywood they would be warboys haha ;)

This is one of my fav sequences when the plow's lowered to kick up a sandstorm to extinguish the rig. Charlize so good. And the way Hardy loads the gun then hands it to Theron, and the way he fires the gun :woo::hubba

Absolutely loved that scene, possibly my favourite moment in the movie and that's saying something.

Max took Thursday

#1 again.

losing 467 screens so this should be the last day.

Fun while it lasted though! ;-)

Well, he could still have a "mind closet" full of man fantasies. :)
I just noticed a few things that made me wonder about it. It definitely doesn't take away from any of the movies, just something to note. :woot:

what an utterly great film.

I've seen it twice and wish I could see five more times in the theater. this is action filmmaking of the highest caliber.

That's standard Australian fashion my friend. :oldrazz:

That seems to be a running thing with Australian directors. I could've sworn that Baz Luhrmann was gay just from watching his filmography, but nope. Married for almost 20 years with two kids.

I didn't enjoy Escape from New York either. I think there are some movies that are just of their time. Anyone who enjoys those movies, more power to you but just not for me.

That's true, most 80's movies I saw during the decade or so when they were hot so there is a nostalgia factor when I view them now, but EFNY was one I saw much later when it got a DVD special edition and in truth I was disappointed by it and was on board with the idea of remaking it as I think the concept has huge potential.

There was a viral blog entry a few weeks back where a man showed Aliens 1986 to his 11 year old and his friends, they liked it.

The internet ganged up on him, said he was abusive for showing such a frightening film to impressionable young children.

I thought this was an awesome post by someone at Box Office Theory, for those who are wringing their hands that it won't make more than its budget back domestically:

Are people actually underwhelmed this will finish finish around $150M? Have you seen this movie? If it wasn't for Warner Brothers amazing marketing and having good faith and confidence in George Miller and this product, where would it have landed? What would Mad Max Fury Road have done over at Fox? Critcally and financially? Not only is this movie rated R, the concept is out there, and its still making $150M.

Don't be selfish now. Compared to relative costs of the movie, yeah this might not be the best, but compared to what this movie is, that is a fantastic gross. NEED FOR SPEED is a much more relatable concept, friendlier GA sell with a PG13, and more popular overall brand, yet MMFR still made more in just one weekend. We're talking about a series whos highest adjusted movie was $82m. And then this happens. That's amazing. Appreciate it.

:awesome:

I saw Die Hard, Alien&Aliens, Predator, and Terminator at a young age. Guess I was "abused".

When I was growing up pretty much everybody had seen that movie by 11.

Every kid saw R rated movies in the 80s. Even all the teen movies were rated R in those days.

Society has just become wimpified over time. And the internet has given voice for everything and everybody to be criticized.

I saw pretty much everything adult when I was a kid. My parents didn't really believe in censorship so I saw everything from Predator to Basic Instinct by the time I was 10.

Well besides the fact that PG-13 didn't exist back then. ;)

It depends on the kid. Joker in Batman 89 and Penguin in BR scared the ever loving s*** out of me as a kid, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone showing their kid that if they were ready.

There was a toddler at our IMAX screening of Fury Road, and he only made a peep once. :funny:

Yeah, same here.

EDIT: They haven't changed much either. My mother was very critical about the complaints over the Game of Thrones controversy a couple of weeks ago thinking they were being a bunch of babies and 'What did they expect would happen?'

We have this conversation a lot, but I watched all those movies when I was four or five. And yet I have not turned out to be a serial killer.

Are we supposed to take your word for that?

Yes, that sounds suspiciously like what a serial killer would say. :o
