Maguire confirms symbiote is from outer space

I'd just like to go on record saying that I was 1 of the first if not the 1st person here on these boards that declared the symbiot would come from space via John Jameson if we ever got venom in a spidey movie. I fought people like slag and symbiotica over this and now I stand supremely correct. It just made sense. My excuse was that John Jameson was introduced into sm2 for more than just getting together with MJ because they could have used any other guy but seeing as John is who he is it made sense that if they should ever use venom, John would go off and get it from space ala the 90 animated series.

i second that

How is this staying true to the comics??

but anyway, I think its kool it comes from a meteor.

Aye laddie. It's staying more true to the cartoon show assman. But either way, I like that concept a lot more than the other ways that the symbiote originated.

Nice...I could dig the outer space origin. They'll have to play it right though...which I'm sure they will.

It's a good thing Raimi didn't have the symbiote come from underground like War Of The Worlds.:woot:

^yeah cuz that wouldn't make sense...like how didn't the alien encounter the bacteria when they first put the machines in our ground and build up defenses to them?

they have more goblin serum and gliders and we are getting another goblin-type character

they have more spiders in the lab that could bite people to make more spider-men and spider-women

they will still presumably have the particle machine to make more sandmen or sandwomen (unless flint smashes it good).."the sandpeople will be be back, but this time in greater numbers"

does the origin as an alien for venom then mean that there exists the possibility for more symbiotes to arrive on earth to fight the many spider-people, goblins, and sandpeople?

raimi leaves a lot of doors open....ock could even be alive...at least his arms could

I like alot of the ideas used in the 90's cartoon. Jameson brings back sample rocks from space, which in turn bring the symbiote.

this is exactly how the animated series origin went down..jameson lands on the moon, and they find an interesting meteorite. they bring it back with them, and it starts "bleeding" out of the symbiote after jameson cuts a sample... it then proceeds to go ape ***** crazy and tries to bond with jameson, causing them to lose control and completely ***** the bridge up....
spidey saves the day only to be blamed for the whole mess (sound familiar?)
and to have his favourite threads stained...

Do you not understand the concept of an opinion? Many of us like the idea of organics and we don't have to explain why. It's a movie based on a comicbook character not a direct translation of the comic.

We don't obsess about it and write longwinded crap about why we love it or hate it like some.

Of course not. Like the mindless drones that people like you are, you'll accept anything BUT as long as the name, spider-man is slapped on it its ok because according to you, its based on a comic book.:whatever: Whatever AND you make it out as though the attribution of mechs is a major deal in being a direct translation from the comic that we could do without. Dont be silly. The fact that spidey has to tap his palms even though he has orgs is stupid and a cheap copout of not having mechs. Ugh, I've already gone off topic for a 3rd time but whats done is done, moving on......

The biggest shock would be (not that this would ever happen, obviously) is after the opening credits, we hear a voice over by 'McGuire'....."During the Secret Wars...." and see a quick flashback of Spidey fighting alongside Thor and She-Hulk et al, the Beyonder, Doom becoming all-powerful, and then Spidey discovering the costume machine.

As you said, it'll never happen BUT if it did spidey fans in the audience would go nuts, I know I would.

Remember that this symbiote from space has to be taken into context with a summer of hormone-rampant trainee wizards, alien transforming robots from space, Captain Jack Sparrow in Purgatory, and not least of all: Silver Surfer and Galactus!

The "cosmic" origin will be easily consistent with the Spider-man film mythos.

It shouldn't even be a problem anyway, regardless of the contents of the competition. These movies are pure fantasy and are based on the contents of the comic books. If anyone has a problem with it then they're simply idiots.

yeah, that would be a stupid idea, its much better if the symbiote comes from space, it make ALOT more sense.

Is Daniel Gillies even confirmed to be returning as John Jameson in this one??

yeah he is:cwink:.

IMDB says (in talks) so that's not necessarily your piece of cake when it comes to consistency.

It would be good to have John in there. But its not a huge factor

I'm not a venom fan, which is why I'm not particularly hyped about the movie, however, I am happy that the symbiote is an alien because it does respect the origin and on the other hand, somebody finally has the balls to bring in a truely supernatural, larger then life villain to the screens. It kinda paves the way for Galactus and Silver Surfer in a way. :)
and this might be stretching it but also for Green Lantern.

No. And as I said in another thread, I'm sticking to what the Q&A and script summary said on this subject. The symbiote comes from a meteor.

me to, thats what i have been relying on, even though daniel gillies isnt confirmed for spidey3, maybe he will be in the movie, imbd isnt very reliable though.

Yes, exactly. It lets the Spideyuniverse be broad, not narrow. Also, I love Tobey but couldn't he have done better than to call the symbiote "goo"? This guy has been with the franchise for several years and he can't phrase it any better, "alien being", etc?

You know what that makes venom right?

"Run for your lives. It's the Goo-Man!"
