Make a New Avengers Cartoon!

Another thing I'm trying to figure out is how to include Hercules on the show. Basically, I just need to figure out how to make him different from his Godly comrade and rival, Thor. On JL, they distinguished the two warrior women, Wonder Woman and Hawkgirl, by making Shayera a bit more of a savage.

Play up Thor's nobility and Hercules' drunken tomfoolery. Where Thor is a highly respected if somewhat arrogant member of his pantheon, Hercules is basically the unstable black sheep of his. He may fight nobly, but he's an uncontrollable lecher in everything else.

Thank you! That sounds about right. You would think that Thor would be the savage, since he's the VIKING god. Another thing I'd like to play up is the fact that Thor is stuck on Earth (via Don Blake), but Herc is not.

Yeah, but Stan Lee took a decidedly romantic notion of the viking gods when he put Thor into the Marvel universe. There's a lot of chivalry and Arthurian morality in Marvel's Asgard.

A cool idea for an episode featuring Thor and Herc would be if Thor is whining about being stuck on Earth as Don Blake while Herc, who's free to go where he chooses, thinks he's crazy because Herc actually chooses to stay on Earth, citing that it's a hell of a lot more fun than Olympus. Ultimately, of course, Thor comes to appreciate Earth more in the end.

This is cool and all, but I'd prefer a live action series. Or at least a cartoon intended for older people, not that kiddie crap Fox gave us in the 90's.

Live-action would be prohibitively expensive.
Way I look at it is if HBO could pull off Rome, they could probably do the Avengers. I certainly don't think network TV could pull it off, and even if they did they'd screw it up so badly even I wouldn't watch.

I guess they could, but they never would. No one's gonna shell out the amount of cash it'd take to make a live-action Avengers show look as great as it deserves to. Maybe someone could squeeze out enough money for a solo live-action hero's show with a decent budget, but an entire team of them is too much.

Oh, I'm not saying it will happen, but if it were done right, it would be great. I mean most TV shows have like 15 or so people in their cast, so that lends itself to a hero team right there. But, yeah I ain't holdin' my breath waiting for one.

Yeah, it would be cool. I'd even be pretty happy if they cut the roster down to just a few key players--Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Vision, Scarlet Witch, Wasp--and just had the rest come on every now and then as guest stars. Your boy Lewis could play Cap, even. For a movie I don't think he's right, but for TV he could work.

If it manages to survive the relatively low ratings and lack of material due to the writers' strike. I love the show, but I doubt we'll get a second season, unfortunately.

growl... I'd love to see a 'real' Avengers animated series, but the way Marvel chops up its individual hero properties, stupid legal red tape gets in the way.. and for whatever reason, Marvel has historically been more accommodating to network demands than the Warner-DC toon production staff..

Really? I was under the impression that it was doing well, and as far as I know, it will be unaffected by the strike, unless the strike is not resolved in two months (I assume it will be though)

All I've been hearing lately from entertainment news sites is how Journeyman and Life are not doing so great. I think Journeyman's worse off than Life, but neither is where NBC wants them to be. I hope you're right and that it does get a second season, though.

Marvel's stopped "chopping up" its properties. All of their characters, except the ones who had licensing deals in place already, are being developed for other media through Marvel Studios now. I'm pretty sure that allows Marvel to retain the rights even if other companies develop them, meaning they can have characters cross over with each other more now.

but don't you think the supreme soviets are outdated?

Not bad. Personally, I'd never have the guts to change the founders like that. The "Lost in Time" episode would be awesome, but I'd probably save it for season 2 (tho I'd still intro Kang in season 1).

The Jack Monroe ep sounds wicked. Is that from the comics or did you think that up?

And of course, SECRET WARS!!!! I can't believe I didn't think of that. I thought it was stupid the way they did that on the Spider-Man 'toon. I only want to see WARS as an Avengers arc, or as a stand-alone DTV event.

I agree with DawnWarrior that JLU and the whole Timm-verse is the best model for an Avengers toon. The drama deserves to be on par with a prime-time series rather than a run-of-the-mill Saturday morning kids show.

as long as you have cap, iron man, and Thor i feel that the rest is up for grabs as team members go. but thats just me.

Jack Monroe was more or less the comics only set in the now and adding the skull. there was another story where the skull did use bucky as a way of getting to cap but it was a LMD or something so i just combined the two.

As much as I love Thor, he's been on and off the Avengers so often that I don't think he's a truly necessary presence. Cap, Iron Man, the Vision, and the Wasp are the characters I would consider must-haves for any Avengers team. Cap's the leader, Iron Man's the brains, the Vision's the heart, and the Wasp is probably the Avenger who's grown the most over her years on the team.

and thats fine, i wouldn't have thor in every episode. i would fallow the model of JL and JLU for the stories by not having all the avengers in every episode.
