Making the perfect Spidey suit

Just starting to glue the webbing down. The spider isnt attached. It's just sitting on top of the webbing.

What kind of glue do you use for the webbing?
My webbing is made out of latex and i guess, the last webbing was "destroyed" because of the wrong glue.
I've used glue for soft viny...

Yeah... the textile- glue is based on liquid latex. The other glues are hard to find in germany, nearly impossible. Too much rules for glue in germany
And the textile glue is very expensive here in germany... about 4 Euro for about 20ml glue.

Have you tried importing or are the shipping in of these glues is not allowed? I have a source for extremely cheap superglue and textile type glue and this is the stuff I use regulary on most projects. But then shipping would be more than the glue its self I'm guessing or comparable. The the textile works well on latex material and the superglue on urethane.

Thats nice Brad..Hey is that a new coat silver paint you used for your Spider and Molds..That looks really nice. Cant wait to see it on Person. I dont think Ive seen photos of anyone wearing one of your Black Suits with Urethane webbing before. Would like to see someone post that one of these days.

Actually that's without paint. I'll not be painting the webbing for the black suit. This will be the first full black suit I've made so hopefully I'll get some nice pics.

hey, those of you that are becoming pros @ gluing down your webs what is your general technique? do you glue them on most of the way before sewing? do you glue them down after, and while the costume is stretched out over something like a mannequin? hook a brother up

There is a "perfect way" to glue a set of webs down. The movie guys really must of glued 100's of set to fine tune the best way. For example gluing the webs starting from the "ground" up and I don't mean start with the feet. although you can.

This will quite possibly be the COOLEST thing you've ever heard or seen. It's the old 70's costume, cheezyness and all. Ill-fitting, webs mismatching, saggy, wrinkled, stitches pulling, vinyl booties! What's NOT to love! That's the Spider-Man I grew up on and THAT'S the REAL Spider-Man as far as I'm concerned! And there was NO BETTER 70's era, wannabe porn music, guitar/Saxophone riff then the one that they used as the theme song for Spider-Man. I can hear it in my head, even now! If you REALLY want to hear some 70's musical brilliance AND see the BEST Spidey EVAAAARRR! Look at THIS (Warning: The music MAY stay in your head for the REST of your life!)

OK..the glue... Lotite All Plastics glue works good. I glue under each web intersection first, then I glue the parts between the intersections going down by lifting and gluing very carefully and finally the webs running across. I've tried both gluing after sewing and prior to sewing. I think prior to sewing is a little easier as I print the suit to fit the scale of the webbing but you still need to leave the webbing un-glued where the sewing machine needs to run. Also, with webbing pre-glue the sewing is a little more difficult as the webbing tends to get in the way. Then you need to glue all the webbing edges together and the 1 inch either side of the sewing .. so either way making these suits isnt something that is done real quickly.. Gluing takes HOURS and HOURS. The head and hands are pretty much fully glued after sewing as these parts are fairly small and glued webbing would surely get in the way.

Mixed into the urthane mix not the mold. Dusting the mold didnt look real good.

For example take the chest piece. You would start at the point near the pelvis and start gluing vertically. This is so the glue doesn't drip down the webbing (or onto the costume) as this could be a problem for urethane and also so you don't have to fully flip the web over when it's half way stuck down.

Having a mannequin is instrumental because the webbing is supposed to be stretched with the fabric. This way when it is being forced to stretch to that size you won't have issues with stretching your body into it.

Guys for all of you that have actually made a full Urethane Webbing Suit and spent HOURS AND HOURS spending like all of you said it takes (and I truley believe you on that one) Aprox how many days or Months does it take to finish an entire suit...I now have the full understanding on why Urethane Webbing Suits cost soo much because the maintance can be such a pain in the neck you have spend lots of $$ on glue. You have to glue piece by piece little at a time hours after hours. Have you guys ever tried using Arcylic Glue by going over the printed weblines... This is what a suit looked like after I applied the Aryclic Glue on the weblines on the entire suit and only took 2 whole days to finish it. It would be alot cheaper and less time to do it if you do it right..and the same rule applies It could get messy as well so you have to be really careful when applying the glue on the weblines. And feels great and looks ok after its finished.

Here is another one with the mask on by the way sorry posted it too late..I recently took these photos after I applied the Arcylic glue on the weblines on my suit..it looks ok it doesnt look that bad..but its alot cheaper and more easy to put on..less maintance..and great for those that cant afford a $2000-3000 full urethane Spider suit.
