I really hope they find a way to do a Little Mermaid movie in the next few years since Ursula has an interesting backstory that deserves to be explored.

Unless people gain the ability to talk underwater I can't see a live action Little Mermaid working I wouldn't turn down a cgi pic though.

Why would that be a problem. They don't actually have to film most of the film underwater, just enough to get a reference. The bulk of the underwater stuff would be special effects. You could also ADR the voices if necessary.

Solid teaser.

I like Elle but her accent here is quite distracting.

This looks amazing. You can see they haven't finished the special effects yet which is why they only focused on one scene but it just looks so amazing.

I love how Angelina modulated her voice to sound like the original voice actress.

I wonder if this is how a Wonder Woman movie done right could look?

Guess I'm the odd one out, as I thought that trailer looked like a cross between Alice and Wonderland and Oz the Great and Powerful, which I wouldn't consider to be a good thing.

Jolie looks great as Maleficent, but Elle Fanning, who's normally great, seems horribly miscast here, imo.

You are not alone. I liked the creepiness in general, but it didn't look pretty to me. My brother groaned "it looks green", and I know exactly what he means.

this is what Disney wants. the same style. movies are directed by directors. but studios choose the style of the movie. so now every movie looks the same. even the stylized shape of the trees looks the same for over 5 years.but i accepted it. i learned it

but the style is not that bad.

Yeah, i thought the same, but i think after Alice, John Carter, Lone Ranger, The Avengers. Iron Man 3 and Oz i'm warming up to this look and style. It's still quite professional and Disney latelly has released films with a very good cinematography

But The Avengers and IM3 don't look like the Disney films you mentioned. As a matter of fact, I'd put Alice, Oz and Maleficent in the same looks category and John Carter, Lone Ranger and maybe Pirates in the other.

The Avengers did, in least the Chitauri, which had that simple and kind of plastic but realistic enough look, as for Iron Man 3, it certainly looked like it came from the same wallet.

TA and IM3 shared the same look, but I don't think they looked like the other Disney movies you mentioned. It's just the way the CGI looks, but the Marvel movies have a different style than the Disney movies. Of course they would look like they came from the same wallet because it's the same resources used to make them, but they are still differentiated through the overall look and style. That's just how I personally see it. I can certainly see the impact that Disney has on Marvel, because movies like TDW are looking better this time around than they did in Phase 1.

I think that while Marvel films are easy to diferentiate from Disney's other films, since The Avengers they're starting to look more like Disney's other movies, which is fine to me, Iron Man 3 expecially reminded me a lot of Disney's blockbusters where they take a likeable actor and try to entertain the audience as much as they can. The Avenger's effect looked the same as most Disney films, but the cinematography wasn't (frankly) as good.

The only thing they lack right now is that middle quest in the middle that most people usually feel to be unecessary to the plot or to drag the movie.

The look of this movie (so far) reminds me more of Oz the Great and Powerful more than anything... I seriously think Jolie will make the movie better than it really is

This will be Robert Stromberg's first time directing a movie, so I don't know what to expect. A great looking movie can be expected, due to his background. But he hasn't proven himself when it comes to directing. Hopefully he actually delivers.

Regarding Elle Fanning in the trailer...

True, she seemed a bit off. But it could have been worse. We could have gotten Kristen Stewart.

I thought the teaser was solid enough, but so little was shown really I couldn't find a solid impression either. Jolie looks like she'll do good in the role. I'm still not a huge fan of it being live action, but whatever, no changing that. The teaser gives me hope that it could be solid, though.

I really can't say that thought crossed my mind at all

I don't think that we can really judge Elle's performance based on one small trailer.

You may not but plenty of other people disagree. :oldrazz:

10 seconds of dialogue is all any real cinemaphile needs, didn't you know? :o

was really impressed with the poster/trailer
i like that jolie sounds pretty close to the original voice actor, she obviously looks the part also, but that was never in question, really looking forward to this :D

She doesn't even need dialogue.

Hmm, something seems off with this one. Can't put my finger on it right away like I did with the Noah trailer. I'll have to sleep on it.
