I agree that critic spots are BS, but as for the other thing I saw someone one the BvS boards say that they're worried about the movie because of F4.

Why would anyone use F4 as a comparison right now? It's in a league of its own with regard to behind-the-scenes circumstances and critic/audience savagery. To even bring it up as a point for concern for other films shows how unprepared some people are to have discussions on a site like this.

That's true; I think the reason some people on the BvS boards brought it up is because sometimes when there's a bad superhero film released (or at least a superhero film that isn't well-received), people worry it could hurt the genre. They said it with Green Lantern, for example. I think the genre is safe but given the mixed response to MOS (a film I loved, btw) fans are worried that unless BvS is absolutely perfect, critics will rip it apart.

But this is all speculative. I haven't seen F4, so I don't know for sure if it's just flat-out awful or if it's a case of critics blowing a few flaws out of proportion. Though the latter seems unlikely, since the response has been almost completely negative.

Anyway, back to topic... I really hope UNCLE is good. From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the performances are great all around and the only problems the movie had are in the script (not that it's bad, just that it's not amazing). But that's pretty much par for the course with Guy Ritchie; the only film of his so far where I'd say the script matched the great performances and direction was Snatch.

Yeah, Ritchie's films aren't brilliantly scripted/plotted. They're enjoyable romps made better by good performances by the actors.

Guy Ritchie IMO is one of those directors who can elevate a bad/average script.

Of course Swept Away and Revolver also prove that he can make crap as well (insufferably pretentious crap in the latter case).

Oh God yes. Revolver was absolutely unbearable. I wouldn't recommend that piece of crap to anyone.

That said, Snatch is one of my all-time favorites.

Still no reviews. Okay, I'm starting to get a little worried here. It'll be a shame if this thing gets panned. I don't expect it to be a big box office smash, but I'm hoping that it will be a well-liked and enjoyable film.

Really? Even Oscar bait movies are left till the last couple of days before emago's are released.

Straight Outta Compton has had reviews up since at least last week, as have the other releases this week. Look, I'm hoping that the movie is great. I seriously am. But I would have thought at least some reviews would have hit by now.

It's def a little anxiety producing, but I do know that Fury Road opened 5/15 and the first reviews didn't hit until 5/11, and they were definitely not trying to hide anything with that movie in terms of its quality. That was another WB film, so who knows.

Oh, really? Interesting; I didn't remember that. Maybe WB just has some weird policy about not letting reviews for their films hit until a few days before the release then. Seems kind of dumb; especially in the case of Mad Max, which was damn near 100% on RT. You'd think they'd want to get the word out as soon as they could on a film like that to help boost the box office.

I'm sure its fine. If the previews are anything to go off its gonna be a damn fun ride. Oh and for the record I kinda enjoyed Revolver.

I saw TOO MUCH of Liotta in it.

And by that I mean that I had no desire to ever see Ray Liotta in a speedo, but apparently Guy Ritchie thought the world need to see a LOT of that.

Anyway, it looks like GQ wrote a positive review of UNCLE but it got pulled for some reason? Strange.

Wednesday of release week is a typical embargo date. Chill.

I wouldn't worry about no reviews yet. How much you enjoy this movie is how much you enjoy the three leads. If you don't, probably not. Not a movie where the plot really matters.

I think they try to keep it consistent at WB. So as to not show their hand.

Guess that makes sense. So that when they DO have a bomb on their hands, they don't let people know. (Hopefully that's not the case here.)
