hmmm he doesn't sound so sure if the movie is getting started next year now... Looks like he's being given the run around.
Legendary Pictures set out for the script to be written, and as far as they know they are workin on the sequel... But this doesn't mean that it's happening.

The WB has yet to greenlite it, and who knows if they even will... Especially now since JLA, and Teen Titan movies are in pre-production.
I doubt they will use Routh's Superman since he wasn't very well received in SR, and maybe they want to stay clear off that movie, and not have anything tie right into it.

By the way SR was one of the worst comic book movies ever made, and one of the worst of 2006.... What movie did you see?

:cwink:

Superman Returns Rules!! Don't argue.

I'm glad other people are realising a JLA movie would need about a $350 million budget and so i doubt WB would risk it before SR2.
No it wouldn't. They have Routh and Bale on contract for a certain price for a crossover. The other people don't have to be big stars. If Transformers only cost 150 million, a Justice League movie doesn't have to cost that much.

The Justice League movie everyone would want to see would easily hit the cost of this summers biggest flicks (Spidey 3 and POTC3) which was at the bare minimum 250 million production. (In both cases, per Variety, easily 300 million in actual costs not counting marketing)

A JLA movie done "right" would easily cost 250 million. Easily. I mean, if you're looking for a half-assed movie, then yea, 150 would get teh job done. But it would be mediocre.

bay shot transformers for 140

Trust me.....it costs a WHOLE lot more than that. They are at least scraping about 30-40 million off the budget to the public if that's the number.

140 million dollars gets you FF2 type of effects...and ILM isn't cheap. It's the best effect house there is as far as I'm concerned.

dont know where to post this for news and articles..but i thought it'd be a good read bout the budget and effects

Transformers" film yields big bang on fewer bucks

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - They call a $150 million movie low-budget?

"Transformers," based on toy aliens disguised as cars, debuts worldwide next Tuesday as a major Hollywood production that delivers big bangs for fewer bucks than comparable films, its makers say.

It is loaded with the kinds of effects, computer imagery and explosive stunts that in recent years has pushed the price of some movies beyond $200 million and, in the case of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," to $300 million.

But the producers of "Transformers," Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Ian Bryce, say they have spent only $150 million on "Transformers," and they reckon they got a bargain.

Good early reviews and positive advance buzz could mean strong ticket sales for "Transformers" and show the rest of Hollywood that crowd-pleasing action movies can be made at a lower cost which, in turn, might spur more of them.

"We wanted to prove you could make a big movie and not cost what many of those other big movies cost," di Bonaventura said in an interview.

In 1984, Hasbro Inc. launched a set of 21 toys that, when twisted and turned, transformed into alien robots. The toys' mythology told of good aliens called Autobots, led by Optimus Prime, battling evil Decepticons, whose chief was Megatron.

Autobots want to live peacefully, but Decepticons want to destroy Autobots. If humans get in the way, tough luck.

The toys became wildly popular and gained a cult-like following among young men and women who, generally speaking, make up the core audience for major Hollywood action movies.

TRANSFORMING "TRANSFORMERS"

For years, the challenge of making a Transformers film was how to realistically and cost-effectively create 32-foot (9.7-metre) robots that could interact with humans on movie screens.

The increasing use of digital technology and the expertise of the film's makers -- including executive producer Steven Spielberg and director Michael Bay ("Armageddon" and "Pearl Harbor") -- took care of that.

Add low cost, rising young stars Shia LaBeouf and newcomer Megan Fox to the mix and, faster than a studio executive can ask, "How about Johnny Depp or Cameron Diaz?" Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks signed on to make "Transformers."

"We made a decision not to go after the $10 to $20 million people," said di Bonaventura.

The special effects wizards at Industrial Light & Magic wrote new computer software to transform 50-piece plastic models into digital robots with 10,108 moving parts.

Finally, Bay said he shot the live-action sequences quickly and on a tight schedule to bring the movie in on budget.

"Transformers" takes audiences on a wild ride around the world with Decepticons chasing Autobots, who befriend a teen-age boy (LaBeouf) and his love interest (Fox). The U.S. military blows up just about everything in sight to get them all.

"It's 'Transformers' -- you can't take it too seriously," said Bay.

Audiences seem to be responding. Paramount moved up the global release by one day and is holding early screenings in the United States on Monday.

Critics like the film, too. "Michael Bay's actioner hits a new peak for CGI (computer generated images) work, showcasing spectacular chases and animated transformation sequences seamlessly blended into live-action surroundings," wrote Todd McCarthy in show business newspaper "Daily Variety."

the thing is bays movies are often way under budget(the ones that don't spend millions on huge stars but even then so

studio love him cause he yields them the greatest revenue more often than not

it's been said he's a screaming b1tch on set...well it's a dangerous set and no one get's killed even though there are usually hundreds of extras.
plus he doesn't allow for goofying around blooper reel sh1t...
he get's through his daily shoot at an incredible pace..."he shoots fast"

plus unlike the pretty much entire green screen shot superman action (u can tell at times cause unlikes bays contrasty lighting...superman was always soft and artificially lit..(Cept for the farm seen) it was mostly artificial stage lighting....
shooting stuff for real (with hollow car frames out on the street) is always cheeper

the effects house doesn't have to charge u for the character and the bus it rips intwo u know

I love that singer grew a farm and then shot it in the most pointless way...but it was one of his better looking setpieces (At times)

Bay is really close with GM so most(all) of the cars were part of a marketing deal...which is good when unlike say et...this film has cars every 10 or so minutes

:trans:

I do think ILM should get the job next time around..i would love to see what they could do..

Agreed. ILM is still the best. They are like the '96 Chicago Bulls...where as WETA and pretty much everyone else are just the Utah Jazz.

I'll have to watch the movie to see how much work and effects are really in it....

Afterall, Batman Begins cost 150 million, just by judging on the Transformers trailers, I'd say it cost a little more to make the movie than the 150 millon that went into a flick like BB.

I personally believe it's at least 175 or so....especially if they are publically boasting 150 million. (Per, Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura)

I mean, to cost at least 100 million less than Spiderman 3 and STILL look much better in the effects dept (judging by the trailers) than effects-crazy Spidey....comeon. Someone isn't telling the truth.

BB was filled up to the roof with high class actors and Spidey 3 was a final installment in a series, of course did they cost much more to produce than they looked.

TF looks awesome, but like the article says, Bay shoots on a very tight schedule with newcomers in the main roles and Spielberg watching after him (who btw owns ILM, would be weird if he couldn't drop the pricetags on some of the more costly scenes).

I don't know about the story, but the movie looks like everything I would expect in a Superman movie actionwise. Singer is just the wrong guy for the "epic" job. And now he's working with Cruise to redeem himself!???
Didn't he get the memo? Cruise's carrer is dead! To even suggest working with this guy is public suicide. The guy screwed up his career, big time, was fired by his studio for f'n up the BO for the best M:I film of the series and now he's doing indy flicks no one is interested in anyway.
WOW! Looks like Singer really wants to go down! :o

Well, whatever. It can only benefit the future of Superman! :woot:

ILM is good, but people complained about the Hulk's CG and they did that right? There will always be a difference between inorganic(Transformers) and organic skin(Supes). Davy Jones was fantastic, but I doubt most people know what a squid's skin is like to compare.

ILM is fantastic at creating mosters...the HUlk in many sequences was really awsome IMO..but when it comes down to close up shots on living breathing people they stumble a bit

Weta seems better at making the organic come to life via CG with Golem still being one of the best.

ILM does great monster work..lets face it the unsanctioned aliens of the new Star wars movies were fantastic..I am talking about those things at the end of the Clone wars..one was like Rhino bull type thing...one a crazy lizard/crustacean looking thing and the other a giant rat cat kinda thing...plus whatever it was the Obi Won rode around in the Sith was the bomb

plus the Hulk Dogs looked far better then we could have imagined...so in terms of work on

Parasite, or Doomsday, or Brainiack would be the best

If I could reach through the net, I'd shake your hand. This post is the truth.

Lets face it take Genreal Grevious...beef him up make him more of a threat, and less of a strange rouge and you have the composite make up for a fantastic brainiack..esspecaily if you add in more alien organics

There isn't a single good point in your post.
I'm sure that after Transformers everybody will want Bay on board for the Superman sequel. But I remember very well that Bay was one of the most hated directors in this forum. :whatever:
And after the really disappointing Spider-man 3 , I don't think that Raimi should be considered better than Singer.

The truth is that Singer is a triple-A director, he did perfectly his job. He wanted to do a Superman movie very close to the Donner's Superman, and he did it in the right way.
The problem is that the Superman: The movie was made during the seventies and that we are in 2007. For a teen-ager that plays with the Playstation3 or the XBOX360 and watches the anime on tv, Superman: The movie is probably a boring and slow movie. But it is still a very good sh movie. And, infact, SR can be considered boring and slow by the teen-agers, but it is still a hi-quality movie (SR is pure gold comparing it to the garbages of this year).

Nevertheless Singer proved to be a great director with a lot of terrific movies . If he says to do an action-packed sequel, he'll do an amazing action-packed sequel.

P.S. I wouldn't understimate Walkyrie. IMO it is going to be a great movie. The story of "no one is interested" is really stupid. Walkyrie is not a summer blockbuster, it is a political thriller. This genre doens't need any hype. No one was interested in Departed during the 2005. If Walkyrie is good, the people will go to see it.

transformer is totally action-packed, from the beginning till the end. the wow thing will be staying with you after even you have left the cinema. the effect is so good, you'll forget to question on the loopholes of the story.
it isn't just the action, it got the romance, humors and politic too, just at the right amount; nothing too much, nothing too less.

most important, it look freaking real.

unlike singer to touch up on the scenes to make them cinematic beautiful, bay's movie looks REAL.

he let himself go, lol. looks like routh is going to be like toby mcguire and get fat between each film.

what the heck are you talking about?
He's doing the old....I don't like Routh or SR so I'm loking for every reason to flame them....routine.
