The Amazing Spider-Man Marc Webb to return?

I wouldn't go so far as to call it unwatchable, but I agree with all the sentiments that it will severely hurt the first film by not having any followups.

Anyway it will get the sequels, we know that. Question is whether Webb will be directing them, and my prayers are that he will.

Agree

I believe Marc directed action well but the sequel needs more than this one, i hope he directs the sequel
just curious ,are the new Script writers good?

I believe they wrote the scripts for Star Treck and Transformers. Correct me if I am wrong because I am not sure.

James Vanderbilt pretty much wrote the outline for what ASM became, give or take a few things rewritten by Alvin Sargent and Steve Kloves, both of whom probably aren't returning for the sequel. Vanderbilt wrote The Rundown, The Losers, and Zodiac. He's not the worst writer around, but he's not the greatest, either.

The dynamic duo in charge of rewriting Vanderbilt's ASM2 script are Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. They did Star Trek and Mission: Impossible III, but they also have the first two Transformers movies on their resume.

This.

I liked the first transformers movie, so I'm fine with that.

To be fair, the story for the Transformers movies was largely controlled by Michael Bay. He came up with the first drafts of the script for Revenge of the Fallen himself due to the writer's strike, unless I'm mistaken. And their good projects have far outweighed the bad. Transformers Prime is one of the most clever shows on television imo and I very much enjoyed Star Trek. They also wrote People Like Us, which I heard got positive reviews. So on this I'm cautiously optimistic.

Has this been posted on here yet? Apparently, they'll let Webb return to direct TASM 2 but there's a price:

According to a person briefed on discussions about the franchise, Sony wants Webb back for a planned spring 2014 sequel (with $650 million in global box office for the first movie, why wouldn't it?). Maybe more crucially, the director wants to return too.

Fox is considering giving its blessing to Webb on "Spidey" but in exchange would extract a two-picture commitment from Webb. It would be a steep price to pay for the filmmaker — most in-demand directors don’t like locking themselves up that long — but it would free him to return to one of Hollywood's biggest franchises.
If the sides aren't able to come to an agreement, Sony has to move quickly to find a new director: The new "Spider-Man" is set to hit theaters in 21 months.

Don't forget David Goyer, who has a writing credit on all three of the Nolan Batman films also was responsible for Daredevil, Ghost Rider, and Blade Trinity. It really depends on the collaborative effort.

They also did some very nice work on WATCHMEN.

The Star Trek reboot was great. While these writers made the Transformers movies, the director, Michael Bay, had a huge say in how the movie would be. The second movie also suffered from the writers strike, so that is part of why it was so bad.

Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci have a lot of good movies/tv show writing credits such as:

Hercules: The Legendary Journies
Xena: Warrior Princess
Alias
Mission: Impossible: III
Star Trek
Fringe

They didn't do the best job with Cowboys and Aliens or Transformers 1 & 2, but I think they do a good job with what they are given. They have a 1st draft to base their script on, but hopefully they pull another Star Trek and not a Transformers 2.

i know people didn´t like the score by James Horner but i hope they keep him :D

I wouldn't say that people generally dislike his score, its just that it doesn't stand out like Danny Elfman's theme for the Raimi series. To me, that will always be the Spider-Man movie theme.

But I do hope James Horner comes back for the sequel. Unless they get someone who is actually much better and creates a beautiful, memorable theme.

maybe a similar one like they did with Danny Elfman -Christopher Young in SM3

Like it...I love James Horner's score--I was surprised he didn't regurgitate his other scores the way Elfman did. If he doesn't return, I will go to war with Russia. Don't ask why, I just feel like killing. :o

1) The Ganali Device song borrows HEAVILY from his A Beautfiul Mind score.

2) The Briefcase has one section that is ripped straight from Elfman's Spider-Man theme.

Huh?

Never once thought of a Beautiful Mind nor Elfman while listening to the score--and I have half a million times. Such a strange and wondrous score it is.

I actually bought the Horner score, the first time I've bought a score in years. My favorite track is the Uncle Ben death, where the track ends with the police chase. Brilliant.

Also bought the Zimmer score for TDKR

I'm listening to the entire score right now, I can't believe that this music is in a comic book film.

:O

Damn.. that's pretty horrible.. I can't see how anyone could find it unwatchable if there wasn't sequel. :/

You were saying you can't see how anyone would find it unwatchable?

*points down*

because it leaves you feeling unresolved, you don't know what happened to his parents why he didn't transform and you have the whole after credits scene, plus he's still learning at the end of the movie. It's just not a stand alone film.

It'd be like reading a really good Harry Potter book and then all of a sudden JK Rowling stops making them.

Exactly. Now once again I'm not bashing TASM, I loved it, but without a sequel... I will forget about it in time.

I wouldn't go so far as to call it unwatchable, but I agree with all the sentiments that it will severely hurt the first film by not having any followups.

It's getting a sequel, so isn't that moot?

Not necessarily. If the sequel doesn't provide satisfactory answers or resolutions to the various hanging threads then you'd just have the same situation as before but to a greater degree. It depends whether the filmmakers decide to resolve everything in two or stretch some things out to hammer home the trilogy notion.
