March FAN ART Contest - ENTER HERE

OK, I have a question for you fan artists...

Is it just me or has the lack of entries for the last few contests been very low?

Is it the theme this month that seems to be lacking?
Last month's Ghost Rider contest was a low turn out - some really fine pieces, but a low turn out none-the-less...

I'm hoping things pick up - otherwise I'm gonna give thought to breaking up the band!

Thoughts?

I think it's just the timing especially for March. But I have noticed there seem to be less entries than there have been.

Anyway...here is my non-entry...I Know you've all been waiting for it...so with out further ado...

HEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRREEEEE'S TED!

HEHE:woot:

i liked it when there was sponsors and prizes. And when i felt that the voting was more a voting for the person and not the piece.

E,Id hate to see you end the monthly contest.
I for one believe a contributing factor in the contests entries dwindling coincides with fan art forum members disappearing lately.
I wouldnt believe the ammount of entries can be related to an issue like lack of intrest in GR or Heroes-Both widely popular.(I for one was hoping for a Turtles contest,or a 300)((Ive never seen heroes))Also ,Id ask you to consider a few things before deciding the contests fate-While youve had a poor response HERE ,youve had a huge response in the Hyper thread. You might want to think about bringing back smaller prizes to-Isent you a PM a while back with like ten different sites that were giving away Hellboy Animated dvd's,..why isnt your hand in that cookie jar?Theres always movie merch going around like that, tptb distribute it (I assume) to garner some publicity..I dont know how you even begin to go about gettin that stuff, but id look into it

I reacll for Ghost Rider you said "No manips" which may have cut some people out. I think it may be just a lack of interest or ideas in the subject, I've never seen Heroes.

Yes, back in the day... we had prizes... many I provided or came from my personal collection - then later we had a 'sponsor' of sorts who provided prizes. That began to run afoul with many out of country winners and the unwillingness of some vendors (and myself) to ship out of the USA! - sad but true!

The contest WILL continue - I ain't yanking the plug just yet...

I think you should do a forum announcement in community when it starts for a few days that`l get more people seeing it.

Plus i would have entered but i dont know anything about Heroes and i dont like ghost rider haha

Winner pays shipping

First I would like to say this is not my art, clearly, and I am not entering it in the contest. But I do think it is very cool and is very much related in the Heroes theme of the contest.

I commissioned Tim Sale to draw a portriat of me, Artistsean, in his Heroes/Sale style.
Its like I'm a character on Heroes or something.

Here is a picture of it bigger.

It's the themes, for sure. Granted, I was psyched about the 'Heroes' theme, but to even remotely get into it, you have to watch the show.

As for last month, I didn't enter because I know nothing about Ghost Rider beyond what he looks like.

I think the themes are best when they are very broad, because its fun to see what characters will pop up and how people will take the theme and run with it.

Obviously, we're all gonna be doing Spiderman pics later this year, but beyond that I think staying away from book/movie/show-specific themes is a good thing.

Having said that, I personally love this months theme!

Presenting: Thinkaloudplease, DamnHippyHigh, Virgin, Iamnotvision, WannabeBoy, FlyGuy, Nutsashell and the one and only, the great Hiro Nakamura!

About the contests... I was on the last one, but the ·$%ing Picasa spoiled it for me... I love the themes, I love the contest and I would definitely miss them (and you, pals). So, keep working on it!!

This was my lost Ghost Rider, by the way...

E, maybe you'd get more participation out of the contest if you'd give people more recognition. Do you still post winners on the SHH frontpage? I remember when you'd post the winning art on the SHH logo that used to be in the upper left corner of the screen. That would be nice if winners could see their art rotating on the page for that month.

Why not give out forum prizes?

(looks at the size of my avatar) :csad:

They used to have prizes for the fan art contests, but for some reason they stopped.

I think most people just feel the need NOT too unless theres some kind of motivation for it. Some of the really good artists on these forums would rather (and dont think I'm speaking for them personally, these are just my thoughts on the matter) use they're talents for something they really wanna do rather than just for fun. I know the Hype! must have SOME kind of income to keep the website up, and I'm not seeing any "click here to donate to keep the site alive!" links or buttons ;). I dont know, get a spidey candy bar or something.

I think if you guys had some kind of a prize for the contest then you would have a greater turn out.

I think turnout for last 2 has been low because of the theme, I didn't want to enter either because I don't know anything about them

I second this one...if I had a shot at the bigger avatar withOUT getting to 5,000 or whatever the number is, I'd be in every month...

Unfortunately, I can just never seem to win them.

EDIT: I guess that's actually a third...

i agree. im in to ghostrider n all, but i wasnt motivated at all to do somethin for the contest. and this month i was all amp'ed for maybe a 300 or tmnt topic.... im into heroes. but not motivated to get somethin done for this contest. bah...... a prize would be awesome but, i just dont see that working out. you would have to say goodbye to fan voting, and go back to a handfull of voters.

I agree with that aforementioned philosophy....I was going to enter this month's contest, but the theme is something I have no inkling about.

Uriondo, I love the campyness of it, that's a tough act to follow.

Yeah, I always thought that was cool to see some fan-art floating on top of the homepage. It's definitely an incentive to put your best work in.

and this month i was all amp'ed for maybe a 300 or tmnt topic.....
I'm wondering the same thing. They were the obvious choices considering their popularity here.

Thanks, pal. If you see all my works, "campy" is a perfect word for describing them... I´ve loved Dew´s Hiro. Great!
