Homecoming Marisa Tomei Is Aunt May!

I don't see what the problem is, she is 50 years old and is the perfect age to be peters aunt. Yes she is still really hot but so what. I like the casting.

It means we'll be seeing Peter staring at her butt when she bends down in the oven, taking out his his cherry homemade pie...

I think I would've liked Naomi Watts as Aunt May, and then maybe Helen Mirren as Great Aunt May. There would've been a resemblance there.

Reminds me of that one Robot Chicken skit where Spider-Man was found entering his home and was believed to be having a(n) (incestous) relationship with Aunt May.

I don't really see the issue with having a 'younger' looking Aunt May. If Peter is 16, his Mother's age would probably be around 40ish. Assuming his Dad would be a couple of years older than his mother would put him around 45ish. Uncle Ben is a couple of years older than Richard, correct? So, Ben probably married a woman that is around Richard's age which would put May somewhere in the neighborhood of 45ish, maybe 50ish. Based on that, I'd say Tomei is in the ballpark age-wise. Not sure why people have an issue with her being attractive either...people in their 50's can still be good-looking you know.

The whole of the MCU could seem a bit incestuous. Howard Stark has tried it on with Peggy Carter, who was Steve Rogers' long-time love. But now Steve might get with Sharon Cater, the great niece of Peggy. Then there's the whole Brutasha thing, with Widow who has flirted with both Rogers and Stark.

Remember in "Trouble" how Aunt May was really Peter's mother and not his aunt? What if Tony Stark had a fling with Aunt May when they were younger, and Tony is really Peter's father and May is his mother? :o

Back in 2011 at the time of ASM and Sally Field's casting, when I suggested a younger (and even attractive) Aunt May for the next time around, with virtually the same reasoning you've given above, almost everyone was against it and ridiculed the idea. Funny how most people's attitudes seem to have changed now after 4 years, and people seem to be okay with Marisa.

Yeah I really don't get it either. I mean, I understand the whole "You need to be true to the comics!" complaints because that's the reaction with practically any every casting decision nowadays. But some of the hang ups on her looks are starting to get pretty awkward. Makes me wary of what the reaction to the casting of MJ will be.

Does that type of scenario happen in your house too? :p

I see what you did there.

Well, thankfully that "Trouble" story is not considered canon.

I never had an issue with Sally either. My reaction was pretty much the same as it is for Marisa, "She's a great actress."

I think remaining faithful to the comics is a valid point to an extent. There's a reason these characters are so popular and revered in the first place and disregarding the comics when making choices seems a bit disingenious.

To the emboldened...Fanboys are awful and ridiculous. Remember the Shailene bashing that went on?? Such an embarassment to the CB community. I really hope that crap doesn't happen again. Though it probably will.

If somehow Marisa doesn't end up signing, but Marvel and Sony are looking for a Marisa type, then how about Teri Hatcher as Aunt May? They looked quite similar when younger, and she's also 50 years old too.

Unfortunately, Teri is in worse shape than Marisa, as her face looks quite artificial now from surgery, whereas Marisa's looks natural, and somehow Marisa manages to look younger.

This is Teri now:

I guess she would be more of a nod to the elderly look though.

That's a thing? :loco:

Apparently there's a Marisa Tomei skateboard out there:

And also Marisa is very into hoola hooping

And here's Marisa doing some fitness video:

No wonder she's in such great shape.

Sandra Bullock maybe ?

She could work too, or Catherine Zeta Jones. Bullock is probable more relatable though.

Here are some 40 & up hot females in Hollywood

Jennifer Aniston
Kate Beckinsale
Jennifer Garner
Charisma Carpenter

I would add Jennifer Love Hewitt but she is in her late 30s

Jennifer Garner is only 41 though so not much older than Hewitt.

Julia Roberts could've worked. She's 47. Charisma Carpenter is not really big enough. She might be ok for a TV version.

No, the talks won't fall through. When a Trade (Variety especially), reports that an actor is in talks for a role, that pretty much CONFIRMS that they have the role. Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Shailene Woodley, Dane Dehaan, Rhys Ifans and Chris Cooper especially come to mind. And there won't be an announcement from Marvel/Sony themselves, none of the actors I mentioned got announcements.

That's why this thread is called "Marisa Tomei IS Aunt May", because she's pretty much guaranteed to have the role.

She's Aunt May, end of story.

Btw, that was my last post. I'm taking a break for real now.

Wasn't Joaquin Phoenix in talks for Dr Strange though?

Yeah, at one point, but sounds like he wasn't interested. These types of movies aren't really his thing.
