Superman Returns Mark Millar's thoughts on the movie . . .

Ya know......I've noticed ALOT of people get pissed when a comic book professional voices his displeasure with a film.

Ross, a freakin' goddamn gangsta of the industry, totally got raked for what he said about Spider-Man 2 (which I sorta agreed with), and the Superman Returns costume (which I mean, c'mon....everyone freaked out atleast a little with the costume at first).

Tim Sale, an artist for some of the greatest Batman graphic novels in the history of the character (Batman: The Long Halloween, Batman: Dark Victory and he's even done Superman For All Seasons all with Jeph Loeb) and he got totally hammered for saying he liked only "parts" of Batman Begins. I mean, people started saying he was gay after that in some boards. That's freakin' insane that people would crucify these guys on the boards for their opinions.

I mean....maybe nobody should ask for anyone's opinions anymore? Or even type them on theu're own websites?

I'm not saying any of you are being unfair, I'm just saying....alot of people can be when it comes to something as simple as an opinion.

The problem seems to be with opinions that do not hype up SR no matter how civil or well presented, if Mark Millar had salivated over SR this thread would have been filled with rejoicing.

Well, George Perez had a high level of enthusiasm about the film, and he mentioned he had some reservations.

I don't think people were displeased w/Alex's voicing his displeasure so much as telling us what to think "They won't be praising it three years from now."
Express your opinion, but don't disrespect mine.
But then, he told me he didn't even like the first one, & yet he did the opening sequence to the second?

DEFINITELY in the Hulk board! My God- there was so much battling going on, for like 3 years AFTER the movie's release! It's so easy to band together in negativity, than it is to agree- to DISAGREE positively when it comes to these boards...
Have you noticed that of all the movies that have gotten widely lambasted-"Hulk" is the only one that still has a board. DD's board is gone, Elektra, LXG-even V.

Anyway, I pray I'm wrong because I want to love this more than any of you. I'll open a vein if Superman isn't as big as Titanic, but a Superman movie that starts with Krypton, goes to Smallville, has Clark going to the big city, has Superman saving Lois from a crashing plane, has Superman doing a series of rescues, has Luthor stealing Kryptonite, poisoning Superman and then setting off a huge earthquake seems kind of familiar and oddly pointless. It seems like Superman The Movie PLUS A KID.

My thoughts exactly.

the kid may well be this film's saving grace. you'll all see... he's already proven to be a better actor than Jake Lloyd and Hayden christenson, with about one second of time in the trailers. And People love super-powered kids like harry potter and spykids, so Jason's badass piano-throwing mushroom cloud laying, owning badguys, style should definitely capture all of our hearts. :). even yours, millar.

I think that's either because they felt sorry for hulkfans or because it's getting sequel but none of those othere ones are.

That's because they make room for movies that are in production or have sequels in production.

He hated the first movie? Now I know why he did the opening sequence to Spidey 2: money. I'm sure he would done some for SR if WB pay him $10 millions dollars. :p

And you met Alex Ross & he told you those thing, man? It a shame Ross have a big ego problem.

He Said He Liked The Cast But That Was It; He'd Previously Trashed The Costume, Saying That The Raised Webbing Looked "overthought". Some Took This As A Tantrum Over The Rejection Of His Horrid Designs.

I've actually met him a few times, and there is definitely no ego problem with him. He is very approachable, and an all-around cool guy.

He doesn't like the direction Superman Returns is going? Take a look at my sig for some sage advice......

I'm talking about the way when he talk about comic book related movies & other, not meeting the fans.

And of course that his opinions. But sometime it can be criticsm or trying to be realistic, not opinions. But hey, all opinions are like butthole. Alex Ross is one. I don't need your advice, since I already follow some good advices. ;)

Um, I think you need to re-read what you typed.

And you definitely seem like you need some advice, your bashing of a guy based on his opinion proves this.

What I dont understand is if Singer had created another origin movie, this movie would feel exactely like Superman the movie too!! He would tell the Krypton story all over again(), the Smallville story all over again(), Superman first appearence all over again(),etc etc etc..

In other words, Singer knows what he is doing!

Who's Saying That? Even I Said, Years Ago, That There Was No Need To See Krypton Explode Again.

I think there were options other than Origin or this Return *** origin idea that would have been more interesting

iT woulD havE beeN prettY ballsY foR singeR tO dO A branD neW origiN storY....

athougH I thinK thE storY wE knoW oF seemS tO bE fairlY ballsY alreadY.

Superman look ehh. I wasn't impressed by the trailer. I like Supes, but Miller is right. Supes needs to fight someone and save people from diasters. We already seen that in the first movie, and it looks as if singer is rehashing what we've already seen.

I dunno. That might be the challenge in the end. Do people NEED the hero to actually beat someone up? I mean, does the hero really need not just a intellectual challenge.....but a physical one for people to stay involved with the film?

I say no. I think if done right, the film doesn't have to have Superman punch anyone to the moon......but I guess we'll see soon.

Yeah, I guess it goes back to that theory. Fanboys are the best fans to have in your corner, but the worst to have turn on you.

Well, George Perez had a high level of enthusiasm about the film, and he mentioned he had some reservations.

He did? What'd he say?

Well, what I took from Ross' displeasure with the suit was that he didn't like it. It looked different, and we all kinda freaked out too with the suit. I think we all got used to it and our eyes adjusted to it.....so, I'd wonder what he MIGHT feel about it NOW, because honestly.....I feel better about it now than I did before.

I do believe he did not like the second film, don't think he said anything about the first film. However.....even if he did, the man is a professional. I were in his place, no matter how much I didn't like Spidey 1 I'd take the exposure of having my artwork on display like that. He had to have gotten more fans and more buyers for his artwork just from the exposure.

the kid may well be this film's saving grace. you'll all see...

............Sure.................

So you think it an opinion as well when he also said SW fans who love Star Wars Ep. 3 & said it better are lying? Some of his comments are similar to that & it a bad criticsm than opinions. What the hell give him the right to think fans are lying when he didn't like it? He don't know if they are lying, 'cause he can't read their mind like he's Prof. X. Oh yeah, he claim Spider-Man 2 won't be remebered in 3 yrs.

I agree; they could've just dropped us in the middle of his life, in a story w/no ties to the Donner films & no five-year hiatus; kind of along the lines of what Kevin Smith wanted to do. Just a brand-new adventure w/an already established Superman.

My point exactly. When you say things like that, you're telling other people what to think.
