Superman Returns Mark Millar's thoughts on the movie . . .

I don't think people were displeased w/Alex's voicing his displeasure so much as telling us what to think "They won't be praising it three years from now."
Express your opinion, but don't disrespect mine.
Yeah....who does he think he is....a poster at the Superman Returns forum on the SuperheroHype? The nerve of some people.

But then, he told me he didn't even like the first one, & yet he did the opening sequence to the second?
Yeah....instead of working to pay his bills to keep food in the fridge and a roof over his head, he should just live in a cardboard box and scrounge through trashcans for thrown out food......the wimp.

it just goes to show that it's not just people on hype who have the mindset that "mine opinion is right. you should share it and if you don't then you're wrong."

true he needs to work, but it's not as if Alex Ross NEEDED to do the intro for SM2. as big of an artist Alex Ross is, i doubt he'd have trouble finding work so he can put food on the table. and i SERIOUSLY doubt that, at the time, the intro for SM2 was the only job he could find.

Yeah-this Is A Guy Who's Done More Covers For Wizard, Various Comics-he Did A Poster For The Oscars, He's Got Kingdom Come & Marvels Under His Belt. Justice Is Out Now-to Say That He Was Hurting For Work Or That Not Doing Spider-man 2 Would Have Led To Starvation Is Just Ludicrous.

argh....do you have to type like that? haha...it hurts my eyeeezzz!!!!

The point was.....everyone now and then will work a job doing something they don't like....it's life. He can disagree with a movie....but still do work for it....many many people do this all the time.

I wasn't saying this was the ONLY work he could find......but if I had the choice between a couple thousand dollars for a Wizard cover or a couple hundred thousand for doing the opening credits for a movie (even if I wasn't thrilled with the movie)....I would take the movie.

Those scallywags!!!!!

Can you two stop spamming...I want to talk about Mark Millar's damn opinion on the movie. Geez.

C. Lee, your point is valid. Yes, lots of people do jobs they don't particularly like-me included. But if I were in Alex's position, money be damned. I wouldn't want my name associated with a project that I had such a low regard for.
But that's just me.

well that's where money overcomes pride.....if i were well off, money wise, and was sure that i could find other work i wouldn't be doing a project that i didn't care for even if i was offered tons of money for it. i know because i was already in that position...but then again that's just me...

...anyway, small gripe about his artwork from Spider-Man 2....if you look carefully at the intro, the way he painted Spider-Man's eyes are different from the way Spider-Man's eyes are on the actual costume.

My two cents......
I havent seen this movie and very few have. This negative publicity thing always happens before a comic movie comes out. Remember the B&M about X-men????? Remember all the complaints about Spider-man?????
We are saying the same things that was said then....."I dont like this actor", "I dont like the costumes"....do you really need a comic writer to tell you if you should see this movie or not. We all dont like the same things. I will be at the midnight showing of X3 and SR. I support Superhero films and I will let my seeing the film determine if it is good or bad.

That's because he doesn't like the "triangle" eyes. And it doesn't stop there; The symbol is different & by his own admission he "didn't 'truthfully' raise those webs". And the suit's not textured like the movie, either.

wow....that sure shows how idealistic he is. not saying it's a bad thing, but it's something that doesn't sit well in my eyes...

Anyway, I pray I'm wrong because I want to love this more than any of you. I'll open a vein if Superman isn't as big as Titanic, but a Superman movie that starts with Krypton, goes to Smallville, has Clark going to the big city, has Superman saving Lois from a crashing plane, has Superman doing a series of rescues, has Luthor stealing Kryptonite, poisoning Superman and then setting off a huge earthquake seems kind of familiar and oddly pointless. It seems like Superman The Movie PLUS A KID.

My thoughts exactly.

by the same logic Batman Begins was Batman fighting just another quake who wants to gas Gotham...it was Batman with Mrs. Cruise

Well this has gone way off topic but I like to say that I agree with Millar, the same things went through my head as I watched the trailer.

All valid points, but many of the naysayers came out of the two movies you referenced, making the same comments. Some fans can't be placated no matter what.

its amaxing how many people miss the point of a Superman MOVIE. That's right a movie, a film, a 2 hour escape into fun. Tell the truth. If there was no plane scene, or saving scene but just Superman flying and having bullets bounce off hs chest while he deals with the the world and Lois moving on without him would you watch it? I seriously doubt it. What Millar means is that the trailer failed to excite him. Thats fine and dandy. It doesn't work for him. It does excite hundreds of others. Thats fine too. But don't go on about "Superman is about Lois" Because there are dozens of threads about "who should he fight next?" or "why is Lex the villian and not Darkseid or Metallo?" You can't have it both ways people. I wasn't thrilled with the trailer at all. The teaser made me jump with excitement. So I'm still psyched for the movie.

And seeing as how Ross is rather consistent with doing the exact things he critisizes, I am not surprised.

He has been rather vocal about hating when gimmicks are used to sell comics, like all the varient cover crap, and yet, his work is one of the BIGGEST gimmicks used for selling comics ever. How many ross covers are there now??
