Superman Returns Mark Millar's thoughts on the movie . . .

I respect MM but I think he's jumping the gun here... granted I did feel a bit let down when I saw the trailer but deep down I know the movie is going to be great, and I hate to say it, probably better than X3... what one has to remember though is that Singer's love for the character is grounded in the films and not the comics - of course I'm sure he did his research but this is truly a continuation and not a reboot (hence 'Returns' and not 'Begins') - so there should and will be plenty of continuity with the previous superman films and I'm okay with that because anybody can do a reboot (and mind you someday somebody will, probably when i'm 60) but only certain directors are willing to continue a story 25 odd years later... and I'm confused about this superman punching thing - didn't he hit all of the three villans in superman 2? Lastly, I desperately hope that Spacey's performance is evil and not campy - when he first yells out 'wrong!' it sounded evil but now i can't help but think of the typical teenage response from the 90's 'wrong!' - I know it's not what they were going for but I still sort of hear it. In all we just have to wait.

Complaining about the costume, the kid, hell even the acting, I can understand where people are coming from. But there is absolutely NOTHING about this movie that can make anyone say it looks underwhelming.

My god, what the hell have you guys been keeping up with?

Opens with an epic space journey, moves onto a world that has learned to live without a hero, but has become a darker place for it, which leads to our heros growth story now an actually gives us reason to CARE about a guy who is practically invincible, and THEN we really get going with a HUGE 20 MINUTE plane rescue, and we've only JUST gotten to seeing Superman for the first time.

From here we get a glimps at some grand scale rescues, the first confrontation with Luthor at the fortress where Superman is brought to the brink of death, he falls off a cliff, makes his way to the FOS,and then back to Metropolis, were we are treated to a disaste that threatens the ENTIRE WORLD with ripping the ground apart, not just Earthquakes, but sharp jaggs rocks jutting through the ground, a near Titanic type boat ripping in half and sunk, and what ever great finale there is to get rid of NK.

I'm sorry, your right, that Is pretty mild and weak sounding. Hardly enough to even raise my pulse.
Everything that I've seen and heard about the film excites me almost, almost as much as this post.

People have doubts about this movie, but I am sure they will be amazed soon, when June 30th comes.

Oh please. You haven't even seen the movie yet. There is an equal chance of it being a disappointment as there is of being a success.

Amen to that. I told the SM2 fans something very simular when they said it wouldn't get any bad reviews.

I loved SM2 BTW.

Of course you can. Doesn't mean it will be a great movie. That remains to be seen.

Just as other people can say it looks like ****. Don't forget that next time you say "you can't judge based on what we know"

Nah, just here. ;)

I agree with pretty much everything Mark Millar is saying, and the reasons for why he is saying it. I am a huge fan of Superman, but quite frankly I am relatively disappointed with many aspects of what I have read and seen to date regarding Singer's approach.

I think that they could have done a lot more than what they are doing with regard to the action element, and still have kept a great story. I think that having the kid in the film is something that will probably not go over too well with the mainstream populace, and could possibly have a negative impact at the box office.

All in all, we'll have to wait and see, but overall, the first teaser was great, but I was expecting and hoping for something a bit more in the second one with regard to action.

I think this film may do somehting along the lines of Hulk numbers, but to The Hulk's credit, at least he dealt with both the hulk dogs, and Nick Nolte. Superman really doesn't have even that in this film from what we have seen with regard to really unloading on a villain.

This guy wants everything that's wrong with comic-based flicks these days. Non-stop action does not a good movie make.

I just find it amazing that some people make assesments about SR's failure by looking at a trailer when they should be intellegent(I hope they are)enough to know that you can't determine it's success until
one actually see's the film itself.

Anyone with half a brain would know that you can't just look at a preview and tell whether or not it's going to suck.

It's "intelligent", by the way.

:o

I don't see why everyone is harping on Miller, saying he is judging the film already.

All he really said is that he is worried about it. From what he has SEEN, it is painting a picture so far of something that he does not think will suit his tastes.

Now the thing i do NOT get is how he was excited by the teaser, but the new trailer made him worried.

The teaser was a big disapointment in some ways, bbut it did do its job by letting people know what it was, and being a tease.

The trailer was incredible for expanding on that, pumping up with excitment and action, and only giving a taste of the actuall story. Letting you know enough that you wont see the film and go "Where th **** did that come from?" about the story, and also not so much that you know the whole plot before the opening credits.

I cannot see how the trailer did not make some people excited. It was a very well done trailer.

It was very well desiged to grab poeples attention and deffinately make them curious.

actuaclly the trailer did nothing for me it didn't make me want to see the movies the tv spot that just came did a better job

The trailer had the Superman theme.....the TV spot had genetic action music... though I could see how the later would have more of an effect.

Than again, if that was played as the trailer...I guarantee a load of fans would be complaining that the John Williams theme wasnt played.

Yes you can...by using the theme in the trailer and also doing TV spots with the pumping action music...

Doing both, best of both worlds.

^ Haha, ur avvy is funny! Did you make that or is that from some site that features funky fan manips?

It was from here I think. Proof why fans should leave designing Superman's movie costume to the professionals.
