Martin Campbell is Directing Green Lantern

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/40186

Elsewhere, ScreenHub is reporting that THE GREEN LANTERN will shoot in Australia later this year, with the production being split between flooded New South Wales and fire-ravaged Victoria. Seriously, this country is ****ing insane at the moment. Floods and fires. You'd think we'd be able to combine them and cancel out the problem, wouldn't you? Anyway, expect the GL movie to feature Hal Jordan, not just because he's probably the most recognised Lantern, but because a second unit will be shooting the Avalon airshow in March, just outside of Melbourne. If you're attending, please remember to NOT wear yellow. Safety first, people.
whoah they start shooting already? even its just 2nd unit, i'm excited :applaud

So I guess they're going to have cast Hal before filming at the airshow?
Unless
it's the Martin Jordan scene,
or just some plane stuff
well it is just second unit, so chances are its scenery stuff/ establishing shots. and they did say that their sending them this early specifically to capture the airshow.

what i'd like to know is who's heading the second unit. heck first unit doesnt even have a director yet (unless Campbell is as good as lock and they're just not announcing it yet.

Michael Green confirmed that Martin Campbell is in, didn't he?

Yea very likely they would have to have hal cast before official filming starts.

Second-unit isn't only establishing shots and such, most action scenes are shot by second-unit directors in collaboration with the first-unit director. Dan Bradley directed part of the motorcycle pursuit in Indy 4, the armored car sequence in SM-3 and the action in Casino Royale, Peter MacDonald directed the underwater sequences in Harry Potter 4 (and also second-unit for Tim Burton's Batman).

Even the more pivotal action scenes are shot by a second-unit director when the main director focuses on the drama and specifics of the plot.

Hal isn't the most recognized GL right now, its John Stewart.

ummm. i guess if you're going by Justice Leatue the cartoon.

I just like Hal Jordan because he has the right look and the right origins for a movie like this.

I wonder when they'll have their Hal Jordan -- I hope its sometime soon.

2010 is getting more and more crowded. If Warners wants their hopeful 2010 tentpole ready for the summer, they're going to have to act before all the prime spots are taken. I mean, Summit just scheduled the third Twilight film for June 30th, for goodness' sake.

They can still release it alongside The A-Team on June 11th or they can risk a late July release. Or like I said earlier, they can risk a December 2010 release -- Warners can make a killing with HP 7.1 the month before and then GL a month after for an incredible one-two punch at the end of the year.

But they need a big-budget movie for the summer and I imagine Get Smart 2 isn't going to be it.

Which is what I was getting at. What's Hal done since Super Friends? Nothing. Do the public even know the name of the GL in that old show? I doubt most do. The new GL film will make Hal the most recognized GL in the world, until then its Stewart.

Agreed.

I don't think the A-Team will be anything special.

I think WB also has the Book of Eli too for the Summer.

We need a Green Lantern forum... LIKE NOW!
Also, one of you will have to go to Australia and spy on the shooting and take videos and pictures and stuff and post them here...

I'd say Hal and John are matched. Hal was in several cartoons back in the 60's, in "The Batman", in "Justice League: The New Frontier" and it's the most famous GL from the comic books, while John was in "Justice League" and "Justice League Unlimited".

They could probably muscle The Green Hornet out of its June 25th release slot (if The Green Hornet even gets made in the end).

Christ, 2010 and 2011 will have a crap load of films to look forward to!

Fillion for Hal. Book it. Nathan would not ask for a superstar pay.

Cheap post Heroes cancelled Milo for Kyle Rayner.

JLU and JL had John in them more and wider exposure IMO. One appearance on another character's tv show, who's much more fmous then they are, isn't enough to get the public to remember a character.

unfortunately this is true.
of the GP that is aware of what a Green Lantern is, most associate the role with John Stewart. "Green Lantern, the black dude right?" is the most often heard phrase when Green Lantern is brought up.

i'm a fan of both Hal and John, but for a first movie for a franchise i would want them to go with Hal. thank goodness this film was written that way.

unfortunately Nathan said something along the lines of "no". wish i could find that interview, but i'm sure other here who have been following this project as long as i have would attest to this. i do certainly wish that Nathan would change his mind because damn he fits the role of Hal Jordan like a glove. he has the looks, personality, height, EVERYTHING.

Yeah only thing against him is his age. right now, i'm pulling for Duhamel, Evans, or Ackles to take the part.

well, he's got pretty good genetics, despite his age. these are his latest photos from the past two months:

and besides, Hal Jordan is human, and has seen better days by the time the ring comes to him. to me its ok if he doesnt quite look like a young sprite like what Superman or Batman needs to be when they start their tale.

How about Justin Long?

Hal is 28 when he gets the ring, much as I love Nathan he ain't pullin that off.

as Hal Jordan? no.
as Scott Pilgrim i'd cast him in a second.

never doubt the Hollywood prep team. ;)
the fact that they got Bale to look like his teenage self for BB after looking like a dead man means the right combination of make-up, weight training (read: eat dammit!) and costume will make these near 40 something look a whole lot younger, specially if they've got the genetics on their side. Fillion has this. Bale does too. the one thing i notice with these actors is that if they loose too much weight (in the goal of having that zero body fat BS) then they look nearly 10 years more than their age. if they're healthy then they look great.

i aint saying that Fillion is the only choice, but i think he should be given fair shot at this despite his age.

John Stewart is known best to people who have only seen the JL/JLU cartoon, and slightly more than half the non comic book people watching it were going "isn't GL white?" and they didn't even know **** about comics. ;)

Hal Jordan is the most recognized GL because he was GL longer than anyone (34 + years), is the iconic GL, and has had the most appearances in alternate media, going as far back as the sixties all the way up to the new animated movie and appearances on Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Plus he's got the simplest/original/"best" story and is the central GL in the current comics, so I'd say Hal is still the most recognized. :D
