John Stewart is known best to people who have only seen the JL/JLU cartoon, and slightly more than half the non comic book people watching it were going "isn't GL white?" and they didn't even know **** about comics.![]()
Which is why Stewart is more well known. Those people who thought GL was white might be thinking of Kyle Rayner from Superman:TAS or realize the GL from SF was white but they have no idea who Hal is as a character. Hal has nothing on Superman or Batman in getting the audience to recognize who he is.
Hal Jordan is the most recognized GL because he was GL longer than anyone (34 + years), is the iconic GL, and has had the most appearances in alternate media, going as far back as the sixties all the way up to the new animated movie and appearances on Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Plus he's got the simplest/original/"best" story and is the central GL in the current comics, so I'd say Hal is still the most recognized.![]()
I disagree. What you've just said only applies to comic fans, not the general public. Those that do remember Super Friends might remember GL as a white guy who wears a green and makes green constructs but I bet most couldn't tell you who he is. This is the same with Flash. The public know about a the basic costume and power set but have no idea beyond that who the characters are. They probably couldn't tell you the difference between Wally and Barry if you asked them. The only unique thing Hal has that the public would remember is his skin color, while they know who John is. Minor appearances on The Batman and Brave and the Bold isn't enough to make the public care who Hal is. A character either needs to be the star or in the regular supporting cast to make that impression. That's why John has the edge right now. His origin is irrelevant to being iconic. Flash and GL are semi-iconic figures, a rung below WW level, but not the characters who are in the costume.
