Martin Campbell is Directing Green Lantern

...this film is going to be Hal Jordan-centric right? No *major* plot points with Scott, Gardner, Stewart or Rayner.

It will be Hal-centric. Campbell doesn't have much, if any, script input on a lot of his films so there won't be many changes unless the studio interferes.

Yes, the film is about Hal's origin, and there is a rather important cameo from [blackout]Alan Scott[/blackout] There are also cameos from [blackout]Guy Gardner, and Clark Kent[/blackout]

Since its getting a December release, are they pushing back filming to the Summer? At least we could find out who will play Hal soon. It would probably give WB more time to market and hype it up. Don't know how they would do it, but it would be awesome of they had a viral marketing campaign of some type, like with TDK and Watchmen. Maybe some mock ads for Ferris Aircraft?

Like the release date. "Summer blockbuster" is a bankable term, but i think there is definitely some money to be made by dropping big budgets in other seasons since theirs lack of legitimately awesome looking pictures in wide release during winter most times.

That said I think there would be more money in dropping Batman 3 rather than GL but nonetheless as long as the flick looks cool I think it'll find its spot and not necessarily need the crutch of "summer blockbuster"

For some reason, I feel that by releasing it in December, the film will not have the stigma of being a "summer popcorn film". In my weird mind, it makes the film seem more respectable to me, haha.

I still can't believe we are *actually* getting a GREEN LANTERN movie from Martin Campbell!!!

Me neither.

I think the WB moved GL to December, not just because of the crowded summer lineup, but also because Campbell successfully rebooted the Bond franchise during the holiday season too. (CR was released in mid-November, but you get the picture.)

Warners is releasing Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I on November 19th, 2010. That'll be a great platform to get a massive number of people to see the trailer for Green Lantern.

I would be shocked if WB didn't attach a GL trailer to IM2.

Oh yes. Add to the fact that those are both WB releases, both are going to bank hugely off each other -- synergy is going to be a beautiful sign for WB during holiday 2010.

Although I think WB will put the first teaser with IM-2 in May and then the full trailer sometime in the fall. That full trailer will almost definitely be attached to HP 7.1 -- WB'd be foolish not to.

So when do we get a Green Lantern section on SHH?

Soon as Hal is cast and Mirko says OK

Idunno. I cant remember if the rule of thumb was release date or casting anouncement. I think casting announcement since most of Marvel's stuff has had release dates for awhile but no forum yet.

well at least with the release date it gives them enough time. If they do start shooting in the spring or summer I'm pretty sure it will cut down costs if the FX companies are given more time making GL less risky.

Yup. Once that happens, we likely get the OK from the boss mani, and BOOM forum goes up :)

Exciting!

I'm glad its going to be a December release because its fun to see a good action flick over the holidays. It could only be better if they released it Christmas Day.

I think principal photography should start around late spring/early summer, since they are going to start 2nd unit filming next month.

It might be earlier than that if they're doing set construction and final location scouting by now. They have to be close to a casting call at this point.

I believe the article that stated that 2nd unit is filming next month said they were filming principal starting in May

Well, at least there's a cutoff point in terms of cast announcements. Wasn't RDJ announced to play Sherlock Holmes three months before shooting on SH started?

Just trying to get a feeling of when we'll get a coveted cast announcement.

It could be tomorrow or it could be a month from now.

I'd expect it before March ends

Great to hear we finally got release date. And i agree with others with a good film and marketed right and i bet they will after what they did with batman in the dark knight and all that it should be fine. And i think to may/june production of first unit would be likely spot its happening.

Oh, does anyone else feel that Avatar's current position as a December 2009 release also influenced WB's decision to move GL to December 2010?

Not that those flicks have much in common other than the sci-fi genre and using extensive CGI...

it could be a factor who really knows release dates can and most times move around a bit before they make a official end. And for all we know gl could always move up to an earlier release date if the film is done sooner then expected and they have enough time to market/promote it.

What i would love to see is since we know smallville now is getting a 9th season(yah!!!!) if they do some cross promotions and maybe have smallville use a gl and then during second half of the season have them be a place to premiere a trailer/footage like they did with bb and even SR.

WB is now really starting to take DC films seriously. Soon they can say other superheroes besides Superman and Batman can be blockbuster hits.
