Martin Campbell is Directing Green Lantern

That's why my forebears sent 'em to Australia, back in the day.

:D

(I mean that in a totally lighthearted way - no offense meant to any of my Auzzie friends on here)

That wasn't very bright of the poms, now, was it. They find Australia, which is a beautiful country (at least it was back then) and say "Let's leave our convicts here and go back to cold, wet, miserable England."

Good move, fellas. :oldrazz:

Don't get me wrong. I like the English. A lot of the greatest bands ever are from England. You have some of the best actors ever, too. But my favourite bit is the sport. You created all these sports like, football, cricket, tennis and golf and than taught the rest of the world how to beat you. Thanks for that.

A firm "no" to Bloom. Anyone BUT him. Not only is he bland but he's terribly short and not someone I envision playing Hal -- physically.

If Warners can't find a good U.S. actor, then cast someone from the UK or Australia. Bale's from the UK and he did just fine playing Batman. I'm sure there's someone in the UK or Oz that can fit Hal to a "T" if they can't find an American guy.

Sam Worthington is Australian. :yay:

You guys have obviously never watched Band of Brothers.

Listen, I know Alex Rider was ****, but even Bill Nighy was in it. BILL NIGHY!

I watch 'Life' and Damien Lewis is fantastic, if that's who you're talking about. :yay:

What the hell is Alex Rider?

That's who I am talking about, the fantastic Damian Lewis, a highly underrated character actor and performer.

Alex Rider was this young James Bond ripoff that was made in the UK and barely seen in the US. It had a lot of big names in it though including Robbie Coltrane, Bill Nighy, Andy Serkis, Damian Lewis, Alicia Silverstone, and Mickey Rourke as the villain.

Damien Lewis is a talented actor, but he's not right to play Hal Jordan.

Thanks. :woot:

Stormbreaker was awful, but Robbie Coltrane gots to eat.

Bit too old for the approach the studio is taking, he doesn't have the right look for the part, and he'd be a poor pick from a commercial point of view.

Orlando Bloom? Are you kidding me.
I've already said that I don't want Orlando Bloom to get the part, so we're agreed on that.

He at least looks like an actual man instead of the man-boy look. Also, sometimes older and experienced is the better approach for these characters, see Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark.

I mean he's not in his 40's. He can be made up to look slightly younger. Not a big deal IMHO.

Also, commercially a Ryan Gosling type isn't a huge moviestar draw either.

I agree that Damian Lewis isn't right for Hal, but he'd be a great Sinestro.

If Lewis did play Hal, I wouldn't be disappointed because he is a very good actor. I just think that there are others who are more suited to Hal. Lewis can play an awesome villain too.

I want Sam Worthington as Hal. He'd be perfect, imo.

Well it actually counts on what point in the career of the character they are planning on going and from what we know they are doing hal origin and hal was what 24-27 yrs old when he got the ring right? Where as tony stark as iron man appeared as an adult in mid 30s when he started his hero career. So saying going older for an origin hal isnt that right. Yes it would be great if they were going with an older actor, but its all where the character is in his life for the actor choosen. And since we know they are going mid 20s-30s there is tons of decent actors that could be picked for the role. And we know they offered the role to rosling and casey affleck but both decline for their reasons. So we know they are looking for someone like them for the lead.

It was rumored that Casey Affleck was offered the part and turned it down (although I'd take those sorts of rumor with a grain of salt), but I don't think there's been any word of Gosling turning it down, just that he may have been made an offer and there isn't news either way on whether he'll do it.

Their was an article stating both affleck and gosling declined the role.

I don't think there was any article, but elmayimbe (the scooper from latinoreview) posted that both turned it down on his twitter.

ah that must have been the thing i saw but since we know they were looking/offered guys like the role you can see its some of their caliber who wb is likely going to grab for hal.

El Mayimbe is a liar and a shill, so you can't trust anything he says at face value.

Also, the age thing doesn't matter. A role can be changed to work around the actor sometimes.

And you have evidently never watched The Escapist or The Forsythe Saga. Damian Lewis is a great actor, but those familiar with more of his UK output know the guy is a natural born villain. I'd be very happy with him playing Sinestro, and he's my top choice for Loki.

Elsewhere, ScreenHub is reporting that THE GREEN LANTERN will shoot in Australia later this year, with the production being split between flooded New South Wales and fire-ravaged Victoria. Seriously, this country is ****ing insane at the moment. Floods and fires. You'd think we'd be able to combine them and cancel out the problem, wouldn't you? Anyway, expect the GL movie to feature Hal Jordan, not just because he's probably the most recognised Lantern, but because a second unit will be shooting the Avalon airshow in March, just outside of Melbourne. If you're attending, please remember to NOT wear yellow. Safety first, people.

So I guess they're going to have cast Hal before filming at the airshow?
Unless
it's the Martin Jordan scene,
or just some plane stuff
