Why must it always be an "us vs them" mentality? If Marvel gets it right then WB/DC will get it wrong; if WB/DC get it right then Marvel will get it wrong.
Here's a novel thought - they could both get it right. Look at 2008 - two Marvel flicks and one WB/DC flick, and all three got it very, very right.
Absolutely.
But it seems that for the last part of 2008 and currently 2009, Marvel's rushing through things too quickly. IM took over a decade to make it to where it is now: a solid and viable film franchise. Then when Marvel saw dollars rolling in during IM's opening weekend, they rushed to pick the hot summer spots for the rest of their superhero franchises -- most of them without a cast, crew, or script available. (Sure they have stars, directors and writers for several of them now, but I think Marvel is going to shoot themselves in the foot with their rush to get things off running.) Lots of things have hit pre-production of IM-2 in their rush to get it started for May 2010, whereas Warners has produced the ultimate superhero movie and they are justifiably taking their time.
Warners has taken their time with developing these properties (sometimes WAY too long), but at least when WB sets their movie dates they have a director, script and production date set. By the time GL hits screen, it'd have been 3 years in the making since Berlanti and his co-writers pitched it before the WGA strike.
I'm not saying Warners is necessarily the better studio for producing new superhero franchises, but at least TDK isn't encouraging Warners to rush other DC properties out into movies just to make a quick buck. They're really thinking these through.
