Civil War Martin Freeman Cast as Everett Ross

^ They did it with Redford as Pierce as well, didn't they? Not that it would've helped if they'd announced his character's name. Lotsa folks thought he'd turn out to be a reincarnated Red Skull.

Either Reed Richards, Wolverine or Namor.

Mark Millar says that Freeman won't be a super-person or have a costume.

“I know who he’s playing in the film, but I guess it’s still a secret,” Civil War comic book writer (and Kick-Ass creator) Mark Millar told RadioTimes.com.
“The character is not a super-person, it’s somebody who’s… well, I don’t want to spoil it for anybody but he’s not going to be in costume.”

There go our hopes of seeing Freeman as the Green Goblin, Bullseye or Spider-Man, then – though Millar wouldn’t be drawn on any more details of his role.
“Once you get to see it, it’s so obvious,” Millar teased. “All I’ll say is, he’s not the Red Skull.”

At this point im 99% sure it's Ross

Diana Ross?!!? That's some outside the box casting...

Nah, but if he is Everett that could only help the BP film. Between him & Serkis that movies geek cred would be through the roof. :hehe:

Those comments kind of confirm it's a comic character though, and not just a random senator or something

IF Freeman is playing Everett Ross, and then Hurt is coming back as Gen. Thunderbolt Ross, is the MCU gonna make them related? "Ross" isnt unique but then its not as common as Jones or Smith.

So what if he replaced Mrs. Sharpe? I don't think it is super necessary to do, and it would mean he is only used for this one film (most likely), but he could fit the role. I personally thing a female would be better for the role, the difference between a mother and a father is probably key for the things she said and did. After all, I don't think a father yelling at stark would seem as big of a deal as a mother. Men tend to be painted as being quicker to anger and not thinking things through before acting on that anger.

Is it just me or do they kinda look like they could be related??

Bruhl:

Freeman:

Gyrich or a descendent of Union Jack... Or the U.K. PM that gets killed on U.S. soil in a clash between Avengers and super villains.

However... Yeah, I could see Bruhl playing the latest Zemo and Freeman playing the Semo Cap fought in WWII.

Where is the Everett Ross theory coming from?

All I heard is that he's an interrogator of some sort. Is that Ross' thing?

I'm not familiar with Ross, but I think his name just came up because of the Black Panther connection. Personally, I think Gyrich is a much better bet.

I see.

I think it might be a mite confusing to have two unrelated characters with the same last name in the movie.

Also, I love your avatar. What video is it from?

"Insiders" are claiming that it's his role, and Freeman would fit the character really well. I think it's more than likely.

Thanks! I can't find the original video anywhere, I can't remember exactly where it came from. This is the best I could find:
