Marvel Comics Solicitations For August 2007

AVNTRANS002.jpg

Who's in charge over at Marvel??

Oh...right...

That Wolverine is just funny. He's so rotund he's almost cute. He's like a Pillsbury Dough-Wolvie! :D
Don't pick up Origins, dude. It's just not worth it.
But it's WWII Cap and Dillon and all... I'll give the first issue a skim in the shop.
My first thought after reading this was that this may be a veiled reference to Loki....
Uh... why? Loki still probably won't even exist by then.
Where's Might Avengers?
Yeah, I didn't see ASM or She-Hulk solicitations, either. Anything else missing?

When I saw that cover a couple weeks ago, I too was excitied. But now that we know what it's attatched to, I see it's just a ploy to get us to buy crap.

And I did notice that ASM wasn't solicited. Hmm...

...well that's one way to sell a book I guess. :o

SERIES TITLE TO BE ANNOUNCED
Written by MATT FRACTION
Pencils and Cover by BARRY KITSON
A team of long-dormant Soviet super-weapons is awake, angry and heading straight at the heart of Los Angeles ready to finish World War III! The front line of defense is a team that’s been together since just before nine this morning! The queen of PR starts her spin! A dead body hides more than just a murder mystery! AND AND AND -- a super-sex tape! What on earth could justify the use of that many exclamation points? Surely, it could only be the second sensational issue of the yet to be named new ongoing series written by Matt Fraction (IMMORTAL IRON FIST and PUNISHER WAR JOURNAL) and with art by the amazing Barry Kitson
(Legion of Super-Heroes, JLA: Year One).
32 PGS./Rated T+ …$2.99

So what do we think The Champions is going to be renamed? I want to say The LA Champions.

Why is PAD the only one handling Spidey's supporting cast damnit?!

FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #23
Written by PETER DAVID
Pencils by TODD NAUCK
Cover by PAOLO RIVERA
It's the end of an era as Peter David and Todd Nauck wrap up their run with a BLACK IN BLACK tie-in that finally brings J. Jonah Jameson face to face with the man he hates most…Peter Parker!

A few years back, Alex Ross did a drawing of DeVito as Wolverine that was published in Wizard. I'll post it if I can find it.

- So IMMORTAL IRON FIST is doing a tournament? Like every anime series known to mankind? Eh, at least it fits. Still enjoying the book greatly. One of Marvel's best right not.

- HEROES FOR HIRE #13 using a hentai cover for sales? Hey, when you're tumbling down the Top 100 in sales month after month, you'll try anything.

- Wolverine in that Transformers crossover looks terrible. But since when did anyone take a cross-company crossover story seriously? 1994?

- So now Marvel is reduced to solicting an untitled comic because they didn't square the rights to a smaller tabletop RPG company (that sells THE CHAMPIONS as an indie book). I say good for Marvel. They're used to throwing weight around these days so this is a good reality check. One would think they should rethink what to name the team because it has absolutely nothing to do with the Champions, aside for being based in California (but so where, at one time, the West Coast Avengers, Daredevil & Black Widow, Venom, Runaways, and currently the Loners).

Ten bucks says the title gets renamed Defenders.

Even though it has nothing to do with the Defenders, either. Heck, it has even less to do with the Defenders.

Can't they just come up with a new name? Is it really that hard that people who earn 6 figure salaries can't come up with a new name for what is supposed to be yet another Initiative A-List title? Taking on the name of a team implies a connection to it. At least from what we know of NEW WARRIORS, they at least have a connection as Night-Thrasher, or someone in his armor, is with them, and they may be other survivors of said team. But this isn't like that. This is, "oh, all the good names are taken so let's use an old one". It's lazy.

If you name them after CHAMPIONS or DEFENDERS the implication is that it may be preying on whatever fanbases said franchises have, and by just doing an in-name-only you eliminate even that. It's like when Marvel went, "We're making a new OMEGA THE UNKNOWN, that has no connection whatsoever to Omega the Unknown". Then WHAT IS THE GOD DAMNED POINT!? MAKE IT A NEW CHARACTER THEN!!

I mean, Marvel's hardly as self-cannibilizing as DC is these days, but damn, that "House of Ideas" is getting dusty in some patches.

Yeah, Aja really is an amazing artist. I love all the detailed Chinese characters on the cover. Awesome stuff!

You know if this cover holds true, it seriously messes with New Avenger continuity.

OK can someone explain to me what this new Ed Mcguinness Hulk thing is?
Is it a mini?

Immortal Iron Fist and DD are going to rock to high heavens.
