As a person who followed Gen X religiously when it was being published, it saddens me to see just how that group of kids were treated once the comic was cancelled.
Yeah, Generation X was the first new X-Title after I started reading books, heck, it was my first new series period, so I was hooked. I loved all the characters and have a soft spot for them to this day. I hate what's become of them though.
Jubilee - Depowered (although handled pretty well in New Warriors, showing that she is still a hero, powers or no.)
She was awsome in New Warriors, the star of the books in my opinion. I'm glad the writer left her with her equipment at the end of the series and i hope to see her show up again sometime soon. I think I like her better as Wondra than I did as Jubilee.
Penance - Gone and forgotten
She came back during the Loners series (with Darkhawk, Turbo, etc.) but nothing's come of it since then. And that was obviously the Penance shell with someone else inside (obviously not the St. Croix sisters as they were freed) but we never learned who that was.
M - X-Factor and the only one of the kids still around in any real way.
And ironically enough, she was the one character I thought wouldn't do much. I felt her powers were too all over the place and her backstory (M, Monet, M-Plate, Twins, etc) was too convoluted. I figured she'd die away after the series ended.
The Mondo plant clone died. The real Mondo has vanished with the end of the series never to be mentioned again. Techincally, he's still alive and on the depowered list, though it's never been mentioned in the comics themselves.
This is a little odd, but he had a good showing in the New Warriors series as well. I miss the classic missing faced Chamber, but at least he's still a semi-presence here and there.
Both Gaia and Artie are on the depowered list. Leech has been around hit and miss. He was a minor role in Weapon X, then in the 198 stuff, and he was in an arc of Uncanny back prior to Messiah Complex. So he's still around, just in minor cameos.
It's nice to see them bringing Emplate back, but Monet and the Gen Xers should be involved with his return. Just like Xavier should have been involved with the return of his son.
With so much of the 90's returning to Marvel of late I'm hoping for a semi-Generation reunion. The fact that Emplate's returned shows that the series isn't COMPLETELY forgotten at Marvel. Like I said though... if I can get Synch back, I'll be happy. Of course, then I'll be asking for Skin, but let's not kid ourselves here. Dude's not coming back.
