Marvel One-Shots

I think Drew Pearce's recent tweet pretty much confirms that this is a Trevor Slattery One Shot...

mrdrewpearce: Belated happy new year, people. Oh, and #AllHailTheKing

Also, the so called "real Mandarin" rumor perpetuated by Latino Review's El Mayimbe is simply not happening. When asked a couple of months back whether he had heard that particular rumor, this is what he had to say...

mrdrewpearce: I have now. And one thing I know for sure: nobody's going to be apologizing for the Mandarin twist any time soon.

I have been saying for a long time that everything El Mayimbe says should be taken with a huge pile of salt. His reputation as an oracle is vastly exaggerated, and seems based largely on traditional psychic/fortuneteller tactics. In this case: "tell your audience what they want to hear."

Originally teased back in October, Entertainment Weekly has debuted the first images and details on Marvel's upcoming One-Shot All Hail the King, which sees Ben Kingsley reprising his role of Trevor Slattery as seen in Iron Man 3.
The 14-minute short will pick up shortly after the events of Iron Man 3, with Trevor serving time in Seagate prison (a familiar location to Marvel Comics readers) and he's granted his first interview since he's been imprisoned. Scoot McNairy will play the documentarian interviewing Trevor, and the topics they discuss will range from Slattery's early acting career to whether he worries about The Ten Rings potentially targeting him "for making a mockery of their organization."
"Imagine a real terrorist organization whose beliefs were long held and religious for thousands of years, and imagine a drunk, British actor coming along and essentially telling the world that he's the face of your organization," Iron Man 3 and All Hail the King screenwriter Drew Pearce said. "I think they would be right to be quite angry."
Pearce also revealed that the idea for the One-Shot originated from Marvel's The Avengers writer/director Joss Whedon.
"'The Further Adventures of Trevor' was something we had talked about on set all the time, and when we sat down to talk about what the short would be, it was Stephen [Broussard, executive producer of Iron Man 3] and Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and myself and Joss Whedon and Jeremy Latcham [executive producer of The Avengers.] So we kicked around a bunch of ideas and there were loads of them that we liked, and it was actually Joss who at a certain point went like, 'Or you could do the one that has Sir Ben Kingsley in it because you have access to Sir Ben Kingsley.'"
Pearce also mentions that the short could pave the way for future stories in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying: "By the end of the short, there are definitely a lot of exciting other places that are brought up in it that could then go in the Marvel universe. You know, whether that's an Iron Man movie or another one going into Phase Two or Three."
All Hail the King will debut on the DVD and Blu-ray for Thor: The Dark World, which will be available on February 25. Will you be watching the new One-Shot?

It's gotta be one of his plays from Croydon. :oldrazz: "Three and a half stars."

Easter egg: he's in Seagate Prison, off the coast of Georgia. Same one that Luke Cage was experimented on.

I was hoping for more "Inside the Actors Studio" with James Lipton....or at least Will Ferrell as James Lipton.

Kind of reminds me of... the Serpico poster? I dunno, the style looks familiar but I can't place it.

Looking forward to this. Trevor was great fun.

^^ Four posts ahead of ya, T'Challa. :cwink:

It be amazing if Netflix had already collaborated with Marvel Studios to have their chosen Cage be in this.

That would be interesting, if even just a passing glance. Speaking of which, they've been pretty mum about those shows since the announcement; makes me wonder how far along they are in development.

Was looking for a thread on the Kingsley one shot.. I hope this one gives us something good and juicy!

I'm digging the idea that Trevor is anticipating reprisals from the Ten Rings. Maybe Killian wasn't the head honcho he made himself out to be?

I mean come on

"Imagine a real terrorist organization whose beliefs were long held and religious for thousands of years, and imagine a drunk, British actor coming along and essentially telling the world that he's the face of your organization," Iron Man 3 and All Hail the King screenwriter Drew Pearce said. I myself quite liked IM3 and the Mandarin Twist but if that quote isn't setting up a potential future appearance by the real MCU Mandarin then I will be very surprised. Judging by thet quote Killian clearly didn't make up his entire shtick from nothing. If he based the Mandarin off a real legend we could very well see that explored in the future.

People have been mocked for suggesting that very thing on these boards but it doesn't feel so unlikely to me at this point. The serialization of these films is a very real thing and the idea that they could spend an entire film on misdirection is not as implausible as it once was.
