There you go buddy, fixed it for you
There was no Mandarin in Iron Man 3, according to Iron Man 3.
It does seem like a retcon. The Ten Rings were wiped out .
Because this story doesn't disregard anything from IM3, it compliments it. Let me ask you, what was the Ten Ring's response to having their existence thrown out into mainstream media and their leader turned into a mockery?
As far as anyone was concerned until now, the Ten Rings had been wiped out as per the Iron Man 2 prequel comic. So it wasn't really an issue at all.
I haven't seen this yet, and I'm not sure when I will, but I get the feeling that "The Mandarin" is like the "Dread Pirate Roberts" of the MCU, if that makes sense. It's all just a symbolic title anyway.
The Ten Rings were not in Iron Man 3

I didn't read the comic, but that's good to know. I'm not really sure how accurate the prequel comics are to movie canon but I doubt they'd dig themselves into a hole. In actuality, as the One-Shot states, the Ten Rings were dormant until their name was thrown into the spotlight because of Killian/Trevor. This AHTK focuses on their response to what happened in IM3 and opens the door to a resolution/continuation of their story.
The prequel comics are in continuity, I don't see how they couldn't be. Plus we see the ten rings in IM1, but they were supposedly inactive until the one shot? It's a retcon. This one was done very well, and didn't change anything important. Good stuff.
lolStick a fork in Mandarin, he's done.
They backpeddled and retconned the existance of a "real" version so defenders of the screwjob could have a leg to stand on in their online arguments butothing will come of it in the movies, maybe TV though.
Well they advertised Kinglsey as the Mandarin and that was a big lie, then they cemented Killian as The Mandarin with the dialogue that explicitly states he's the Mandarin, now that is a big lie.
Audiences have every right to be confused when they're getting dicked around.
No, they were dormant for an unspecified amount of time. Could be five years. Could be less. They didn't imply they were dormant for centuries.
And, no, it's not a retcon. The one-shot does not retroactively change anything already established
I don't think he's said anything since that one comment, has he? And that was just about how he wished he had more to do than play a zombieThat would be great. I hope he doesn't just disappear from the MCU. I doubt Feige is happy with all of Renner's commentary
Good call on the dormant, but the Ten Rings were shown to be run by Raza,
Killian claims to have created and to be the Mandarin.
Something the Ten Rings were powerless or uninterested in dealing with during IM3.
We thought we knew the story of Mandarin and the Ten Rings and all of a sudden we didn't.
Before they wrote AHTK there was no "the real Mandarin" in the MCU.
That's a retcon
I don't know if what I'm about to type has been said but it keeps going back and forth its hard to keep up with the comments. We did not see the 10 rings in Iron Man 3. AIM, or more specifically Killian used it as a cover for what he was doing. His think tank took the idea because the 10 rings themselves had been dormant for a while. How much of the 10 rings was actually active pre-IM2 we don't know but some of it was, obviously due to his kidnap. The real 10 rings has emerged back onto the scene after IM3 and obviously they're not very happy they've been messed with.
However I do get the feeling that Trevor is somehow linked with the mandarin whether he is a spirit, AI, or the rings have sent some sort of manifestation of the actual mandarin into him. Some of his lines are eerily dark or repeated.
I might be wrong with a lot of that, but to me that's what it looks like it coming from the MCU currently.
