Marvel should make a "Runaways" Movie.

It's only 6 issues and it takes me less than hour to read it all so I figure that translates perfectly fine. Plus if you read 6 issues together it's really one big story as opposed to little stories making up an arc. The issues are not self contained like The Runaways. I mean there are issues of Daredevil and Captain America I'd read where there's nothing but character and story development. No overall story to describe that single issue. It's just another piece of the big arc. I don't think people would tune in for episodes where Nick Fury and Captain America sit at a table and talk about the situation for an hour.

Well... if it were written REALLY GOOD!!!!

But yeah, I don't read grown-folks books, so I guess I just don't know. That sounds fine by me.

I figured they were told in 6 issues because the stories were too long. I mean would we really want an hour of Matt's girlfriend complaining about him being Daredevil? Or Steve and Sharon going for a walk? Not every issue is action packed.
No, because there are plenty of boring comics that have a begining a middle and an ending all in one book. I don't like those. There are TV shows that do the same thing. I don't like those either. There are comics that tell a story in 6 or 12 or whatever issues. I like those. There are TV shows that do that also. I like those too.

I'd much rather have an huge over all story arc that continues throughout the season than a bunch of individualy contained episodes.

Do really want an hour of Matt's girlfriend complaining that he's Daredevil? No more than I'd want an hour of Daredevil fighting bad guys.

This is my point though. Throughout Bendis' entire run there was one huge arc. The 6 issue arcs in that large arc would make for great episodes. What I'm proposing is an entire season based on Bendis' run or an entire season based on Miller's run and so on and so forth. Same with Captain America. Brubaker has one big story arc going and the 6 issue arcs in it are pretty self contained.

This does not work with Runaways who work on a smaller scale. Each issue is self contained and adds to the overall 6 or 12 issue arc. Then once that arc is done they jump to something COMPLETELY new. With a character liike Daredevil or Captain America it takes 6 issues to take care of the current threat but the real brains behind it is saved for later. Runaways gets this all done in like...6 or 12 issues. The Gibborim showed up in like the first 12 issues and that was it for their arc.

So while The Runaways would have to stretch 12 issues into an entire season, Daredevil and Captain America can really do 6 issues in one episode and still pertain to a larger plot.

I thought they'd be stretching 18 issues into an entire season...

That said, the idea of having an Author's entire run as a season sounds extremely EXTREMELY cool.

Well I guess that depends on what hardcover we're looking at.

The way I always saw a lot of comics (Daredevil, Captain America, The Punisher, Astonishing X-men) is that each issue was that 7 or 8 minutes before a commercial break. You can especially see the similarities when you look at Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-men and then compare it to one of his tv projects like Buffy, Angel, or Firefly. It's hard to summarize those 7 or 8 minutes much in the same way it's hard to summarize that single issue or even call that single issue or those few minutes a complete story. It's just another piece of the larger episode/story.

So basically I need to read some comics that AREN'T about teenagers? Okay...

But as for Runaways, it's an 18 issue maxiseries that ends with Alex dying, then 18 issues of ongoing until Gert dies, I imagine something notable will happen in issue 36 to represent and 'end of season' type effect.

Pretty much. :p

And yeah, I've read the firt 2 hardcovers. I still have to borrow the third one from a friend of mine. He's crazy about that stuff. Alex comes back though I hear so I'm pretty excited to read about that. :woot: I don't care that he was a prick, I totally dug that character.

He sure does... but he's not a big player yet, so don't get too excited. But it's pretty clear he's "on the come up" as they say.
