Deadline:
EXCLUSIVE:Though all the focus has been on casting of The First Avenger:Captain America, Marvel Studios is also gearing up another priority property, The Runaways. Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist director Peter Sollett is negotiating to direct the youth oriented film that is being called The Breakfast Club with superheroes. The film will be distributed under Marvel's pre-Disney deal with Paramount Pictures. WME reps Sollett.
The Playlist is stating that Joss Whendon, who has recently been linked to Marvel Studio's The Avengers live-action film, is also in negotiations to direct the comic adaptation.

One of the best series Marvel has ever produced. I really think a television series would do it more justice, but I would be pumped to see a movie about the Runaways.

I'm soo glad to see this moving forward. It's exciting to see that Marvel Studios is working on some non-Avengers stuff, too.

I can't believe they're going to attempt this for real.

I wonder how they'll be able to portray Lucy in the Sky?

i loved y the last man and currently reading and loving ex machina is this a good pick up from an avid BKV Reader?

I dont think it'll be too hard... we've gotten to see the Human Torch, Silver Surfer and the Hulk on film, I dont think she should be too hard to do...

And I'm assuming that Chris Evans will be given a cameo (similar to RDJ's cameo in TIH), as Cap made an appearance near the end of the series' first run.

Looks like it's going to be Sollett, according to Deadline.

A girl who turns into a rainbow might look especially cheesy in live action.

I doubt this will openly cross with the larger MU. Isn't Molly a mutant? I think Fox still owns the rights to that term.

Probably be a video game reference to Hulk/Cap like in the original issues.

Very good, and you can get just about the entire run in digest trades for like $7 each.

**** those c***s at Fox! Marvel can use the term whenever they damn well please. :cmad:.....................:csad:

Shoot, even if Marvel had the rights, I'm sure Fox would sue them anyway, because that's what they do best. :o

definitely looking forward to hearing more about this. been looking forward to this for a while. we'll have to wait and see how things develop for sure. but who do you guys think should direct the movie? and i can see the side of the things, where it would be better as a tv show.

Casting ideas then? Here are some pics of the main characters, for those unfamiliar...

unknowns for every one of the runaways in the flick imo
thatd be the best way to do it... get bigger names to be the parents.

Runaways hasn't been that great lately, really the decline started with Whedon, so I don't know how I feel about him directing the movie. Like someone up thread said, this concept would probably work better for a television series.

Breakfast Club with superheroes? Waaahh.....

Never read this series, but glad to hear Marvel is expanding it movie universe. Which villains are the kids parents? Some visually good ones, I hope!

i'd rather see him direct avengers since he has a knack for the dynamic of many main characters (firefly/serenity/buffy/angel etc),
im down for the Nick and Norah guy doing it though =) i rly dug N&N, i wouldnt mind if whedon wrote it (but i dug his stuff on the comic though so im biased)

Noted. In my opinion, though, I'd go reverse, and get semi established actors for the kids. With such young characters, you want to have performances that you'll know are solid.

And with that...
Alex Wilder- no idea
Chase Stein- Laim Hemsworth, but I have no idea as to his acting ability. That's only if he can deliver the performance
Gertrude Yorkes- Maybe a little old, and doesn't look too much like her, but Emma Stone could nail the performance
Carolina Dean- Maybe Blake Lively?
Molly- Chloe Moretz, although she may be too old by filming (same goes for everyone here)
Nico Minoru-no idea on this one either
Victor I don't really see appearing anyway, but I don't have a suggestion

If the film makes it to development, which it probably will butcha neva know, i hope hey expand on how the pride operates, independently of one another. Like seeing the Wilder's run the organized crime in California, the Yorks doing what ever they do and so forth. Also, i love the director mentioned, Peter Sollet, i liked the look nick and nora had to it, i actually thought this guy would've made a good director for the spiderman reboot, i just hope they cut down on the pop culture references when talking, got a little hard to follow (although i hope they keep that james dean quote at the end)

I am really excited for this. I remember when I first read the series, it felt like an awesome movie or tv show. The character are very likable, and there are plenty of plot twists. If done right, this could be fantastic.

Avery Brooks (Deep Space 9) would have been perfect for Geoffrey Wilder, but he is like over 60 years old now, I think. Now I am thinking Chiwetel Ejiofor. I know he gets thrown around A LOT on these boards (Black Panther, Luke Cage, Black Lightning, Aunt May, etc.), but I could see him taking some of the best aspects of his Serenity performance and combining them with his performance in Four Brothers and being one bad ass leader of the Pride.
